Here's 2 reasons while i'll never go back:1. A few years ago i went in for a consult, made the appt for a month later and put down the required $50. Found out from a friend,  NOT the store, the artist had left. However the credit card bill reflected the 50 payment. When i called they said it was the policy of the business, nothing they would do about it, to bad. Later i found out this is a customary practice here.2. I'm here now, relucctanty buying a sweatshirt for my spouse that was on her Christmas  list. I called a day ahead and asked the female recep. If they had the zip up hoody in an xl. "Yup" before i finished my sentenced. So i repeated 2 more times, telling her i was coming from Manchester. "Nope, have 10 right here." Guess what. Yup..you got it. Only had them in a xxl. I got my first tattoo at Nautilus by Jim, and it was the best experience I could have asked for. He was kind, compassionate and understanding to my nerves. He walked me through the whole process and made me feel so comfortable. I trusted him whole heartedly that he would do exactly as I had invisioned. I immediately set up an appointment with her, and have been driving 90 minutes to my tattoo appointments since! The shop is so clean, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The work I've had done there is amazing, and the price is always very reasonable for the work being done. One day I started to feel light-headed during one of my all day sessions, and the artist from the room next door brought me medicine and made sure I had water and snacks. Nautilus is an amazing tattoo shop! I have been getting tattooed by Jim regularly over the last year. He is incredibly talented at everything from overall design to what he can do with colors. He is always working with me and providing really helpful input to ensure I get the best possible tattoo. Aside from that the shop in general is a great place. I highly recommend Manny as a tattoo artist. I was originally scheduled with another artist who wasn't available last minute, but I decided to keep my consultation date and was reassigned Manny. I am so glad that I was. I got a tattoo with my girlfriend and he used a picture we gave him and added his own style making it even more beautiful than we had originally imagined. It was my second tattoo and my girlfriends first, but Manny made the process very easy and comfortable for both of us.The facility itself is also very clean and professional. After shopping around I chose Nautilus because the place had a great vibe to it. The staff was knowledgeable, I liked that each artist had their own room to work in, and everything was clean and professional. Rob and I met, worked up a design and scheduled an appointment.Tattoo day came and I couldn't be more pleased. Rob made sure I was as comfortable as possible, made certain I saw all of the sterilized pieces. He worked quickly and efficiently, making sure I took a break when needed. I will be coming back!This isn't where I got my first tattoo but now has become my favorite tattoo parlor in CT. It's in a cute building many floors when you enter. You must walk up to meet the receptionist I can't remember his name but he was a delight. The building itself is very clean and each artist has his or her own room, so if you need privacy you've got it. I didn't make an appointment prior however they worked me in. Start to finish everything was smooth sailing, the receptionist and my artist were both very personable. Gave me a little care package as I left. If you need a tattoo shop in CT this is it! I've been coming to Nautilus Tattoo for the last five years. The last two weeks I was tattooed twice by Jake. Absolutely love my new tattoos. My mom and I are regulars here, and we live in Massachusetts! So far, she has gotten seven tattoos from Greg Merola, who also gave me my first tattoo. I have also gotten a half sleeve from Stretch. We originally selected Nautilus because of their single-use equipment, their cleanliness, and their friendly atmosphere. Now I'd be hard-pressed to find any other place I'd want to get a tattoo! Both of my experiences there have been phenomenal: Greg made me feel right at home and ...totally at ease before getting inked for the first time, and I am astounded by the beautiful shading in my half sleeve. I sat for nine hours and was at the shop for ten, and by the time I went home I felt like I was saying goodbye to a family friend! People have stopped me in literally (literally!) every public place I've been in the past month to talk about my ink. Fisrt time at this shop..my artist was Jim and let me tell you...I brought him a custom piece a cast of my dogs paw prints that I wanted done...it was really important it was exactly my dogs paw prints..Jim knocked it wayyyy out of the park with a absolutely stunning and flawless design..every inch was exact, i love my tat ...all the staff I met was super friendly and talkative ..it was nice to see Jim was just as pumped about doing my piece as I was getting it you can tell he loves his job. I can't say enough about this place.First off, the set up is very comfortable and clean. Each  artist has his/her own room. Front desk staff are friendly and professional. Additionally, the artists at Nautilus represent the range of tattoo styles commonly sought out. No matter what your jam is, theres probably someone at Nautilus who can hook you up. Before choosing Nautilus I checked out a ton of shops. I live in the Boston area, but hardly anyplace measured up to Nautilus. This shop has zero attitude and everyone is super talented and professional. Good vibes all around. I've been working with Stretch for about a year, doing a makeover of random old ink. Turning my 90's souvenirs into a cohesive 3/4 sleeve. I never stop being amazed at Stretches ability to transform my clunky old celtic band into colorful and beautiful flowers. Spent around 75 hours total in the chair here, 5 on a small piece and 70 on a huge chest/torso piece. Wound up doing 6 full day sessions so I got to spend a number of full days in the shop. A spectacular studio overall, skilled artists, and a clean friendly atmosphere. I have nothing negative to say about this place. If you want a unique, beautiful, and lasting piece of artwork then this is your spot. However, if you want someone to 'Xerox' a design you printed offline onto your body as is, then you should probably look elsewhere. Read Less

