The atmosphere at Heart N Soul is perfect. They have the best decor with artwork and horror memorbile. I went to Bobby for my arm tattoo. I didn't drink water or eat that day which caused me to pass out in the few minutes of the tattoo. Everyone there helped me to feel better with water and sugar. My arm turned out amazing, better then I could imagine. He took a picture and turned it into a perfect piece unique to me. Just got a percing redone in my upper ear from years of having it closed. After reading reviews on here, I decided to check the place out, and was not disapointed. No hiding of chairs (curtains for privacy work were pulled back), and you can see all equipment and where it was cleaned. Jake was super awesome about my closed percing, and was super sweet about how to handle the virtually painless process. He also provided a two sided sheet of cleaning instructions and the offer of in person aid of help if things got questionable. Aside from the clean shop, clean work areas, and EXCELENT customer service, what sold me on this shop was the coffin front desk. Edit: My percing came off in the shower and Jake answered my concerns over the phone, and gave instructions till he could put the percing back in properly. He was above awesome about the whole thing. I've come here twice now for piercings (nose, cartilage) and Jake is great. Today I went in for my second tattoo, having got my first in Sacramento. Chris was great with his advice to make my second tattoo really stand out better, was concerned with how I was doing as he worked, and just did a gorgeous job. I researched a nostril piercing. Watch a few videos and without direction instinctively just picked this place!!! Boy was my instinct right on ...as always anyways. I got a worry and fear free piercing and it didnt hurt at all. Npt even the pressure he said i might feel when the jewelry went in!!! He gave me instructions for cleaning and talked to me about it. I feel much assured to return for questions if i have any. If you're thinking about a nostril piercing i can recommend this place. I'm not sure if the guy with the corroded teeth is the owner, but I went to get a nose hoop put in & he asked me "what gauge" I previously had, I had told him I got my nose pierced almost 14 years ago, I don't remember what gauge and his response was "it doesn't matter, you should know" to my astonishment, I just let it go and let him proceed. Then, he tried jabbing the hoop in my nose and my reflexes kicked in and I grabbed his arm. He goes "i've been doing this for 19 years either you let me do it or grab my arm and not let me finish" in the most rude and ignorant manner. I didn't even let him finish. I asked how much it cost and was giving him the money but he refused. How chivalrous after he insulted me repeatedly. I am absolutely appalled.Never have I experienced such utter disrespect from anyone, let alone someone who is suppose to be a business man and a "professional" tattoo artist. I am a 20 year old young lady, and CHRIS the tattoo artist, an arrogant, possibly a meth addict, had the audacity to cuss at me and my mom because she accidentally forgot to send him one of the pictures that would be apart of my tattoo.Not to mention, HE CANCELLED 1 HOUR in advance for our original appointment. I'll be going to this shop more often. Jake did an amazing job with piercing me (The piercings are healing pretty well but they did bleed a bit which is common for nipple piercings. They stopped bleeding within the third day.) and when I went to talk to the tattoo artist Chris about a cover up for my bad snake tattoo from another tattoo artist, He said not to worry about how it'll cover and to just send him picture ideas of what I want (which I still need to do).It just feels like home to me which is a first for me to even say that about a shop. I can't even give a rating. I've tried twice now to go into this shop to look at their artwork and possibly get a piercing since my coworker raves about their tattoo work and their reviews are good on this site. The first time, about 2 months ago, was just after they opened and the man & woman inside were eating lunch and barely acknowledged my entrance and seemed annoyed when I started asking questions. It was a very uncomfortable vibe so I just left. My coworker swore up and down how great they were and suggested I give it another shot so today I tried again but went a couple hours later to avoid the lunch situation. I showed up at 2pm to find the doors locked and a sign saying be back at 2:30pm even though they list their hours as 12 to 7 with no mention of closing mid-day. So how do I rate this business? Unprofessional is really the only thing I can say at this point. My experience so far hasn't left me with any desire to give this business any more of my time. Read Less

i got my nose pierced here about a week ago...i have been to a few piercing and tattoo shops in my life and this one is one of my favorites. it was a little hard to find, because it was behind or technically next to another place, but when i went in it had the atmosphere that you are supposed to feel inside a tattoo shop. there were two people in front of me but the piercer worked very fast. he was really nice and even made jokes to make me feel more comfortable. he was great. there was also a girl in there getting a tattoo and she seemed to be having a good time as well. I've gotten my nose and belly button pierced here.  The shop is clean and has a nice bright and open feel.  I don't know about the tattoo side of things but the piercer has been very friendly,  informative and efficient.  He explained everything before it was happening and from what I could pick up was very sterile. :) Read Less

