I made a great choice by coming here to get my Septum Pierced. Although there was a waiting list to get pierced, it went by fast (only 3 people ahead of me).I dealt with Matt and asked him questions about the type of piercings and cuts he had, he was very informative and helpful. Everyone has their own opinion of people they deal with, and personally, I have nothing bad to say about Matt. He's helpful, straightforward and with a sense of humor! What more could you ask for?For people that would like to know the pain level, it was a 2 or maybe a 4 if you really can't take pain. What ended up hurting a bit or maybe more of a discomfort was the clamp used to hold your nose in the right place without moving to be able to put the needle through but nothing you can't handle so don't worry!Would totally choose Embassy to get same piercing done all over again if I had to or any other piercings. Tuesday's are $20 for all piercings unless you want a specific type of jewelry. I paid $40 because the hoop I chose was gold plated. I went in on their $20 Tuesdays and got my rook pierced. I kinda just went in on a whim and was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and the friendliness of the staff. It was also a quick wait time and I didn't make an appointment. I was pleasantly surprised that it actually costed a flat 20! They accept cash and credit cards. Came in on a Tuesday night to get my conch pierced by Matt. The $20 special is a steel (haha get it), but be sure to come in early and beat the long line. I walked in at around 8:30pm and waited almost two hours for my piercing, which took about two minutes in the back room. They technically close at 10pm, so I thought it was nice of them to stay late and accommodate everybody.The lady up front with the blue hair is really patient and sweet, and Matt and his assistant were also super nice.Matt cleaned my ear first with alcohol, then checked for veins with his phone flashlight. After he found a good spot that wouldn't bleed everywhere, he inserted the needle and jewelry in one go, screwed on the ball, and sent me back up front. Easy peasy. Very efficient, not a whole lot of talking. Fine by me, since I don't need the whole CIA briefing session each time I get a pokey pokey. They don't have much jewelry selection, and piercing is also walk-in only. I don't think they carry yellow gold or anodized titanium starter jewelry, I believe they only pierce with stainless steel. The jewelry I was given is externally threaded, which is a little disappointing but again, fine by me given the price.The place is pretty clean, jewelry is pre-sterilized in individual wrappings like tools at the dentist's office, the floor is swept, and the air smells nice. The phone flashlight was a bit of a dealbreaker, though. The lady up front was sterilizing jewelry to sell, but I didn't see the process itself. I did notice that she would come back very quickly and without gloves... so I'm a little dubious. All in all, pretty solid experience for $20 (3% more with card). It's nothing fancy; I wouldn't go here for an industrial or genital piercings. But for the price, it can't be beat. Read Less

I came across Embassy through yahoo search engine and wanted Fernando to do my tattoo after seeing his tattoo art online. I finally made an appointment to meet with him. He thought itd be best if I worked with the new artist Nikko. I spoke with Nikko about my concept and he told me he could do it. I saw his realism style art and thought he'd be the right fit for my tattoo. He told me to come a week later to see his drawing of my tattoo before we started. I paid the deposit and I drove 20 miles the following week to see the results and it wasnt prepared and his attitude seemed very nonchalant and disinterested. He told me to come back the next week and he'd have it done...the next week i decided to call before i arrived to remind him so that the work can be prepared- he said he booked a client the same time that him and I were scheduled for our consultation and he'd have to push it back and it still was not ready. In other words if i were to have arrived and drove 20 miles again...all that way, he would have turned me around bc it was still not prepared. I tried one more time...same thing. I dont think it takes much effort to communicate with a potential client to let the client know where you stand.He had no respect for my time or money that i deposited so i cant trust someone like this to tattoo me. His behavior was passive aggressive and unprofessional. I decided to cancel the appointment, that meant I lost my deposit. I was disappointed at how he brushed me off. Piercing review: $20 piercing on Tuesdays is an incredible deal. My piercer, Matt, was lovely and personable, and he used gloves and sterile tools. When I almost passed out (three cartilage piercings on an empty stomach was, in hindsight, a terrible idea) he was quick to respond, and gave me time to rest. We had a little mishap with the placement (I wasn't sure exactly where I wanted it so we made a few dots) but he resolved that well, too. This place was absolutely