I told Alex what I wanted done. He said it could be done in two sessions. He charged me $350 for the first session as it was a very large tattoo. The first session was supposed to be for line work, and the second session was supposed to be to put in color. At the end of the first session he got tired and wanted to stop. So the line work did not get finished. He said he would still have time to finish all of it in the second session. At the end of the second session he ran out of time to finish the whole thing. Only about half has color in it. He still charged me $350.
On top of that he is very heavy handed. The healing process is terrible and painful. If you are a person of color, I would not recommend getting color tattoos by Alex. The color does not heal right or show up after it heals. Alex tries to beat it into you thinking that’s how it’s going to show up better, but it does more damage than good. Two weeks later and I still have pain in the area. I believe nerve damage was done. It tingles in lower layers of my skin, and still hurts to stretch it or lay on it. His after care instructions are for a tattoo that has been done correctly with minimal tissue damage.
Because he is heavy handed the tissue damage was severe and deep. The plasma response was much like having second degree burn and was very thick and caked. The plasma would not come off easily which produced scabbing that caused the skin to heal with distortions in the color. In some areas of the tattoo where there was a lot of color before all the plasma started, it looks like it returned to almost the original color of my skin. Some of the black line work had blow outs. It looks fuzzy like an old tattoo. So definitely he is too heavy handed, and does not know what he is doing.
Alex is not professional at all. While getting tatted he made references to my butt being too big, and kept saying it was getting in the way. He also made comments about being so close to my “cooch” as he called it, that it was distracting him. He did not give me anything to cover up myself for privacy or to keep my clothes from getting ink on it. Also there is no privacy from people walking by while more than half of my body is exposed to be worked on. After all that and I still have to heal up completely before finding someone else to finish this tattoo. Not worth the pain, the money, or any of it.

This shop used to be better some years back. But the past year when I've gone in, there's never anyone in the front. You're there waiting half an hour for service or they don't even notice you at all...
This shop used to be better some years back. But the past year when I've gone in, there's never anyone in the front. You're there waiting half an hour for service or they don't even notice you at all or they might be in the back smoking. Then they don't have any openings so on top of waiting you have to wait for another day to come back again. If you want a place that has enough tattoo artists on duty to tattoo you, this is the wrong spot.

I recently decided to get my first tattoo in honor of a very special person. My artist was Tony Silva. He was so awesome !!! Helped me design and personalize it beautifully. He kept asking me if I was okay during it. The pain was mimimal and now 4 days out, there is no scabbing or any soreness. I can only thank Tony as an awesome artist !!!! I will make sure to tell anyone wanting a great tattoo to go there and make sure they ask for him

Let me just start by saying I've had the best experience here. I got my first tattoo here by Jesse & it was easy and painless. Jesse was super patient with me and kept checking in to make sure I was doing ok considering it was my first tattoo. He let me know how to take care of it & what to expect. Great experience!Since my first experience was great I came back and got my second tattoo by Kenyon (the owner). I got a giraffe on my leg & it turned out great! I couldn't be happier with it. He had given me some suggestions on how the tattoo should lay and he seemed very confident which was very reassuring. He also kept checking in to make sure I wasn't in any pain or had discomfort. The whole tattoo experience for me here was great and would definitely come back for any future tattoos I plan on getting!Tattoo done by Kenyon on my boyfriend (session one- color coming next)

Federal Tattoo is a great place to get a tattoo done. The artists are very clean and experienced with all types of tattoos. I did a walk in on a weekday and was very happy with my experience.My tattoo artist was very nice and patient. He was able to take an image of punjabi script from my phone and copy it exactly on my wrist. I was picky about the size and he printed out many copies of the tattoo until it was the right size. The process itself was very fast (ten minutes) and did not hurt that much. They gave me great aftercare advice and my tattoo healed in about a week. I was able to swim in Mexico easily after 3 weeks. I would definitely come back to get my next tattoo! xo

I love the atmosphere of this shop and how friendly everyone is. I was at the shop last night and decided to get one of Tito's drawings from his flash tattoo page. During the whole process, Tito made me feel hella welcomed so I wouldn't think too much about the pain of the tattoo. He took his time and was very precise with the lifework and shading. This was my first color tattoo so I told Tito to pick whatever colors he thought would look nice. Needless to say, I am extremely happy with the results and will definitely be returning.

