I was recommended to Vanity Rites by a family member. It had been a while since I got a tattoo after my first tattoo (got an overpriced tattoo by a shop in New Haven). So I was hesistant to get another one. Vanity Rites totally changed my mind on the idea of a "tattoo shop". Jo, the owner, was very down to the earth and can talk to you about anything. She drew up my first tattoo and let me make modifications without an issue. Her prices are excellent. She works with you and lets you know approximately how much it will be and how long it will take. Her work and shading is beautiful. My tattoos haven't been crazy extravagant (design wise) but she has done some amazing stuff in her books. Since getting my first tattoo I've gone back and got another. I've even recommended other family to Jo as well. She is right off the central road in Southington so its not out of the way. Went here for my first tattoo. Jo made it fun. The place itself is very nice and very clean. She did a great job on the cursive writing that I wanted. I had googled a font generator prior to seeing her and she had the font I found which made it super easy. She was quick and it didn't hurt. This shop is absolutely incredible. Here are full details and a list of this shop's highlights:     I called this afternoon requesting a walk-in appointment for a traditional piece and spoke to Jo. ***Let me say right off-the-bat she is, hands down, the best artist to ever tattoo me. For $125/hour, having her work on you is basically highway robbery. No charge for drawing time. Incredibly low price per hour for the final result. She is meticulous, open-minded, crazy talented, and just an all around pleasure to spend time with.***     I came in with 3 reference photos to which she said, "Right on", and began drawing up an original design incorporating all of my "wants" into one amazing piece. While she was working, I had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with their awesome apprentice, Katie, who was busy working on artwork of her own.     Within the hour, I was given my design and began prep. After my first transfer, I wanted it bigger and asked a few things be changed. Jo and Katie both worked quickly and diligently to make my piece perfect for me.     During my session, Jo had both hilarious and heartfelt conversations with me about everything from my career, to my education, to my family, and more. She paid close attention to the tattoo and to me the entire time. She truly cares about the lives of her clients.     I felt zero pain the majority of the time. Granted, I have many tattoos in much tougher places, but the thigh and hip aren't a breeze. Without numbing cream, solely by her maneuvers with the machine and skill, she kept me feeling safe and completely comfortable the entire time. Finally, during shading, she offered me numbing cream to which I caved because I was feeling tender. Mind you, I had already been getting worked on for over an hour non-stop, and it was completely painless.     After we finished, I was near tears with my new piece. I've never been happier with an artist, shop, or tattoo. They are truly a goldmine.Highlights: minimal pain (if any), incredibly clean environment, very friendly, talented artists, 10% off when referred or you refer somebody, comfortable space to wait in and get tattooed in, prices so low you feel like you're stealing from them (I mean, $125/hr for her work? This is a brand new business that just opened July 6th. In the spirit of full-disclosure: I am friends with the owners.I have wanted to get a tattoo for about 25 years but kept putting it off. When my friends decided to open their own studio, I felt this was the right time. I was very pleased with the overall service and they were kind to a tattoo newbie and put me at ease by explaining everything that was going to happen; as you can imagine I was a little nervous since this was my first tattoo.The studio is in a great location in downtown Southington and is clean and well organized.