amazing! From the time I walked in the door to the moment I left. Upon arriving I was greeted by the super friendly and sweet studio assistant Starr. This place was great! We had Matt perform our piercings (5 girls, 3 helix, 1 daith and 1 Tragus). We were taken back immediately and he clearly explained why he could not use small sized jewelry or anything other than surgical steel to decrease infection rate and slow healing. He was very patient with us as we were discussing if we liked the suggested placement of our piercings and did not try to sell us on any extraneous products such as "special" cleaning spray. He matter of factly said use dial and normal saline. The tattoo shop itself is very clean and modern!! The women working at the front desk was also very kind and pleasant with answering our questions. Overall, it was a great experience and all five of us were completely satisfied. I have to rave about the quality of work and professionalism of Kevin at Embassy Tattoo. I was a walk-in and got VERY lucky that Kevin had a cancellation (he is booked months in advance). I showed him a picture idea of what I was looking for and explained its significance to me. He quickly got to work drawing up his own unique design based on my reference art. I was blown away by what he created and was super excited to get started. He talked to me throughout the whole thing and had a really calming presence. He used the stippling method to create gorgeous depth to the mountains and the shading is phenomenal. He did this all within one hour. Oh and of course he guarantees his work, so if it ever needs a touch up I can come back in anytime free of charge. He was recently voted one of the top 5 tattoo artists in DC and it shows- seriously. So I have to say this is my base of operations for Tattoos for as long as I can for several reasons. First one would be the second I walked in I was treated like a human being, I have been to places in DC, and Georgetown that not only treated me like a burden, but did not make small talk, did not understand my needs, and gave me prices that were unreasonable. Whether it was one girl or the other, their ladies in the front they are such a sweet, lovely edition and made it feel wonderful to walk in and be attended too.The second reason, is Memo, he is like family to me now, he not only sat down with me brain storming tattoo ideas but throughout it all he always made time to make sure I was alright, that I was happy, did I want to add anything, and did I ultimately love the tattoo. He is a true artist in every way, he is down to earth, funny guy with a hand and true eye for tattoos and people. I went in for two tattoos so far with him, and both have come out perfect.One being something special to my heart, I had a injury for two years and wanted him to do a piece that will always mark the journey I took and the perseverance I had during it, it started off amazing, detailed, and absolutely stunning. The price is right, but if you can't make an appointment, how can you do business? Just walk in and hope they'll be there? Been there, done that, with other places, only to have a closed door during stated business hours and nobody answering the phone. So I don't do that anymore. I need to know someone is there, because my time is valuable to me.So after not being able to make an appointment, I'm told, "Just call to see if our piercer is working there that day".I called every time I was in town. During their business hours. They never answered the phone!In short -- If you're a random body walking down a street and you happen to see this place and think, "I need a piercing/tattoo right now!", then they probably have good prices. But if you need to get in a car and drive down there -- you'll never know if there doors are open or if the piercer is even there.I guess they get a lot of walk-in business to still BE in business, cause I sure as heck couldn't give them my money, try as I might for weeks. DO NOT waste time, or money going here. First off, the signing of the wavier (because it's a body modification of course) is tedious and the machine didn't really work half the time. However, that is NOT the point.The issue is that I went in on a Tuesday (they have $20 piercing Tuesdays), and I got my third lobe piercings done. It felt tight, but I knew that my ears were going to swell up a bit since I just had them punch a hole through them with a foreign object stuck there (being the earring). A week or two later, I notice that the earring is half in my ear, sticking out the back, but it's not in the front. It was odd, because the earring was still there, but the front portion of the piercing was beginning to heal shut since the earring wasn't sticking out like it should. I went to a local piercing shop (because I was at university at this point), and then they pulled it out and replaced it with a real earring -- EMBASSY TATTOO PIERCED ME WITH A PEDIATRIC STUD. I will never go back, not even for a tattoo. I don't trust this place. Read Less

