Eric was upfront, honest, willing and able to help me with a touch up of a previous tattoo that I had received elsewhere. I met with him for a consultation for about an hour we went over everything had some small talk as well. I came back about three weeks later  and after discussing everything we wanted to do and what he recommended, I couldn't be happier with his added work to my previous work. Eric just did a piece on the top of my foot. He and his wife were very nice and professional. The shop is clean and has a cool modern vibe. Eric has been doing American Traditional/Sailor Jerry style for over 20 years and is very good at what he does. I especially liked the good chain of communication between us when I was setting up the appointment. Wow.I saw a gorgeous tattoo on a server while visiting a relative in DC, and she told me she had gotten it done at Globe Electric... she explained the artists' history at Jinx Proof, and I checked out both shops' Instagram profiles to see if the work was what I was looking for for my upcoming tattoo. I also checked out Globe Electric here on Yelp, and saw no mention of the "appointment only" specification at the time (looks like it's been changed now).My sister and I went to Globe Electric as our 2nd stop on our tattoo shop-selection trip.  They have a storefront.  With a sign.  Take note.  Susan/Eric & guests were visible inside, we knocked.   Susan cracked the door and stuck her head out, asked my sister if she "could help her."  When I responded I was interested in a tattoo consultation, Susan continued to respond, looking only at my sister, and said, still through the crack in the door, that they were "appointment-only," and that we could go on the website, submit a request, and they would let us know what was available." Then she passed my sister a business card through the crack in the door and shut the door in her face.  She went back to chatting and hanging out inside the storefront with Eric/friends.  I did go on the website, and ask what gives with the rudeness and why bother having a storefront if you don't want customers to patronize it, and of course, in keeping with their stellar customer service, I got no response.  At least I saved myself the trouble of getting a tattoo from a place with such bad energy. I got my first 2 pieces from Eric over at Jinx Proof in Georgetown. When I went in for a third at Globe Electric I was pretty stunned by the shop. It looks and feels more like a massage therapy studio or doctor's office. Eric explained they were the first tenants for the space and he wanted it to be relaxing and minimal, not covered in knick-knacks like basically every other shop I've been to. The idea worked. Globe Electric is unlike any other shop out there. Veterans looking for Eric and Susan's quality won't be disappointed in the extra mile they went to customize the shop, and people brand new to ink will feel welcome and treated professionally. a few years ago i had a dream that i got a fuckyounicorn tattooed on me, and i was inspired. i had finally found my spirit animal.my bff works with eric and told him about it in passing (because lbh it's funny!), and he said "i'll do it!!!!" if he hadn't expressed interest i never would have given it serious consideration, but he was jazzed about the idea and it was my birthday month, so i said why not. i sent him some examples of what started the whole idea, and he presented me with a sketch. i wanted more rainbows (duh) and he made it happen. it was perfect on the second draft. we decided my inner ankle was the place.toward the end of that first session he said to me "so i'm thinking we'll add some stars and a planet, and the planet will have a sign that says 'all y'all' or something like, and this fuckyounicorn will be in space flicking off the whole universe. what do you think?"i was floored. it was a brilliant idea and so far up my alley that i was annoyed that i didn't think of it first. that afternoon we scheduled another appointment and we have been thinking, corresponding, and working on my "space leg" ever since. that moment of imagination and insight on eric's part yielded a huge brainstorm on my part, as well as a level of excitement and anticipation that i thought was long gone. i found my whimsy again and i credit eric's commitment to the craft and his sympathetic nature; in one session a silly joke tattoo evolved into an excellent, hilarious, and beautiful project which i am exceedingly proud of.today was the 7th(?) time i've sat with eric and it finally dawned on me to establish a standing appointment with him to get this sleeve really rolling. (follow through is not my strength)i can't wait for susan to do a bunch of large areola-having mermaids on my other leg. i very much want susan to work on me, but one thing at a time. (soon, susan. soon.)i very much appreciate these two and count myself lucky to be their friend. they are the epitome of professional while also being simply lovely people.regarding the actual globe electric space, it's subtly beautiful. white with gray accents, smaller framed pieces, lots of wood, clean spacious bathroom (i need space!), several plants and the occasional candle, solid and diverse music playing, and water and gummy bears!!really excellent people who created their own excellent space. get into it, you guys. This was by far my best tattoo experience by far. Eric was awesome! Very attentive to what I wanted and needed.  He is very professional and the shop is immaculate and tranquil.  It is not your average shop with people coming in and out, the artist constantly being interrupted, or having to tend the front desk dealing with other customers. It was a one on one experience for the whole duration of my session (about 4 hrs total).I was going to DC on vacation, sent him my idea and reference material and everything was set up months prior to my appointment. Eric sent me a drawing that was perfect, right on schedule when he said I would receive it.  