Came into the shop with an idea for a small tattoo on the neck. Booked the appointment and left a deposit. For a number of reasons, I changed my mind. So speaking with the owner/artist I was gonna get a barcode (yes super common). He talked me out of it. LoL rather easily too. Agreed finally to just finish up my sleeves on both arms instead and have to say I couldn't be more pleased. I wasn't expecting to sit for 4 hrs but there I was. I'm super grateful that they didn't just try to take my money but rather talked some sense into me and stopped me from what I now see as stupid. My original artist in Canada passed away and so I've been on the hunt for a new artist. I absolutely love the new direction the artist is taking me and I can't wait to return to the Bay Area to complete my tat. Awesome shop and the staff kick ass. Word of advice, if your pretty dead set on a tattoo, have an open mind and frank conversation with your artist. In the end this will help ensure you leave super happy and without regret. No conversation is too personal when your about to let someone permanently mark you for life. I absolutely recommend this place 100%

Unprofessional.My time wasted communicating with this parlor has brought no progress. Physical presence at the parlor was the only way to convey my message, even then I had to wait 20 minutes for a artist to get off his phone.Appointment was scheduled last week for today at 12:00PM. Poor time management on behalf of the parlor lead me to cancelling my half sleeve and move to another parlor. I called the artist and said he would be in the area at 1:00Pm (hour late) it's now 2:28PM (2 1/2 hours late). Totally unprofessional, I scheduled 4 hours of my weekend for this appointment to be wasted. I highly recommend if you were planning on getting a tattoo here at this parlor, do not go to Del.- Disgruntled & Pissed off

Jesse is not only an incredible artist, but is very careful and talented in all of the work he does. Not only have I witnessed him draw, and redraw design after design to get the tattoo just right for the customer, and double and triple check spelling and placement, but I once watched him tattoo without a break until 3am. Furthermore, Del and Sam are great guys who do excellent and clean work. There's always an upbeat and positive attitude at the store, which by the way, is immaculately clean. Overall, the people at federal genuinely care about the work they do and they really love doing it. For me, this little corner shop is a South Bay staple. I'll recommend it til they put my inked ass in the cold hard ground.

Don't trust Matt, I tried getting a tattoo done on my shoulder for a month, contacting him, setting a date to do it, then as I'm on my way he texts me to tell me he cant do it today, "weird stuff happening at the shop." Okay, stuff happens, so I ask to reschedule, and he asks if I can pay 100 more than the previous price. A little shocked at first and unable to pay the new price, I tell him I'll have to save up more and do it later. I save up the money and hit him up; no response for a couple weeks, then he responds and confirms I can pay the new price, he asks about my schedule, I responded right away with my availability and he never responds.

Let me just start by saying I've had the best experience here. I got my first tattoo here by Jesse & it was easy and painless. Jesse was super patient with me and kept checking in to make sure I was doing ok considering it was my first tattoo. He let me know how to take care of it & what to expect. Great experience!Since my first experience was great I came back and got my second tattoo by Kenyon (the owner). I got a giraffe on my leg & it turned out great! I couldn't be happier with it. He had given me some suggestions on how the tattoo should lay and he seemed very confident which was very reassuring. He also kept checking in to make sure I wasn't in any pain or had discomfort. The whole tattoo experience for me here was great and would definitely come back for any future tattoos I plan on getting!Tattoo done by Kenyon on my boyfriend (session one- color coming next)

Great artist at a great price. I love Tony's work. He's my go-to for tattoos. Light hand ,quick . No half ass work. Very homey neighborhood. Parking is no problem. Walkable distance to the mall/food....

