Was in CT for the day and decided to do a walk in with my friend to get a small tattoo, and I would highly recommend Flat's Tattoos. They took the time to work with us, we were helped almost immediately, and were very sensitive to the nerves of a first-time tattooee (my friend's first, my second one but first time here). I really appreciated how our tattoo artist took the time to double check everything and make sure we were clear on how to do after-care/who to get in touch with should we have any further questions. Brian was the tattoo artist who did our tattoos if you want someone specific, but all of the people I saw working were very sweet too! This review is based on communication and customer service. I can't rate the work done because they couldn't perform it. I called the afternoon before to ask if I needed an appointment for a piercing for my daughter the next day. I was told I did not because piercings are pretty quick, and that any time the next day was fine. My wife, daughter and I arrived at 12:30 (they open at noon) and went to the rear entrance near the only handicapped parking space. A sign on the door sent us to the front entrance, where I found two high steps confronting my wheelchair. I hobbled up while my wife managed to get my chair up the stairs and inside. That's when we found out the piercing person wouldn't be in until 2 or 2:30. No apology, no acknowledgment of our difficulty getting in, no offer of an appointment. Just a shrug. I've had a a couple bad tattoo experiences and I'm so lucky to have found Flats! They not only have given me some amazing tattoos but they have also fixed my awful ones from previous "artists". Nick is my go to guy there though. Love the work he does. Read Less

Clean, professional, cool vibe. My friend and I had Nick Coon do gorgeous matching pieces in March; he explained all the steps he was taking and made sure comfort was priority. Awesome place! I've always come here for my piercings and can now definitely recommend it for tattoos as well. 5 starts isn't enough for Nick! He has done all 4 (5 as of next week) of my tatoos. He was referred to me by a friend and I trusted him from the beginning. He has been patient when the tatoo has been emotional (My tatoo memorializing my mom passing and updating my dad's tatoo). He's been honest when ideas I've had will look muddled and blotchy (fingerprints). He's a true professional and makes even the newbie feel at ease in his chair. Got my first tattoo done by Holli at The Massachusetts Tattoo and Arts Festiva, I have to say I was genuinely impressed with the people at Flats. Coming to the convention looking to get my first tattoo was overwhelming, but Flats went out of their way to talk with and help with my tattoo idea at the festival and in the end had me sold on an awesom Idea. At first I was a little intimidated by the price and size of the tattoo but ultimately left it in Holli's hands, and it was ...well worth the time and money. After getting in the chair Holli chatted me up and put any worries I had at rest and after a while the experience became almost relaxing. Time flew by and before I knew it I had a badass, golden tooth, (still love that Idea, thanks Holli) Panther dagger tattoo. So I go in for a quote and to see if they can do a drawing for me and get the tattoo done as a walk in....He asked what I wanted...showed him my ideas and that I wanted it on my hand....He then proceeded to tell me that they won't do any tattoos on hands unless I'm covered in them...(His exact words!!!!) Now mind you, it was chilly out and I had a jacket & scarf on...How did he even know if I was or wasn't covered in tattoos? He didn't ask me if I had any other tattoos... I asked him why and he said it was store policy... This place seems to be judging people as they walk in....Well judge away, cause I walked out and went to 12 Tattoos and GOT IT DONE! and she did a BEAUTIFUL job! 1 star is too much for your ignorance!
