Well the initial experience and encounter was awful enough that I didn't even get any work done here truthfully. I have never given a review on a place where I haven't received a product or service but this is definitely one worth publicizing.    I entered the shop And informed the dude that I have recently drop the shop and artist that I was with for over 7 years and 20 sumthin Tattoos. I informed him that I was shopping around for a new artist to complete the work that I still wanted to have done. He responded as if I offended him and said "I'm not sure that's a great way to introduce yourself into a new Tattoo shop I don't even know what you mean by shopping for a new artist." Haha I mean hell I've been a loyal client to another artist who has ruined the artist/client relationship and now I'm looking for a new artist what's so hard to understand? I suppose they don't have many people researching before hiring them to permanently decorate their bodies. Anyhow I explained briefly again that I was looking for a new artist and again asked to see portfolios. Dude was apparently still offended that I wanted to pre judge before  hiring someone. He copped an attitude and pointed to the flash art posters on the wall and said well I still don't know what you mean by hiring an artist to work on you but you can look through those. This spot is probably the perfect shop for a first time Tattoo client but if you are well Tattooed and the work you are used to getting is from a several award winning type of artist then don't stop here. My daughter has been wanting her cartilage pierced and her first tattoo forever. Her dad and I decided to get it for her finally. I did a lot of research and decided on Epiphany Tattoo. This super clean and well lit shop near Dry Dock on Hampden is stocked with a great selection of body jewelry. They've got books and tons of pictures of tattoos on the wall. We walked in at 3 and I explained what we wanted and was asked to come back at 6. Dirk was very friendly and approachable, but he was the only guy in the shop and there were people ahead of us. We arrived at 6 and Dirk asked if we minded if Gordon did her tattoo because he was still with a client. We decided it would be fine. Gordon was SO nice and listened to what she wanted and totally accommodated us as neurotic parents and made us feel so at ease. He was great with my daughter and made her feel comfortable as well. He was done quick! And after fixing a mistake that WE made on the original drawing, the tattoo was perfect. I highly suggest this shop. I walked in this afternoon and showed Dirk a picture and within an hour I was walking out with my first tattoo! They were super friendly and it was a great experience. I couldn't love it any more. Gordon did my newest tattoo. He was amazing! Took his time to place the outline on my arm, kept double checking his work before he started the tattoo. Did color, very vibrant!! Even stayed after a little bit to finish up the tattoo instead of rushing through to get home. The pricing of his tattoos are very fair too. I went in needing to do a "what was I thinking" cover. Dirk was AWESOME! His ideas, the way he manipulated and improvised the new design over the tat needing the cover, was amazing. My review is not only about James but also about dirk, a couple years back I had James rock out some work on my trench and my wrist. Still to this day James has been the only person to make white stick in my skin and the color is just as vibrant as the day they were done. He made it a blast to work with him and was calming in two really shitty spots to get inked up. Dirk is a bad ass and also made it fun, he hung around and talked with me and the thing that I respect the most is he let his artist DO WHAT HE DOES!!!! A lot of tattoo shops could take notes. Super clean shop, tons of the artists works and every artist's booth shows what kind of style they're about. At this point i won't go any other place to get ink pushed into the ol dermis. Horrible, he did my tattoo and I loved it, sent my wife over and the more people that look at it it's horrible. Ya seriously can't do 2 periods only 1, the cross on the hat is not centered. I just saw Dirk, who helped me choose a place to pierce my cartilage along the ridge of my ears. Not only was I lucky enough to be seen right away, I was lucky enough to get a total professional to pierce me when I just came into the first place I saw on a whim. The process was clean, quick, for the most part painless, and I couldn't be happier with the placement. He also educated me very well about my options around the piercing without presumption. This place is shiz!! I'll definitely be back for more ink! My husband and I walked in and were able to get a little ink done in no time. Vinny did my two, a semi-colon dragonfly and an infinity symbol and James did my husbands memorial tat for his mom, a tribal butterfly with mom above it. My friend and I randomly decided to get tattoos on a Saturday and we were able to get appointments with James. He was AWESOME!!! He was able to draw up a really cool naval ship anchor for my friends departed father and it was exactly what she wanted. For me...... This was my very first tattoo (Eeeeek). James was able to take the design of tribal sea turtles that I had picked out. He helped me modify the design to fit the area that I wanted them and also helped me add the personal touch them that I had in mind. My turtles are perfect. He was so nice and talked to me the entire time, which helped to distract me from any pain.He gave me some tips prior to actually getting the tattoos and told me how to care for it while it was healing. My tattoo wasn't sore or anything the day after. He did such a great job and I would totally recommend James to everyone!!! Read Less

I was wanting a cover up on my wrist for about 4 years now and I wasn't sure where to go. I looked up on yelp saw this place had great reviews so I walked in and checked it out myself. Jim was my tattoo artist and he also help me come up with an idea for a nice cover up. We decided to do a stormtrooper/candy skull idea and it came out better than I could have imagined! I was so nervous getting the tattoo but Jim was there to talk to me through out the whole time and it got my mind off the pain. He is incredibly wonderful at what he does. I came in last week, spoke to James about what I wanted (Joker tattoo). We discussed the size, color and cost. I made the appointment and came in yesterday. I can't tell you how important it is to me that when I make an appointment that when I arrive they are ready for me, James was. He was ready and prepared.  This was almost a 3 1/2 hour tattoo and he did a great job. This morning I was expecting to be very sore from all the color put on me but there was very minimal swelling.  This is my third tattoo and my first with so much ink and I am very impressed and pleased with the results. On a whim my best friend and I decided that we needed some more body modification. I called on a Saturday and Jim got us in on Sunday.Jim drew up my tattoo design and got to work on it. I went to Epiphany a few time in the last few weeks to explore getting my first tattoo.  James was very helpful to me explaining the entire process and how it works.  He helped me to design a tattoo that met what I was looking for in meaning but also something very stylish as well.I went and had the tattoo done Saturday evening.  He was great!  Amazing workmanship and the very confident in his work.  He took the time to explain the after care instructions and how to make sure that I took care of it based on the environment I work in.I would recommend them to any one that is even considering a tattoo. My experience at Epiphany was amazing! They were willing to work with me, despite some health issues I have, and I felt extremely comfortable talking to Dirk about the design I had thought up. He added a bit to it and it's now an amazing piece of art.
