This place has terrible customer service. I was trying to get another tattoo done here with Mikey. Initially Mikey said he would within 6 weeks. 8 weeks went by and I didn't hear from him. I hit him up to see his availability, he said he won't have openings for another 6 weeks. I said okay, to pencil me in. Terrible service! One of the artist by the name of Pony Wave set a consultation with me and didn't even have the decency to sit me down and be professional about this. I have been a fan of yours since you very first emerged onto the public scene on Miami Ink as well as your own show, I never mussed any episodes, and still watch when you rerun on FM network. I have Cerebral Palsy and have always been self conscious about how I appear to the world, and you inspired to be a strong independent woman such as... yourself, after knowing or seeing just a sliver of your journey. Today, I went to Sephora for the very first time with the plan of purchasing your cosmetics, because I finally could. The sales girl there kept questioning why I was only interested in your products and tried to dissuade me to purchase them. I was the only one in the store, and when I went to check out, she announces to the other girls working there that "the girl will only buy Kat Von D, I guess you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink." The rest of the girls laughed. Already self conscious about my appearance, I took that as she was referring to me as a/the horse. and I flat out told them that I would be reporting them, and that if you are going to make comments about a person, please at least wait til they're out of the store, and that it was pretty dumb that they would openly do such things on camera. I really hope that you get this message, and know that Sephora has lost me as a customer, for trashing me, and trying to get me to buy other than your products and in turn running your reputation through the mud. We went there as walk in costumers we where served quick , but since they know we where out of state. They charged us for 2 little "LA" letters $ 200 each , I mean our tattoos are not bigger then a 25 cent size ! So I would not recommend the shop ! You pay for the name & they fool you !Very sad!!! We arrived from out of state with the intentions of getting tattooed by Khoi for personal reasons. we had an appointment for Monday as soon as they opened. We arrived and were instantly greeted by Ryan at the desk. He was very friendly. Khoi ended up doing 4 tattoos total on Monday. we were there until close. Khoi knew or reason for being there and made the situation very comfortable. he was so nice and polite and is obviously very proud to be a dad! he was engaged the entire time we were there. On another note...poor Ryan had so much to deal with.... from using Google translator to speaking to a translator over the phone. he handled it all very professionally and was polite to everyone. What can I say about my experience with my tattoo artist, and with this tattoo shop in general? I can say one thing only. Everything and everyone exceeded all my expectations! I am 200% satisfied customer. I am incredibly happy with the amazing artwork that has been done on me( much better than I expect...ed and imagined it will be), and with everyone who works there. Went there yesterday to have a look and pick up some t shirts and was disappointed! The shop manager Greg is very unwelcoming and rude. Their was some more customers in there and he was the same with them. If he only wants bookings for $$$$$ tattoos then shouldn't have merch for sale! I know the LA Ink show was obviously glamourised for the tv but it's know where even close and quite the opposite. Really doesn't help with the shop manager being the face as walk in! Read Less

We came to LA on vacation last week. My husband was really wanting to go to Kat's shop. He wanted to try to make an appointment with her, but knew it wouldn't be possible due to her being backed up from what we had read. He still wanted to go. We got there and the place was empty besides one girl looking at portfolios. There were two guys working there but they were really just chit chatting. We stood there for about 20 minutes staring at them until they rudely acknowledged our presence and then rudely answered his inquiry about getting a tattoo. So then my husband asked to buy a tshirt that they sell. That was also an annoyance to these guys. Then a girl walked in and asked about getting a tattoo the next day as a walk in or an appointment. I have been there twice and had the same experience, except the last time was worse. I have never met Kat Von D, but if she is anything like the people that work for her I hope I never do. I wish I would I've read some of the reviews about this place before spending my time driving there all the way from Oceanside. I am glad I did not spend any money at this stink hole. The A...hole at the front desk was a complete idiot, not willing to hear what I wanted and making all kind of stupid, idiotic comments. It was around 12.00 PM when I arrived there, so probably this guy was going cold turkey. I have tried and tried to get in with Kat to get a tattoo done, a portrait of my mother, who passed away 2 years ago. Not only did she refuse to see me, she was arguing with other staff members in front of customers, and just generally seemed like she thought her $h1t didn't stink. If you ask me, they do have alot of (overpriced) talent in the shop, and it's a shame that people who go to this place because of the ""hype"" of a TV show line this brat's pockets with their hard earned money. okay so i went with my sister to get a heartagram tattooed, we went to a bunch of places around L.A, all were really expensive, so we decided to stop by high voltage. They have a $200 dollar minimum(dude are you serious?) and they were pretty rude too, i mean yeah the shop has their own t.v show and everything but that doesn't make you better than everyone else. The draw to High Voltage Tattoo is obviously Kat Von D and her show LA Ink. Here is my experience: I went to book an appointment at another tattoo shop in Silverlake - the artist there designed the T-Shirt for Musink. My long time friend went with me. He had wanted to get a tattoo as well, but this artist was booked a month in advance. This tattoo was about 2.5" x 2.5". So, since he wanted to get it that day and not wait, we went to another shop in the area - the answer was the same - no we are busy for the day, come back another time. Well, we finally decided to go to High Voltage - we are LA natives and what better way to connect than getting a tattoo there! We called ahead of time to see if it was going to be possible - we were told to come in and see if my friend could be squeezed in. When we arrived, it was definitely packed! My friend pushed through the crowd and put in his request. Pixie was not there - but oh well. Dennis H. took on my friend's tattoo - he was almost out, but took the time to do it. It took about half hour with prepping and all. But they did charge $300 even though it was only half hour. Dennis was awesome and the orange ink he used for the piece was brilliant - I asked where he got it, and he said its a private source. In the end my friend was happy with his tattoo and his claim to having it done at High Voltage by a top notch artist the same day! Read Less

I had a great experience at High Voltage. Yeah, Kat was there and there were huge crowds. But what do you expect when the shop basically has it's own show. I was up in LA for 1 day (I wsa out from Kansas for a conference in Long Beach) to see my in-laws and had planned ahead of time to make the trip to the shop. I had an image in mind and I came to LA prepared with my design. I had to go back and forth to the shop several times in order to talk with an artist that might be able to get me in that day and fighting the crowds that were there for merch or were standing around staring at Kat and Bam was annoying. However, Pixie was very nice and worked with me on when to come back to talk with an artist. They were able to get me in with an artist that day. Yes, it was pricey. Yes, they wanted $100 cash deposit. Yes, they are cash only when it comes to tattoos. And yes, there are other tattoo shops in LA with great reputations and great artists. But I wouldn't trade my tattoo or my experience for the world. C'mon. I'm a Kansas girl. I met Kat, Pixie, Hannah, and Bam Margera was in the shop. Once Kat and Bam Margera left, the crowds thinned out immediately.One of the other artists in the shop, but not on the show, Nate Fiero, did my piece. I got a 3.5" x 2", multicolor, multishaded, very detailed piece for $400. I don't think I could've gotten the same piece done locally with the same results. Nate was very thorough, he did his research on the piece to expand on what I brought it, and was very friendly. Yes, even I know $400 pricey for a piece that size. However, if you're going to High Voltage, odds are you're going partly for the experience of the "LA Ink" phenomenon. Not saying all people do, but I know that was part of my draw. So between the gorgeous ink Nate gave me and just the sheer experience of it, I definitely recommend High Voltage. Read Less