Federal Tattoo is a great place to get a tattoo done. The artists are very clean and experienced with all types of tattoos. I did a walk in on a weekday and was very happy with my experience.My tattoo artist was very nice and patient. He was able to take an image of punjabi script from my phone and copy it exactly on my wrist. I was picky about the size and he printed out many copies of the tattoo until it was the right size. The process itself was very fast (ten minutes) and did not hurt that much. They gave me great aftercare advice and my tattoo healed in about a week. I was able to swim in Mexico easily after 3 weeks. I would definitely come back to get my next tattoo! xo

I love the atmosphere of this shop and how friendly everyone is. I was at the shop last night and decided to get one of Tito's drawings from his flash tattoo page. During the whole process, Tito made me feel hella welcomed so I wouldn't think too much about the pain of the tattoo. He took his time and was very precise with the lifework and shading. This was my first color tattoo so I told Tito to pick whatever colors he thought would look nice. Needless to say, I am extremely happy with the results and will definitely be returning.

Came into the shop with an idea for a small tattoo on the neck. Booked the appointment and left a deposit. For a number of reasons, I changed my mind. So speaking with the owner/artist I was gonna get a barcode (yes super common). He talked me out of it. LoL rather easily too. Agreed finally to just finish up my sleeves on both arms instead and have to say I couldn't be more pleased. I wasn't expecting to sit for 4 hrs but there I was. I'm super grateful that they didn't just try to take my money but rather talked some sense into me and stopped me from what I now see as stupid. My original artist in Canada passed away and so I've been on the hunt for a new artist. I absolutely love the new direction the artist is taking me and I can't wait to return to the Bay Area to complete my tat. Awesome shop and the staff kick ass. Word of advice, if your pretty dead set on a tattoo, have an open mind and frank conversation with your artist. In the end this will help ensure you leave super happy and without regret. No conversation is too personal when your about to let someone permanently mark you for life. I absolutely recommend this place 100%

Unprofessional.My time wasted communicating with this parlor has brought no progress. Physical presence at the parlor was the only way to convey my message, even then I had to wait 20 minutes for a artist to get off his phone.Appointment was scheduled last week for today at 12:00PM. Poor time management on behalf of the parlor lead me to cancelling my half sleeve and move to another parlor. I called the artist and said he would be in the area at 1:00Pm (hour late) it's now 2:28PM (2 1/2 hours late). Totally unprofessional, I scheduled 4 hours of my weekend for this appointment to be wasted. I highly recommend if you were planning on getting a tattoo here at this parlor, do not go to Del.- Disgruntled & Pissed off

All of my tattoos are very simple with little color, but each one is special and I am in love with this one, too! Only minus is that they only accept cash-no card.Out of respect for the artist I will not post what he charged, but I feel it was well worth the outcome and very reasonable. *please remember to tip your artists*

Jesse is not only an incredible artist, but is very careful and talented in all of the work he does. Not only have I witnessed him draw, and redraw design after design to get the tattoo just right for the customer, and double and triple check spelling and placement, but I once watched him tattoo without a break until 3am. Furthermore, Del and Sam are great guys who do excellent and clean work. There's always an upbeat and positive attitude at the store, which by the way, is immaculately clean. Overall, the people at federal genuinely care about the work they do and they really love doing it. For me, this little corner shop is a South Bay staple. I'll recommend it til they put my inked ass in the cold hard ground.

Don't trust Matt, I tried getting a tattoo done on my shoulder for a month, contacting him, setting a date to do it, then as I'm on my way he texts me to tell me he cant do it today, "weird stuff happening at the shop." Okay, stuff happens, so I ask to reschedule, and he asks if I can pay 100 more than the previous price. A little shocked at first and unable to pay the new price, I tell him I'll have to save up more and do it later. I save up the money and hit him up; no response for a couple weeks, then he responds and confirms I can pay the new price, he asks about my schedule, I responded right away with my availability and he never responds.