Went yesterday to get a new tattoo. Hadn't been in a while. I had meet Jim Adams last week to talk about design ideas and set an appointment Arrived yesterday, Jim had a number of ideas to show me. Very happy with my experience here!! Eight of my family members came here (booked way in advance) and got matching tattoos by Jim. He was amazing and we all left VERY happy with our new tats. The whole shop itself was great- clean, the guy at the front desk (forgot his name sorry!) was patient and accommodating considering our group took up the whole upstairs waiting room and we were there for over 5hours. For half the group it was their first tattoo and Jim did a great job explaining what to expect and aftercare to each and every one of us. Everything about this place is top notch! I'm no stranger to getting tattoos, as I've had 7 total, and will say if you are getting your first tattoo bear in mind YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and THIS IS ON YOUR BODY FOREVER! Ok, with that said, this was the reason I was coming here, as I was having a tattoo covered up that was actually touched up once before. No matter what I did to it, it still was huge and ugly and I thought it would be a constant reminder of a mistake I made. To help you understand the perspective I was coming from, I needed A) to cover up a huge tattoo B) someone that could do fine feather work C) desired a true piece of art on my body D) had to resonate with the artist and facility I would be giving my hard earned money for. I found that and more with this place, right from the first phone call, the receptionist was warm and friendly, and motivated me to want to check this place out after seeing Kelly Greens amazing work on instagram (kellygreentattoo or kellygreentattoos I think?).There are tattoo artists, and then there are Artists. Kelly Green, is a true artist!Kelly, unlike most tattoo artists returned my email very shortly. She is very busy, trust me, but she is very organized and professional. She actually took the time to have a REAL consultation and actually asked me questions, wrote down notes, and had a piece of work available prior to my appointment to pin point the design. She wasn't wierd about showing me the sketches either like some places are.Mind you,  everyone says thier place is the best, but you don't judge a tattoo place on location, you judge by artist. I had declined other tattoo artists because I didn't feel in my heart thier work was to the quality of Kellys, and others were straight up not confident enough for the challenge of covering up such a nightmare tattoo.Not only was she not afraid, but was up to the challenge and was completely confident and awesome to work with!The entire culture there is a huge family! Everyone cares about each other and there is great energy there, I started to get to know the other artists like Greg and Stretch just from them being pleasant and friendly. I couldn't be more happy with my tattoo cover up! The artists @Nautilus are true professionals both as artists and in business. Recently moving from SoCal I was looking for someone to help build my sleeve once I left the Marine Corps. Spending a couple weeks looking around, I chose Rob F....when you enter the shop you don't get a douchebag vibe like you do in almost every other shop because @Nautilus their talent & professionalism speaks for itself...Rob was my choice because he doesn't stick to a specific style of tattoo. me and my wife to go Nautilus for all of our tattoos, big or small. we love this shop. it's a friendly environment with a comfortable vibe. everyone here is super open to any ideas and style. the waiting room isn't very large but neither is the shop itself. it's a very clean shop with a lot of examples of all the artists work hanging up on the walls and shorts avaliable to buy. I am amazed there aren't more reviews for Nautilus because they are as good as it gets. The shop is bright & clean, the walls are adorned with amazing artwork by all of the artists - absolutely top notch. The staff is friendly, inviting, knowledgeable & most importantly TALENTED. Every artist is passionate about their art & I have seen nothing less then pride in each & every piece. After allot of hesitancy due to some previous bad experiences with other shops in CT, I visited for a coverup about 3 years ago with Stretch. I now could never imagine going elsewhere. He is a true artist & every piece he has created for me (a full custom shop) has been amazing & far exceeded every expectation I had. Fast forward to today, I can honestly tell you every tattoo I have gotten is just a living, breathing piece of art. If you are planning to get a tattoo & are looking for a shop with talent & an eye for detail,  Nautilus is where it's at.
