Got my first tattoo here a few years ago. Overall it was a great experience. The place is super inviting and clean. I didn't feel pressured into getting anything I didn't want. I got something that might be considered a little "cliche" but the artist didn't judge me for it. He made a few recommendations base don his experience which were helpful. He did exactly what I asked and was very informative throughout the whole procedure. I felt very conformable with him. My tattoo is located right below my bikini line near my hip so it was painful but the artist let me take a few breaks in between the whole process which definitely helped. The outline didn't hurt as much as the coloring and shading did. After he was done he gave me instructions on how to take care of it and to call him if I had any questions. Got work done here today. My first tattoo so I was not sure what to expect. Dan was my artist and made the whole thing an awesome experience from start to finish. I couldn't be more estatic with how it came out. I came in with a picture just as an idea and he put his own touch on it. I've been to Green Man before, and this visit just cements my opinion that this is an EXCELLENT studio. This time George Wilkinson did the work. I have had two jobs done by these artists and I do not have any complaints at all. My first one was completed in 2009 and the coloring is fantastic for the age. Many people think it's only a couple years old and I'm like, "nope! Try almost 9!" Personal care and sunlight do have an effect on a tattoos lifespan of course but I've seen some pretty bad jobs on other people and I'm glad I went here. No issues whatsoever. Keep up the good work. I been going there since 2001. I love all my tattoos I've gotten there. Although back in 2009 I went in, no appt, just got two small tats on my wrist. A week later I went back for a touch up, I noticed a few spots that needed coloring in. All I remember is there was a woman and a couple of guys there and one of them said what do you want me to take a sharpie and fix it? And they laughed. I was a little shocked and just said wow ok and walked out. I thought that was so rude considering I paid 80$ plus a tip on a small tat. I have a great tattoo, but unfinished. My artist said I needed another 15 minutes for coloring. I was unable to get into see him after trying for 2 weeks (the amount of time needed between sessions for healing). After begging and pleading, I was told that my artist was going to another shop and that I could go with him. I left several messages that were lost because of a malfunctioning answering machine. Jim has done two of my tattoos and his work is incredibly high quality and clean. I'd recommend him to anyone. He's also super funny and had to pause tattooing for a moment because he made me laugh so hard. He made 3.5 hours of a painful shoulder tattoo bearable. I had heard great reviews about Green Man from peers and so went to get a simple tattoo on my shoulder last year. The tattoo artist was very kind and made me feel very comfortable. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience. I was so nervous during the process that I didn't realize until later that the tattoo artist did not put on his gloves until AFTER he unwrapped the needle and put it into the machine. After I got home, my tattoo was very painful  for over a week, to the point where I had to put a little antibiotic ointment on it. This took care of the pain but leached some of the color out of the tattoo. When I went to get it touched up (elsewhere), the artist said that while the tattoo was done well, the artist had a very heavy hand and so there was quite a bit of scar tissue underneath. It could have been worse, but I will be going elsewhere for future tattoos. Read Less

I got a helix piercing in January from another studio. The piercing fallout the other night, I lost the ball but still had the stud. I called the studio where I had it done, they told me their piercing was on vacation, and to go over to Green Man and see Laura - whom used to work at their shop. I called up Green Man, talk to Laura and she told me to come on in and she can reinsert it and we place the ball for FREE! I went in later in the day, Laura was great, she saw me right away. Green Man did not have the ball cap for my stud, but she took her time and came up with an alternative cap. The vibe of Green Man is very chili, and welcoming too. I have had 11 tattoos done at Greenman and could never imagine going somewhere else. Not only has the work been wickedly awesome, the atmosphere is a blast. The "Cuddle Cave" is my favorite place to be inked and share a cupcake or two! My most recent tattoo is a symbol for my battle with breast cancer. I told them that I did not want a pretty, "I'm a victim" ribbon, but a baddass one. We collaborated and I got the tattoo that tells of my journey. It is pink, but it is also tattered and wrapped in barbed wire. Cancer sucks, but this tattoo is a daily reminder of a battle I am winning. The quality and skill has dropped off tremendously. 2004 greenman would get a 5 star rating from me, but 2014 greenman has dropped off. They don't seem to care anymore. It takes forever to get an appt, and then you get pawned off on to someone else when you show up. I am not willing to risk my body for these business practices. Read Less

