It's too bad the piercer reviews are dragging this place down. I'm sure Christian is a nice guy, but his  piercings have a few problems. They go in at a SEVERE angle, not straight through. (This leads to poor healing.) They are crooked and off-center. (Visually unattractive.) His piercings HURT more than other piercers.'  I've posted a photo of one of them.This piercer needs training, and I fully agree with all the the first reviewer said about the "vibe;" I was so distracted I realized later that he never even rang up the sale, just took the cash with no receipt. Try Industrial Tattoo in Berkeley, they were amazing and fixed my daughter's ear piercings. She's young and this was pretty tough on her, said the woman at Industrial's barely hurt and they are gorgeously done. And yes, an earlobe is pretty straightforward as far as piercings go. You can't do it straight? Sigh. I usually don't ever leave a negative comment because it's so unpleasant but ... I wish I had seen the other comments and I hope this helps someone avoid a hard situation. Why oh why did I miss the one reviewer's comment? It would have helped me avoid this troubling situation. I guess it's time I've left a review.I've been going to Matt since I was 19 so a good 6 years now. I'm working on a sleeve and have 5 other pieces done by him so needless to say I obviously love his work.He knows exactly how to make my tattoo ideas into an actual tattoo I throw ideas at him and he pieces them together. He's one of the few artist that I believe can do any style of tattooing. This shop is great! The artists are friendly, the shop is very clean and they do good work. Really my review is for Matt, he is the artist who has done all my work and I will continue to see him for all my future pieces. He's super chill and easy going and does an outstanding job. "Let's get a tattoo today!" My bf exclaimed! Knowing that I've been wanting to get one for a while now, my reply? "Really, now, today?"And before I could think twice, we were on a mission! It was a lazy Saturday morning, and we were in no hurry... So after a couple calls and look ups on YELP... We found ourselves here. Walked in & was greeted by Jeremy. Very friendly and professional. The shop was good size. Three artists were working on different clients. Plenty of artwork and mirrors hung on the walls.This wasn't my bf's first tattoo... But it was mine! I was nervous! Not knowing what to expect was the worst part! I wanted something small, but meaningful. I decided on the Konji symbol for "love."  After the inside of my right ankle was prepped, Jeremy took his time to place the computer generated symbol exactly where I wanted it. "Okay, you ready?" He asked before he started. Holding my hand, my bf was very supportive. Once he started.... I thought, "huh, is that it?" Ok, I measure my pain on a scale of 0-10... (Yes, I'm a nurse!) This was an average of 2-3 most of the time. At times, it was about 4-5. But it was very manageable. I figured it had to be. I mean, people keep coming back for more! After about 15 minutes he was done! My tattoo cherry was finally popped! My bf was next. He was doing a cover up on his left hand. He too, decided on a Konji, his was for "Tranquility." He has very large hands... He's a big guy! About the same size of the one on my ankle, he put on his hand. We were both very pleased. Jeremy gave us some "after care" instructions along with some ointment to apply. They only take cash. So be prepared for that. Minimum charge is $80. Tips are appreciated! Anchor tattoo is beyond incredible. Easy going environment and the artists are awesome. I got an addition to a quote I previously had tattooed. Matt did the Pocahontas artwork with whimsical leaves blowing in the wind. I gave him an idea and he brought it to life even better than I could imagine on my own. He even got creative and added a "Hidden Mickey" in the leaves. It was an awesome experience and Matt totally worked with me through my discomfort, allowing me to take breaks to walk around the shop and grab water to ensure my experience was comfortable. Anchor Tattoo is by far the best tattoo shop I've been to. I have had several other tattoos by different artists and hands down Matt at Anchor is the best.  I was lucky enough to get a walk in on a Saturday after someone cancelled (thank you whoever that was) with Matt. I told him what I wanted and showed him some images and he went to the back and did his thing. He came back and asked questions seeing  if he could add his flare which was awesome! He really took his time drawing it out exactly how I wanted it.  He made me super comfortable while tattooing and was super chill.  The end result was stunning and such a great price. I dropped in to schedule an appointment to get my septum pierced. No one was at the desk and I had to wait a bit until someone showed up. I had to come back in the evening.   So I show up at the time we agreed on earlier, and the piercer was late because he was coming back from the gym. He walked in holding Chinese take out. Anyways, the piercer was a nice guy. He pierced me with a 16g and slid in a captive ring, but he lost the bead trying to put it in. He opened up another package containing another ring and took the bead from that one. The process was clean and professional.   I'm healed up now, and I'm thinking about going back for an Industrial. My comment is on the piercer.I should have known better than to let myself get a piercing from someone who doesn't even ask for ID--but alas this didn't occur to me until after. This was the first red flag. Next, he gave me a really weird vibe... Which I could have lived with no negative against him, if he'd done a good job.It all seemed legit, initially, apart from not asking for ID or even requiring any paperwork/consent/agreement, etc... i all seemed clean, autoclaved, vacuum sealed, etc.Simply, he did an awful job. I heal like Wolverine and NEVER have problems with my piercings. I take great care of them. Those being said... I had to take it out because it just never settled and healed properly. I believe it was due to being placed TOTALLY CROOKED. It was fairly centered from the outside, but angled in and rubbed the flat back edge on my gum... big no no. I absolutely love Anchor Tattoo. I have 95% of my tattoo done by Matt the ones he didn't do I'm going to even have him go over because I want all of mine done by him. The shop is super clean all the time and every one that works there is really really nice I love it there I always feel really comfortable while I'm there. I would have to say that Anchor Tattoo and the guys of Anchor Tattoo are a great group. The staff is super cool and there work is hands down some of the best work I have ever seen. Anthony "Ant" has done my last 3 tattoos and I am very happy with each one that he has done for me. I get compliments all the time on my tattoos. I am said to say that my family and I are moving and we will have to find another artist. Wish we could just take Ant with us. Many of my friends have gotten tattoos done at this shop and most have been done by Ant. But whoever you decide to choose as your artist you can not go wrong my going to Anchor Tattoo. Read Less

Anchor wasn't my first choice.. in fact, one of the other parlors in town suggested I give these guys a visit.  The shop is currently undergoing an upgrade to their digital footprint and I was truly going into my tattoo with blind faith.  Holy shit did I luck out!  All kidding aside, the work from this shop is truly top notch!I've been through quite a few tattoo parlors across the country and have seen some of the shittiest and some of the best looking shops.  Anchor definitely nestles itself towards the top of that list.  They've got a minimal amount of flash displayed on their walls, mostly all personal works.  The shop boasts 8 tattoo stations with 4 artists... definitely enough room for one to move around!  The best part of the shop is the dynamic of the artists and the interaction between them and the customers!  I went in for a 7-hour tattoo broken into 2 sessions, but besides a few moments of silence, the shop was either filled with music, banter among patrons and artists and laughter.I think I'm forgetting something.... oh shit, the art work!  As I've said, I went in blindly only to sit for 7 hours and ended up walking out with a bad ass piece of work to finish my sleeve.  I'm looking forward to another session with these guys!
