My husband designed a tattoo for our daughter for her birthday and we took her here. They were able to tweak the design keeping the integrity of his sentiment in the design. It was her first tattoo and she was extremely nervous so we went in and Kelly was amazing. Had my nose pierced twice here (It rejected both times, my body just can't handle it) but the guy who did my piercing was super nice!!! Very experienced and knowledgeable. I can't talk about there art work cause I have never received one...but I can talk about there professionalism...the worst I have been around ...you ask Jeff to call you when he arrived wondering where is the drawing for my tatt ..no call back...so I call up at appointment time...and he says oh I was slammed up..Really ? Got a double helix piercing here almost two years ago, and they never healed. I was assured the metal was high quality and Matt told me if there were any issues to call or come back and he would help me. Despite my diligence with cleaning and protecting them, my piercings were pretty angry and were almost always irritated (pain, burning, bleeding, bumps) for the duration of having these studs. When I called the shop to talk to Matt about my concerns with healing he was condescending and brushed me off twice, saying I must not be cleaning them correctly (I'm a nurse). It finally clicked that it could be the metal that was causing my issues. With that, I went to a different shop and had them exchanged for titanium hoops. Sure enough, the original stud metal was cloudy and the studs were externally threaded. Since changing them to titanium hoops I haven't had any pain or issues since and they're well on their way to being healed. So let me start off by saying I have been wanting a new tattoo for years but I didn't know exactly what I wanted. While I was on the search for my tattoo I would ask different people about who they had their tattoos done by. So I found what I wanted... it combines my love of dragonflies with my love of the Grateful Dead. So I went to a tattoo parlor that had been recommended to me-- I spoke with someone who, when I showed him what I wanted, told me it was not feasible and ...when I asked about getting an old tattoo fixed said - it would be like trying to fix a "turd". Needless to say I left heartbroken. Fast forward a few weeks- I spoke to my friend Amber about the tattoo she was getting done and who was doing it. She told me Todd Howell at Gearhead. So I went over there to talk to him. When I told him that I knew what I really wanted but was told it was not feasible- he asked to see the pic. He told me it was totally do able. My heart soared. So I saw him for the first time and was amazed at what he did and then today he completed it. It is everything I hoped it would be and more. Todd is an amazing tattoo artist- kind, gentle and funny. Please be careful getting a nose piercing there. The gauge is too small - Mat pierced my friend and I and it has gone inside my nose twice. I talked to other piercers who only use 18 gauge for that reason. Now I have to order new rings that are the correct side because Mat did not use the right gage. I will go to Howl from now on. . . I first came across Gearhead at their old location where I was lucky to meet & have a tat done by Kelly. That was almost 10/11 years ago! I still get compliments on how great it looks. I recently decided to get my nipples pierced & I knew there was going to be no where better to go than back to Gearhead! This is by far the greatest tattoo shop around. The most friendly and professional shop ever. There not there to make a quick buck, they genuinely want to create a tattoo you will love and enjoy for the rest of your life. I have been to dozens of shops before and you will NEVER find another one like this. Kelly is by far one of the best portrait artists in the world. I can't go anywhere without someone staring at the work he has done for me. I know many people that would travel across the US just to get the quality work he provides. I have had family members travel from Massachusetts just to get work done there after seeing the quality of work they do. I can't imagine ever getting a tattoo from another shop.