I'm from Reno. I was just visiting some family. During our pedicures we decided to go get some piercings. My cousin and my aunt got their noses re pierced and I got my belly button re pierced. The first time was pretty awful. She pierced it crooked and it got extremely infected so I had to take it out. This time he was really fast and ALMOST painless. It was a lot better than the last experience. I didn't get any ink although it was tempting, but I have a super awesome chest piece planned in April at Marked Studios. If I'm ever in the area again I may consider here to work on my sleeve. The darn thing has been unfinished for 2 years. The shop was pretty well lit. Typical tattoo shop. The music wasn't really loud or inappropriate. We'll see how my piercing holds out in a few months. So far I would recommend these guys. They were surprisingly open on a Sunday which was nice and we were in and out within 20 mins. It was a little odd that the belly button piercing was cheaper than the nose ring. Read Less

Such a clean and nice environment! Going in a tattoo shop can be difficult because you never know what your going to get, but this place very quiet and peaceful unlike others i have been in! I first went here for a piercing and the piercing guy was awesome! I have since been back for a second one.  I also went back and got a tattoo done by Chris. He was very friendly and made the whole process so easy! I would say they have decent prices, you pay for what you get and they do awesome work so its worth it! Called Chris on a Wednesday to see if he has time to do a small wrist tattoo for me on Saturday. I was only in town that day and Chris was super very accommodating. Shop was open when I got there (early) and Jake and Chris were in good spirits. My tattoo was super easy for Chris but he still took time to make me feel comfortable , show me his sterilized equipment and crack several jokes. All in all I had a great hour that included approximately 4 seconds of intense pain. I love my little hourglass and plan to come back next year to have some color added to an older tattoo. Read Less

My wife and daughter have been clients of Zoey for years for both body piercing and ink. Two years ago I joined them with my first tattoo, and earlier this year I had a second.Why do we travel 40 miles to her business when we have several places we can go locally? Simply because she and Jake and their staff are the best at what they do. So I'm from Hell-A and I know my way around legit tattooing establishments.  When I moved up here, in search of some new ink, I read reviews, got some suggestions from friends, and toured the shops in Yuba Shitty.  Everyone told me to go to grass valley, anyone worth anything would be booked up here and everything else was crap.I decided to see for myself and went into a few places.  Some were rad, but not my style.  Some were dirty looking and full of tweakers (no thanks), and one I went to with my mother-in-law for her tattoo (and they WAY overcharged her for really shitty work.. also no thanks).  I finally stumbled upon Heart & Soul tattoo as the last place I was going to check out before I gave up and looked in Chico or Grass Valley.   I walked in and was immediately greeted by Bobby, who would end up doing my tattoo, but I'm getting ahead of myself.  I told him what I wanted and he showed me his work, and I liked his style, just what I had in mind.  There wasn't anyone else in the shop when I went in, but it was clean and had a nice feel to it (trust your instincts on this one). He agreed to draw something up for me.He called me with my design on the day he said he would; I checked it out and loved it.I went in and got it done a few days later and I couldn't have had a better experience.  He took his time and it shows in the detail.  Even lines, great shading..This is my 6th tattoo, and the first big piece, and I am stoked with both the quality of the work and the experience.  Great work, Bobby!  Great artwork, quality line-work and I think I got a great price for the 5 hours that I was in there.  Plus they put up with me dragging my kid with me.When I was getting inked, a few more tattoo artists and piercers came in and they all seemed pretty cool.  I got my side piece done and now I'll be back for my sleeves.  I am stoked I found a cool place to get work done.  I can't comment on anyone else in the shop, but Bobby does great work.When you're reading reviews for tattoos, check out the pictures.  It will tell you a lot.  A saw someone raving about tattoos from another shop and had these shitty flower sleeves.  It looked like it was done by a kid.  The chick might have been stoked, but the work sucked.