My friend and I visited to take advantage of the $20 piercings on Tuesdays. If you're a college student with an ID, you'll get the discount. There was a long line, even late at night at around 8PM. It moves quickly, though, and if there's a lot of people ahead, you can wait at the little restaurant downstairs and grab a snack/drink. Drink plenty of water and eat something before getting any piercing.I wanted my septum done while my friend wanted her conch, cartilage, and rook done. Matt, our piercer, was really nice, very patient with all our questions and kept us relaxed. I think my friend and I were a little nervous but Matt was easy to talk to. We were out in minutes! While the piercing was only $20, I'm still going to complain.Matt, my piercer, did not disinfect the area before piercing (something that wasn't brought to my attention until my friend pointed it out after) and was less than friendly, having said maybe less than 5 words throughout the entire process. Tried making small talk about the piercing but he was not having it. He didnt ask me anything about what I wanted - I had to ask about the gauge size, etc. I came to get my septum done. He simply put the clamp on my nose and placed the needle through without many words, if any at all - not even a cue for when to breathe in or out. When it was done, he simply said "Alright, you're all set", not even bothering to tell me how to clean/take care of it until I asked him. There may have been a line for the Tuesday special but it was exceptionally rushed. This was definitely the least personable piercing experience I've ever and I've had dealt with around 7 other piercers.Probably won't go back. Got my nose pierced here and it was great! I worked in Adams Morgan and when one of my coworkers and I found out that they had $20 piercings on Tuesday's and had reputable reviews so we went! I got my nose pierced (stud then a couple months later had them switch it to a hoop after healing) and my coworker got her cartilage. Neither of us had problems and were were able to walk in! Despite the website, they discriminate on clients. I sent a proposal for an entire highly detailed chest piece for Fernando Gonzalez, to which I was told to mail a picture of my chest (which is weird), but I agreed. (I have two full sleeves and back tattoos, so I am not new to this industry). I then got a response from "Emily Young" that his "books are full," and they pawned me off to a newer artist.  Since they failed to mention this from my initial inquiry, he either screens his work (diva) or didn't like somebody who looks like me (just a speculation). Either way, I'm out. I don't support businesses who play games; especially not a very expensive, pain filled, permanent investment. Excuse my candor, but I didn't know my several thousand dollar request wasn't good enough for a person that I perceive as a "better than average artist, but not spectacular." DC has slim picking for realism black and gray, and this place was close, which is why I was even asking for a quote (which I never got). I'll stick with my artists in my hometown that are world famous and have been winners on Ink Masters. Read Less

I've been pierced by Matt on three different occasions over the past 3 or so years, and each time, he's been absolutely great! The first time, I was just accompanying a friend while she got a second pair of lobe piercings. I mentioned to him that one of my lobe piercings had closed up, and he went ahead and re-pierced it for me, only charging $20 for the jewelry itself (it wasn't even a Tuesday!). The second time, I got a double helix piercing and was a little nervous about it because I had a bad experience with an industrial piercing many years prior. Matt was super quick about it, and I barely had time to register the pain before he told me it was all done. Those piercings also healed up very well. Finally, I went in this past weekend and got my nose pierced. Once again, Matt was super quick and it was over before I even had time to get anxious about the pain. In sum, great guy, great piercer, and unbeatable price. My friend got the same nose piercing at Fatty's two weeks before me and paid over four times as much. In contrast, this shop is great about not overcharging for piercings, so make sure you tip your piercer! Read Less

Absolutely amazing place!! Me & my sister came over break to get work done (by Kevin & Memo) and it was exactly what we wanted. We booked pretty far in advance just cause we'd only be in town for a little bit but they definitely take walk ins.The work was so detailed and nicely done. Overall, I do not recommend this place. I'll start with the positive which is that I got a tattoo from Steph and she did a good job. She's also a super sweet lady. I decided to have another tattoo done with Tyler, which I scheduled an appointment for. After a week and browsing several tattoos, I changed my mind about what I wanted. I told him this at the appointment. He proceeds to tell me that he doesn't do those types of designs (so his talent is limited) and instead of referring me to another artist in the shop that can help, he tells me that we need to stick to the original plan. Can you believe that? A