Green Man is the BEST!! I have gotten three tattoos covered by Pat who did an amazing job. Pat is professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and he is honest...he will not let you get some BS tattoo just to make a buck..he will tell you what works best especially when it comes to cover ups and touch ups. The Green Man atmosphere is awesome too..I have been to parlors where there were always shady people hanging around and staff was rude and condescending...this is DEFINITELY not the case here..everyone is friendly, from the girl in the front, to the artists in the back. Came here to make an appointment to get a tattoo and the people working here seemed rude.  The lady who I spoke to about picking out a nose ring was not helpful and acted as though I was bothering her to open the case. She has "f*** you" tattooed on her fingers,  so I guess, yeah it's pretty obvious she doesn't like people.  Why would you hire someone like that to be your "receptionist"? Plus their best tattoo artists don't even work here anymore.  I went to Black Diamond to get my nose ring, and the owner told me to go to Shamrock Tattoo or Nautilus. I did and I'm so glad. Not going to lie, I'm not the biggest fan.  I've gotten a half sleeve done here, as well as various piercings through out the years.  First off, my most recent trip, I waited half an hour in an empty studio for the girl who does all the piercings.  When she finally came down, I was taken upstairs to wait a bit longer, only then to be told that Papito was the only one who pierces noses, and I'd have to come back in an hour because he was tattooing someone.  No big deal, I don't mind Green Man wasting my time.  When I came back, he was still tattooing but decided he'd take care of me and quickly pierced my nose.  I'm highly disappointed in the way he pierced, where he decided to pierce after I suggested where I wanted it done and the jewelry HE chose (even though I was told by the girl I could have whatever jewelry I wanted).   I'm with Mish and back everything he says about Papito because I experienced the same thing.  He pierced it so low, the jewelry hung out of my nose (i felt like i had my fingers up my nose all the time trying to push the jewelry back up) and I ended up taking it out all together.  So, not only do I not have my piercing in anymore due to where Papito chose to pierce it, but now I have an ugly dark scar where the hole is healing and am out $45.  I'm pretty bummed about it.That doesn't even top the cake as to why I'll probably never go back.  I had a half sleeve done by Jay and he took what I originally hated about my tattoos and made it even worse by trying to trace over some of the work already done without even covering it up.  I have been so self conscious about his work and now I have to find someone who does amazing coverup to fix his mess.  Any suggestions anyone reading this has, please feel free to message me! :):)There are a million other places to get tattoo'd and pierced, I suggest you find better places to go. I actually went here after reading all the amazing reviews on Yelp...I got tattooed by Jake, who recently left the studio unfortunately... but he was absolutely incredible. He's given me one tattoo that took two sessions and both times he was extremely comforting about the pain (it was on my lower back/ribs).  Whenever a spot hurt too much, he could tell and would move to a different spot and go back to the more painful spot later. He was just absolutely amazing and I'm definitely going to find him in Philadelphia wherever he is to have him tattoo me again in the future!Overall, this place is amazing. The receptionist that I dealt with both times is extremely sweet and it's a very laid back, comfortable atmosphere. I've gotten two tattoos and a lip piercing at Green Man, and couldn't be happier (I was only upset when I had to get rid of said lip piercing to teach...ah well)!The front desk is ALWAYS very helpful, cheerful, and friendly.  Which is AMAZING and incredibly rare for a tattoo place.  Both times, I've been able to book appointments really soon after coming in with an idea for a tattoo, if not on the same day.The work is clean, safe, and high quality.  Also pretty fast, in my opinion.  The artists are great, too.  for my second tattoo, which is behind my ear, I didn't even come in with a drawing--I just described what I wanted...and when I saw the sketches he came out with, it was like the artist got into my head and drew EXACTLY what I envisioned.  It was great!Pricing is also very good--I have one other tattoo that I got at another tattoo studio, and it's small with only two colors--yet my medium-sized, multi-colored shoulder tattoo at Green Man was the same price!There is definitely a reason why they are consistently voted the best tattoo parlor in Hartford! Green Man is great. I got my bellybutton pierced there when I was 18 and saw how clean the place was. I also know quite a few people who have gotten tattoos here and recommended it.I finally decided to get a tattoo last year and knew that I would only get it done at Green Man. I made an appointment for my cousin and I and the girl on the phone was very friendly.I can't remember who did our tattoos but he was great, drew exactly what we wanted and made us feel calm! He did a great job and charged us the minimum for the tattoos since they were so easy to do.I absolutely loooove my tattoo and if I decide to get anymore, Green Man will be the only place I go.
