Went in here for a tattoo they described as a "simple idea". The guy who drew my sketch didn't ask many questions, and didn't seem to care about understanding the details of what I wanted before he drew it. Brought me the sketch and it was the wrong size (literally way too big, XXL) and it looked terrible. It went from being a said "simple tat" to something he doesn't feel completely comfortable doing after I told him his sketch didn't look how I thought it would. He said to look for another artist that could do realism. Then he told me to wait a second and speak to another artist at the shop who did not greet me or say anything while we were both standing at the front counter for about 5 minutes. Not happy. Worst experience ever had and I have 12 tattoos. Owner doesn't stand by the work done at his shop. And has horrible personally... A good owner would want to make it right weather he did work or one of his employees... atmosphere is generally cold no personality. Got my rook pierced here. Really disappointed that I was not shown where it would be pierced! If I knew I would have told him to move it. My piercing is so far back and close to my inner ear it was more painful then when I got it done previously in my other ear. I can barely wiggle it like I am supposed to for cleaning. I give 5 stars not because ive been to this studio for work, but I have had art done by Dave Mele from a previous shop where I met him for the first time and this guys a pro, and I have dark skin, so I was kind of nervous about as to how my tattoo was going to Look. I love the guys at Pinstruck!! Everyone is really warm and welcoming every time I come in! Coree has done every piercing I have and I'm a pretty big baby when it comes to pain but even my nipples were quick and relatively painless. Absolutely love Pinstruck! I've been there for tattoos and piercings. Coree is a piercer there who has now pierced me three times and every time I've never had an issue. He's super nice, knows what he's doing (which has made me nervous at previous shops), makes the process easy, and is hilarious. Definitely recommend and will continue to go there myself. Read Less

Pinstruck is a hidden gem in the bland suburbia of Newark, DE.  Go there and you can browse portfolios of artists' work and laminated binders of designs to inspire ideas.  Yet the resident tattoo artists there possess talent beyond what the display artwork suggests.  Bring them a sketch of your own and they will execute it beautifully, whether you're looking for something basic and monochrome or complex, shaded and multicolored.  Plus the flat rate is only $55.  I live in Philly and I'm a Pinstruck devotee, willing to make the 45-minute drive when I could just go to the tattoo shop up the street.  From personal experience I recommend Joe B. as your artist for custom work-- he ensures the tattoo is drawn so that it will age well, and he's pretty interesting to talk to.  However, I have only heard positive things about the works of Mikey and Chris.