permanent marking on my body and he's telling me what it's going to be. I looked through his portfolio (his IG page) to see if I could find something else for him to do for me. But then I thought about it and realized that I didn't need to settle or get something that I didn't want! So I just walked out. What's even crazier is that he quoted me a pretty high price. I went to a competitor nearby and was quoted 1/2 the price. The competitor isn't poor quality either because I had them do another smaller tattoo as kind of a test of quality. The competitor also has a lot more foot traffic.Embassy Tattoo doesn't have a lot of foot traffic from what I could tell, which should have been a signal. Very expensive and not very accommodating is how I'd sum this place up and advise anyone against going.Lastly, the tattooing area is not private. Anyone walking in can see. Read Less

I got 3 piercings here about 3 months ago. It wasn’t healing well so I went into another shop that was closer to me to get new jewelry hoping that was the problem. When I went in, they looked at the backings and immediately asked who had pierced it. I told them Embassy and they told me that a lot of other clients had gone there and come out with messed up piercings. They used butterfly backings for all 3 of my close together ear piercings. I was told that piercers shouldn’t use them period because they harbor bacteria so imagine 3 really close ones. A lot of things were trapped back there despite the H2O spray/salt water soaks I did. Apparently Embassy isn’t keeping up with the standards of the industry. Please do not go there for your piercings. Save yourself money and time. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I walked in on a Saturday shortly after the shop opened hoping to get a small rose on my ankle. I was a little confused about the appointment process- I had tried making an appointment on the phone but you can only make appointments if you go in and put a deposit down- good to know for later. Initially I didn't think I would be able to get my piece done, but Fernando, the shop owner, graciously offered to squeeze me in. He was very helpful and worked with me to make sure the tattoo was the size, location, and coloring that I wanted, but also made some suggestions regarding placement and coloring that really improved the rose overall. My friend and I walked in here on a Monday evening after being turned away from another place that had said they were too crowded. We were immediately welcomed in by friendly and professional staff. Matt was very reassuring and professional during the piercing process. Overall, it was quick, easy, a clean environment, and Matt was patient with great responses to all of our questions. The piercing was surprisingly cheaper than we expected, since they didn't seem to skimp on quality at any point. It's also nice that they were open until 10pm, after many others places close. My best friend and I walked into Embassy Tattoo with high expectations and they did not disappoint! The location was very clean and the receptionists were kind and helpful even though we were walk ins. We felt like we were completely heard in what we wanted size wise, single needle wise, and location. We got our tattoo done with Memo. Even with something as small as a triangle tattoo, Memo made art for us. We appreciate how welcoming we felt from him and the rest of the staff!I also did my first Tatt2Away session and Matt was patient and answered all of my questions. This is an amazing shop, the people are friendly and fun, the space is very clean, the playlist is great, and more importantly the quality of work is superb. I went yesterday to get a half sleeve by Fernando. I initially had my consultation back in November, but it was definitely worth the wait and the price. This is probably the best tattoo I have on my body. He made me feel very comfortable and explained everything he was going to do through the 6 hour tattoo. It was definitely painful, but he joked around which made the time go by quickly. The only draw back is parking as it is close to Adams Morgan, so finding street parking is a hassle, I actually had to step out and pay the meter during the session. But I do believe there is a near by parking garage that you may want to consider if getting a tatt that'll take a while. All in all a great place and I will definitely be back to get more work done. I went in wanting some font on both of my top shoulder areas. We picked out a font and size he felt he could tattoo legible. As you can see, that wasn't the case. The R's look like B's and the G's look like O's. There's also blowout on a few of the letters. I'm already trying to figure out a coverup tattoo since you can't read the words I had tattooed.One good thing is that everyone was friendly. Read Less