I couldn't of asked for a better tatt. I got tattooed by Eric a few weeks ago and it was such an amazing experience. Globe electric is a welcoming, professional, and creative atmosphere. For my consultation I was explaining to Eric I wanted a shark snake hybrid as a cover up tattoo. Before meeting Eric....I thought this idea would be impossible because I wanted to cover up thick black lettering. After talking with Eric he was eager and excited about my shark snake idea and gave me so many different options of how to cover it up!!! In the past I was told I would need to get my tattooed lasered off.... but Eric gave me so many options and ideas for my tattoo. A few weeks later I came in to get my tattoo and when he showed my the drawing I was speechless!!!!! It was better than I could have imagined!! Personally the tattoo was a bit big for me and I was nervous to say that I wanted it smaller... but once I asked if he could make it smaller he was so understanding!!! He was saying he just wanted me to be happy and enjoy my tattoo! His response and compassion made me feel very comfortable. After he resized my tattoo he explained everything that he was doing and was very cautious about following the correct tattoo procedure. I've gotten tattooed before and always sat in a chair.... but at globe electric they had me positioned laying down with a pillow..... I was so comfortable!!! Getting tattooed by Eric was a great experience, I felt comfortable the whole time and had such a great time talking with him and getting to know him. His wife also works there too and she was very friendly as well!!! Globe electric is filled with beautiful artwork and just a really comfortable atmosphere. Globe Electric has set up a tattoo shop, that every other shop should want to be like.  They have meshed all of the best aspects of a typical shop into Globe Electric. First off, Eric and Susan and insanely talented. I've sat with Eric getting tattooed for 12 hours now and I love how amazing my tattoos look! The customer service and personal attention is like what you would expect from a high end concierge. The fact that it's coming from a tattoo shop is a game changer. It's appointment only so when you're there, the focus is on you. There is no phone ringing and there aren't people walking in asking questions. It's just you and your artist in a clean, quite, focused environment. Such an upgrade over the "typical" shop. Lastly, Eric and Susan are awesome people. Going local this time backfired hard. I had a consultation with Eric and he assured me, by showing me communication with another client, that we could work on the sketch of my tattoo prior to my appointment date. I was under the impression we could work on the sketch over time.I asked to see something related to my tattoo before a trip (not a very flexible/traveler-friendly business) as noted in the artist response below. That way I did not have to worry about rushing through the appointment or getting charged more (my deposit was $400 and what I take is that the rate is $200 an hour). Eric responded by canceling my appointment an issuing a refund without my asking :( I waited nearly six plus weeks to see some kind of work.  I was under the impression this could be worked over time. The e-mail below states we were to do the project on the 10th of Nov and I felt rushed to decide on what I want inked on my body. If the on average, as stated in the response below is 3-5 days, I was nearly receiving 48 hours. That was unacceptable."Hi X,If we end up doing the tattoo on November 10, you can expect to see a drawing on or around November 8. If someone cancels before then, that will change. Typically, you will receive a sketch on my days off (M,T,W) prior to your appointment.Take care,Eric"Needless to say, super disappointed. First and foremost the artists here are exceptional. I was fortunate to have Susan install my first five tattoos, one of which is a half sleeve, when she was at Jinx Proof. Additionally Eric tattooed a half sleeve on a close friend of mine. We both love our work. I echo other comments that highlight Susan's and Eric's willingness to work with you on smaller details to bring your idea to life. My artistic abilities max out at stick figures, but with my rough outline and a few notes, Susan generated work that exceeded my every expectation; some variation of "this looks even better than I imagined" is likely uttered by every one of their customers. In addition to being fantastic and seasoned artists (20+ years each), these two are genuinely friendly, courteous, and funny people who strive to make your experience both memorable and pleasant.As for the shop itself, Globe Electric is a gem. "By Appointment Only" eliminates what can become a constant flow of clients (and their five closest and loudest friends) milling about while you're trying to relax and hold still. Having experienced both settings at several different shops, Globe Electric is my preference. Two artists, two chairs, and space for a guest artist. The art is understated and the tiling reminds me of the Paris Metro. Much like their tattooing, Eric and Susan paid attention to every detail when they designed their shop. Eric's been doing my work for about the last six years at Jinx Proof and recently he and his wife Susan opened their own shop with Globe Electric. Eric's a great artist and after more than 30-40 hours in the chair he's become a friend. His work is excellent and his prices are fair. From day one he came up with great artwork to cover some old pieces I had. We'd communicate over email and he was always on time incorporating what we discussed. The person doing them needs to be more than proficient- they need to be an expert, and that is all the reason to come Globe Electric.Susan and Eric have over 20 years of tattooing experience each. They also do extensive consultations, and will tweak tattoo concepts until you are 100% satisfied with the concept before you make is permanent. Eric worked with my partners concept for over a month before finalizing it, and made sure every detail was perfect during the process. From seeing much of their finished work they are obvious experts, and their tattoos follow body contours, are shaped symmetrically, balanced, and well placed. Due to their expertise and experience tattoos are appointment only. This also ensures that all clients are given uninterrupted and exclusive treatment during their consultation and tattoo session. This is so important because I cannot tell you how many tattoo shops I have been in where the artist has to stop what they are doing to attend to another customer or talk to an scheduler. This is not just annoying, but it is also rude, so instating a policy so ensure that does not happen bodes well with me. Aside from that their tattoos are awesome, what is just as awesome is that their shop is immaculate, and extremely clean. A tattoo is essentially a controlled wound while its being worked on, so it is imperative that you are not operating out of a petri dish. This shop is beautiful, and is so spotless it would make Mr. Clean smile. This is so important to me as the perpetual and unrelenting germophobe is am, so they get huge points here.We all know tattoos are permanent unless you want to go through the pain of the laser which I can say from personal experience is no joke.
