This place is wicked cool for starters. The cleanliness was on point and the staff were all fantastic. They all made me feel super comfortable and at home being my first time in a Connecticut tattoo shop. Jay did my custom tattoo, read my mind on what I wanted and delivered. He's a true artist. I had dm'd Joe through Instagram and had asked him if he was able to tattoo me tomorrow (Sunday) and he said that he was going out to go tattoo in New York and was unable to. He also explained that the shop is closed on Sundays & Monday's but had told me that he had a key. He asked me to send some pictures of the work I already have so he could "rework" them. This was his response to the tattoo I have on my hip. He was begging me to send a photo of me without clothes in exchange for him to tattoo me on a day that the shop would be closed and "no one else would be there". As a West Hartford native I have long been a proponent of our local Shamrock Tattoo Company. After an extremely positive first experience in 2015 I returned in 2018 to add to my collection. Unfortunately the positive, enthusiastic, friendly vibe that once set me at ease was nowhere to be found. My assigned artist was brash, uninterested, and showed no desire to accommodate my ideas for the tattoo. Some of this falls on my shoulders - I should have come to the shop with a clear vision for what I wanted. However, I think it is the responsibility, if not ethos, of a tattoo artist to work with his customers to find a realistic, visually pleasing design. This artist's body language and tone suggested that he merely wanted us in and out of the shop as quickly as possible - that we were insignificant. He scoffed at the idea of drafting a few different samples, instead it was straight to the internet to rip off a generic outline. When I expressed my distaste for the piece he grew irritated, even offensive. After much back and forth I eventually succumbed to the pressure and accepted a tattoo far from my original idea. I should not have done this. After going to a different shop I was able to modify the existing ink and now have something that I enjoy looking at. Still, I will neither return to Shamrock nor recommend it to a friend. Read Less

Did a lot of research before deciding to come here and I'm happy I did! Felt I needed to get a very important tattoo for my husband that passed and it meant everything that it was done perfectly and I was not disappointed! Greg was amazing, professional, polite, honest and took his time with you. More importantly that he is a prestige artist which I needed and was hoping to find and I did! Everyone is very friendly and professional. Came in on a weekday afternoon and had to schedule an appointment. I wanted a copy of a bike chain cog, but I didn't have one to give them to replicate so one of the guys offered to bring one in for my appointment. The stencil was exactly what I was expecting and it turned out great. Greg did it in 30 minutes with minimal pain and it was pretty much fully healed in a little over a week. Highly recommend. I've come here for all of the tattoos that I have (5). You always know that you'll get the attention you need to get your tattoo done exactly the way you want it. It's clean and the guys are real professionals. Jay Kelly is the artist I go to here, and I honestly don't want to have any other artist work on my tattoos. Once you walk into this shop, you will never want a tattoo from anywhere else!! Everything about this shop is amazing! The artists in the shop is very enthusiastic and very talented. Any style of tattoo can be done and all of them are at the highest quality. Don't have a single bad thing to say about the guys at shamrock! They're great! I walked in on a Tuesday during lunch, without an appointment. I told them i wanted to have a word tattooed on my ribs. They said "no problem!" He went in the back and brought back a bunch of fonts to discuss with me. I already knew what I wanted and it was one of the options he had picked as well. He came back with the stencil and made sure the size was perfect. I asked for a slight tweak, which he accommodated. He got set up, did the tattoo quickly and as painlessly as possible! The shop was bright, clean, and friendly. I felt very comfortable even though im sure it was a super boring tattoo for an artist capable of real art. I got a tattoo done by Jake on October 11th and I give 2 huge thumbs up to him and the whole studio! My very first tattoo was done by the owner back when I was 17 - I'm 30 now and stoked he has his own shop. Jake is totally chill and a consummate professional. I went to Shamrock Tattoo Studio after visiting 3 other shops. I talked to Jake P about my plans for my tattoo cover up. He drew a rough sketch showing me what would be needed for an effective cover up right on my arm.  I set the appointment for the next day and left the shop with a good feeling about the appointment. When I got there we drew up the design together, he took into consideration all the components I wanted using what space he had to work with. Walked in about 6:45 (they close at 8) and asked if they had time for a piece. Guy asked what I was looking to get, I said traditional and 2 people quickly stepped up! Love my work done by Tim, would def recommend him. He reassured me that he wanted me to be comfortable and like the work. My piece was custom drawn by him and won't be used again. Went there spontaneously to get two finger tattoos after hearing good reviews by word if mouth. My first one is the letters BL on my pointer finger, came out ok the next was an anchor on my middle finger, nothing about this anchor is even!!!! The lines are all crooked and tilted, the arrows are two totally different shapes and sizes!!! Exactly one year ago, at the age of 31, I decided to take a risk and do something I've always wanted to do. I got my first tattoo.  And being that I'm an "all or nothing" type of girl, I decided to get a large tattoo from my shoulder to my elbow. It's GORGEOUS and every day people stop me to compliment it. Tattoo?Shamrock Tattoo is located across from Egg Roll Express, near the intersection of Park Rd. and Quaker Lane.   The location was been home to Duffy's years back and more recently the American Legion Hall while they waited for their new space to be constructed in Blueback. This is my second visit to this business.  I stopped by earlier just prior to their grand opening and received a great tour of the business.  This is a very nice, hard working group of artists.  The facility is clean, and as pointed out to me, they pay great attention to Hygiene.  Many of the designs that comprise their body of work are on display there in the studio. With permission you may be able see a work of body art take shape before your eyes.  Definitely worth checking out if you are shopping around. Read Less