I'm not usually one to post reviews, but I wanted to make sure this shop and my artist receive the credit they deserve. I've wanted to get my first tattoo on and off for years, and I've inquired elsewhere only to be put on a long waitlist for artists, felt unwelcome, or put off by the vibe. I had the complete opposite experience with Embassy Tattoo. The shop was clean and not intimidating, and I actually felt welcome by the friendly front desk associate and artists. Everything went so quickly and smoothly that I'm still a bit shocked that I now have a tattoo, but I couldn't be happier with the result. Stef is a very talented and professional artist, and she created a beautiful fine line design from my rough sketch. She made the process as smooth and painless as possible, and the design grows on me the more I admire it. I came in to get three cartilage piercings for my birthday three weeks ago. Matt walked me through which ear was better and changed the placement for me before we started. He kept joking with me while I got them, which is exactly what I needed. I was a little light headed after I got them done, and he had gummy bears and water. This is my second tattoo I've gotten at Embassy Tattoo and I always have such a positive experience here! I walked in with only a rough idea of what I wanted and Stef did an amazing job at turning it into a piece of art. Since it was a really meaningful piece, it meant a lot that she was so enthusiastic about it.The session was quick and easy, she let me know that I could take a break at any time and made sure I was feeling alright throughout the process.On top of everything, this tattoo was very reasonably priced. My right ear lobe piercing was way too low and the piercer even admitted it. I did not get an apology and still had to pay full price for it. I have now taken out the right stud and will have to get my ear redone somewhere else. Do not recommend - was really excited and hopeful after reading the other reviews and was let down. Paid $50 for the piercings and the cleaning solution was an extra $10 on top of that. Also: they use butterfly backing earrings for first time piercings which is horrible. It took me an hour to get the messed up earring out and was very painful. It’s been 20 minutes and my ear is still bleeding. I took advantage of the Tuesday $20 piercings special to get my nose pierced. I met with Matt, and the process was incredibly simple. I was in and out in about 10 minutes.Overall, it was very smooth. Excellent artists. Great tattoo shop. Parking was awful since it's in the city so try to find a ride or take a lyft or uber. The price was a bit expensive but the quality of the tattoo was incredible. My artist was Stef and i highly recommend her. The shop itself is very clean and they take good care of their equipment. Don't judge Embassy by the exterior or the stairwell. Once you actually get into the shop it is very clean, new and well maintained. I've only gone here for piercing and jewelry changes. The piercer was super professional, quick and sterilized everything. I went to get a body piercing and he didn't make it awkward at all. Piercings are great but tattoos are a RIP OFF!!! Walked in to get the very simple symbol of DC, which should be done in well under an hour, and they offered to do it for $350. Haha! I've gotten quite a few tattoos in my day. Don't ride on the fact you pay rent for a small upstairs room in DC to offer those prices. I went in with a good friend to get our helixes pierced. As I have a fairly severe nickel allergy, I've been fairly hesitant to get piercings with traditional starter jewelry, as I've had some really bad experiences. I called as soon as the shop opened to ask about the materials and Matt, the piercer we ended up getting, was extremely helpful and thorough in his explanation. This call, paired with their incredible $20 piercing Tuesdays (any piercing but dermals for $20), helped convince me to pull the trigger on getting this piercing I've wanted for quite a while. For those concerned about material and jewelry shape, the starter stud for my particular piercing is a small white gem (unsure if it's cubic zirconium or rhinestone) with a secure backing (see photos) and made with surgical grade stainless steel. The station was very clean, with him ensuring he completely broke down and set up in between my friend and I.The process was painless, quick, and Matt has a very sweet disposition that makes you feel comfortable. The establishment is clean and neat, and though I haven't gone for a tattoo, a quick flip through the various artists' portfolios are promising. I'll definitely be going back to correct some uneven lobe piercings and would definitely recommend giving them a try! Read Less

I went there to get matching tattoos with my best friend who was visiting from out of town. The place was easy to find even though it was a walk up (it is not accessible for folks in wheelchairs as far as I could tell). The place is small but very very clean and recently renovated. The receptionist was super nice and helpful, she even remembered that we called earlier in the day. My friend and I signed the forms quickly (they are on computers which is super convenient) while our artist drew the design. Fabrezio (Zetir on Instagram) was able to make a really blurry picture of a stick and poke into something beautiful we both loved! He was really nice and the tattos were quick and mostly painless. Probably 20 minutes at most. Overall it was a really pleasant experience and I have already recommended the place to my friends. I plan to come back for my next tattoo.Read Less

