Dan has done two tattoos for me, one tribal and a japanese style backpiece. I've known him since he was at Strong Tattoo in San Jose. I've had work done on me by two other shops in the past. Dan has done one tat on my arm and the backpiece incorporates/covers up another old tat done by the other 2 shops. What you get with Dan is a honest artist that loves what he does. He will tell you his honest opinion from an artist perspective but is not pushy. It's very comfortable and low pressure talking to him. If your mind is set on what you want done, he will tat it for you, but he will always give you his professional recommendations.What I liked from Dan's portfolio was they are all unique, not a bunch of cookie cutter tattoos. He adds his unique style and flavor to his work. I've seen a few shops and their portfolios show different people with the same exact tats. Not the case with Dan, he's not about mainstream or doing what's popular to make some cash. He totally takes what I gave him and spat back what he saw and believed I wanted. He takes pride in his work and really wants his client/me to enjoy the tats. The shop is small with a welcoming atmosphere. His music is always coo - 70's-90's rock vibe. I have been going to Dan since he was in San Jo and now have five pieces that he's done for me.  I plan on going back when I come up with more ideas.  Dan does great work and you can count on him to get it done right.  This isn't some half-ass street shop that popped up in the trendy tat-boom ala Miami/LA Ink...Dan has been in the business for a long time.  He knows the industry and I would consider him an expert at his trade...analagous to a swordsmith crafting the perfect blade.Rest assured that everything from cleanliness/sterility to intricate artwork will be handled professionally.  Dan is easy to get along with and actually listens to a customer's requests instead of talking over them and swaying the customer towards something that he/she may not want...something that other shops have a tendency to do.  This is a no-BS shop and SR is lucky to have it within it's city limits.  Know that if you go to Name & Blood, you will end up with a quality piece of art that you can be proud to display. Finally this shop is on yelp! It's been open for a few months but I could never find it on here.This shop is great!!! Cool and friendly environment! Seems a little on the hidden side but well worth looking for.I found dan while he was still at his San Jose location. At that time I heard about him through word of mouth from friends who have had work done by him. I guess he's been tattooing for a while because it seems like a lot of people recognize his name and have his tattoos.I first had him do some large writing on my chest. I told him what I wanted and the basics of what it should look like. He drew it on me and went to work. When he was done I was shocked by how good it came out. It was exactly what I wanted! This guy is really good at fine detail. I've since got a sleeve done and am halfway through a back piece. I honestly send my friends and family to Dan. So far my brothers, sister, cousin and no less then 6 friends have gone there after and have all been happy by the quality and prices.Being from San Jose it's a bit of a drive to his new place. The way I look at it yeah it's a drive but I will have the tattoo for the rest of my life, AND A GOOD TATTOO IS WORTH IT!!! Read Less

Popped my head into this shop and really liked it. Nice and clean and packed with Dans art on the walls. Dan seemed nice. He answered all my questions and showed me his portfolio.  This by far wasn't my first tattoo but I got to admit it was the least painful. I really like how it came out. He took my idea and and really ran with it. Prices were good for the amount of work and detail he put in. Lookin forward to the next one.
