The artists are the best! Not a flash tattoo shop, so no random walk ins. Private rooms.

I live in Austin and visit DC regularly, which allowed me to compare many large studios in both cities when looking for an artist to do my next tattoo. I'm so glad I went with Fernando at Britishink. Fernando is an impressive artist who takes the time necessary to make sure the exact design is what you want, and that it's done to his high standards. He was easy to work with and was happy to adjust the design to my specific preferences. The studio was comfortable and clean, with a relaxed atmosphere. The whole experience was great. If/when I get another tattoo, he's the only one I'd ask to do it. Read Less

(corss posted from yelp) Tattooed by Fernando/Nano This review is based on my initial consult and six sessions from September 2012 to when he finished in January 2014: He is very charming and easy to fall in love with in his chair. I expected a lot more considering I paid $1,500, 5 sessions at about $300+tip each. I counted more than 30 hours of session time. This did not include prep time, though I will mention he is very thorough about keeping a sanitary environment. I stopped at 30 hours because at that point why should I keep counting? It took over a year to finish because he is a chronic over-booker and was late for every appointment. Sometimes it was 15 minutes, others were over an hour. Considering I could only get into his book on business days, my time literally is money. I took work off to finish this piece so the absolute least he could have done was be on time. This was my first big piece and wasn't sure what to expect. I mistook the hip atmosphere and charm for skill. His lines are uneven and heavy handed. It looks like someone just filled in a coloring book; but at least the coloring book has even black lines. I gave him free reign for aesthetics as I knew he was a good painter. Another disappointment. I think he improvised colors because it looked tacky. I told him what I didn't like about it and he tried to fix it. Sigh. The second to last session he rushed through everything because just about every part needed to be retouched (I hadnt seen him for six months because of his injury and color faded through the summer) So if he was able to fill my arm in two sessions, why did I pay for five? I should mention by the fifth session I was already disappointed and when he told me I had to come for a sixth (he originally told me three or four sessions) I let him know that I wasn't happy. The redeeming two stars are for him giving me the sixth session free. During that session, he tells me, "Yeah I saw someone with the same concept and he way over paid for it" "How much did he pay?" I was hoping for something, anything that could restore my faith in my investment. "Fifteen hundred!" -_____- sigh. "yeah man, thats how much I paid for you to do this." Really though? You cant remember how much you're charging your clients? He almost didn't believe me. He had to look at his ipad calendar to see that he booked me for all of those sessions. "Oh. I thought I gave you a good deal." "Nope" Two months later and after healing well and a good deal of peeling (heavy handed, remember?) I'm noticing a lot patches and uneven color and at least five places he just forgot to fill in; that will happen when you rush. I was considering contacting him and ask to touch it up but I'm over it. I don't want to go through the trouble of getting into his book and being nervous the entire time. He's been doing this a little over two years or so. Fernando is intelligent and well spoken. ***edit*** This is irrelevant to my experience with him but: I think he would do well on a tattoo reality show because I imagine he do well in front of a camera. He's equipped with many stories to charm the shirt off of you. If you're looking for a drinking buddy, this is your guy. Too bad for me, I dont drink. British Ink is not worth your time. Aaron is cool check him out. Paul was giving me lots of pretense, look at previous reviews as my experiences with them were limited to the five minutes of walking in and seeing how Nano was doing. If you're smart you'll do the convention circuit and find an artist that way. Dont limit yourself to the DC region because you can find twice as skilled for half the price. Also make sure to ask for lots and lots and lots of HD pictures (not instagram) and make sure they can run a straight line. Read Less