My best friend and I got tattoos at Embassy with Fabricio yesterday. We had an excellent experience! The shop was extremely clean and well maintained, and the staff were highly professional and friendly. They also took us as walk-ins which was great. Fabricio listened to our ideas and looked at our photo inspiration and designed the perfect tattoo. He was very quick with it as well. The tattoos look awesome and seem to be healing really well so far. My one complaint was that I thought it was a bit expensive ($140 each for pretty small tattoos), although this pricing reflects that we had them done in someone challenging spots. I don't have a great deal of experience with tattoos and I believe the artist that this was a fair price.Anyway, wonderful shop, great people, and high quality tattoos. Would certainly recommend! The guys were super nice. I'm in a wheelchair and they're on the second floor which sucks but when I called and asked and then was disappointed and asked about somewhere else to go, they suggested they'd meet me downstairs and help me get up to the shop. My tattoo artist was Guillermo, and he was really chill and made me feel at ease about the process explaining what he was doing and where. They're also very meticulous about the work checking and re-checking before they start. I decided because I liked them so much to also go out on a whim and get a nose piercing (which hurt like a SOB but it looks GOOD! So I can't complain.) In terms of the price, I factor in a few things. First off, it's human flesh and artwork. That shouldn't be cheap, period. Secondly, good artists do good work. Their work is on the website and I knew they were quite good at what they do, so I was willing to pay for it. So while steep, it's fair. And I was there for maybe 2.5 hours. Read Less

I wanted a small, five word tattoo to commemorate the passing and legacy of my rockstar Prince. This would be my first tattoo while living in D.C., so I had no idea that walk-ins weren't legit. Fortunately, Embassy had me in and out as a walk-in within 90 minutes. I love the end result, but also feel that I was overcharged. Best tattoo shop I've been to. Staff is welcoming, the shop is incredibly clean. Fernando is accommodating and his talent is second to none in the DMV from what I've seen. I definitely plan on getting the rest of my tattoos done through him. He did a cover up for me on my wrist and it's perfection. Great experience at this tattoo studio. Last week I got a black & grey phoenix tattooed on my thigh by Fernando. I booked my appointment a couple months prior for a 2 day back to back session. I emailed Fernando my idea along with reference images. He sent me a sketch a week or two prior to my tattoo appointment. It was a good sketch - but because it was such a big piece I wanted changes. He catered to what I needed and had me come in to the shop to talk in person a couple days before my appointment. He was extremely helpful in showing me how the piece would fit on my body. Making sure the tattoo would flow with my curves. I felt really confident and happy with how the tattoo would come out - after walking into the shop full of nerves. I got a second sketch at the shop. And he emailed me a third a day before my appointment.On the day of my appointment, I last minute wanted to change the position of the lotus flower. This was not a problem at all and he made sure to take the time to pick a real lotus flower online to reference for exactly how I wanted it positioned. Didn't rush the process. He gave me a pillow to rest my head on and all the breaks I needed. He only took breaks when I needed them. The next day the pain was much worse and he used a special numbing ointment because he noticed I was in much more agony and distress. If he didn't do this/offer I don't think I would of mentally been able to finish and sit through the 6 hour second day after the 7 hour first day. Overall Fernando was great to work with. Easy to talk to. Made me feel comfortable. Especially as this was my first big tattoo piece. Also if anyone is worried about loud tattoo machines (his is very quiet - barely audible). I just got my tattoo Tuesday and I love it!  I have been following Fernando on instagram for his portfolio and really loved how he was able to make a rose look for real and delicate.  I thought he would be the best artist for me because I wanted a magnolia.I made a consultation with him over email and he told me to walk-in during his working hours.  The consultation was very short and we went over what kind of tattoo I was looking for and placement.  Fernando was very calm and confident with his suggestions.  I have emailed him literally 20 or more pictures of magnolias and he was able to blend in two pictures together for my tattoo.  It was definitely painful but worth it!  Thank you Fernando!  I would have to post pictures soon!
