everyone i've spoken to that works here is extremely pretentious and condescending. no one is ever helpful in answering questions, and they make you feel bad for even being there. apparently each staff member can only do one job, and if one is missing, no one else can do it. all i needed was to buy a belly button ring. i didn't even need a piercer to put it on for me, cause it really isn't that difficult. all i needed was for someone to get me the smallest belly ring size and take my money, but the only person there said they were incapable of doing that. i don't know where this person got certified to stick people with needles, but it's extremely concerning when they can't even use their eyes correctly or use a cash register. there are much better tattoo and piercing places in santa cruz that provide much better customer service. I came here with my friends to get ear piercings, and I HIGHLY recommend this place to everyone! I was nervous because I haven't gotten an ear piercing since I was little, and they were super friendly and helped my friends and I out throughout the ENTIRE process. Paul was excellent! Went in for a spur of the moment piercing for my nostril. I'm giving it a three-star--even though Paul was VERY professional and I totally enjoyed the piercing experience. BUT when I called to ask the pricing a female answered the phone and told me $55. When I walked in and an older gentleman who was a tattoo artist was sitting there he oddly directed me to Paul in regards to the piercing. When I asked Paul of the pricing with specific jewelry the price had jumped up to $75. When I asked them the discrepancy, he said they've never been $55 and there's no one here that would give me that information. No longer than 5 minutes after Paul goes back to get the piercing sterilized, I have a woman, who is very reminiscent from the phone call, walk up and begin to take my paperwork information down. I felt frustrated that they didn't have their costs right and I was basically being told I wasn't telling the truth. All of that aside--I really enjoyed my experience with Paul specifically. I got my conch pierced, the piercer was super professional; he talked me through the process and it was a great experience. Soooo I went in after a long day of work and I dont even know how I ended up in here. But from the first step in, I noticed right away how clean it was. I already had in mind a design I wanted for my first tattoo so I just showed my picture and everyone was really friendly. Pat was working on someone but he told me he could squeeze me in after 6. So I went for a walk and some food and came back super nervous. But Pat was super nice about it all, showed me my tattoo and how he cleaned it up a little. The placement was perfect and everything I wished for. He started off slow and would joke around to keep me at ease (Especially since it's around my rib area)When he was done he explained very thoroughly how to take care of it, which I noticed with my friends that some tattoo parlors don't. I forgot which piercer helped me, but he was so friendly and patient! I had taken the advice of a doctor to take out my piercing when it had a bump (a no-no, jewelry in infected piercings should stay). I went to this shop and wanted to ask what I should do. My piercer recommended I put on another piercing that's titanium so my body wouldn't reject it. They have a variety of jewelry, and some nice ones are affordable! I got a small stud for my cartilage and it healed AMAZINGLY, especially with the advice I was given! Not once did I feel like I was being judged for what I did with my piercing, and my piercer did not rush to get me out of there even though there was a line. Pat is amazing!! 10/10 would recommend. We had to put my dog down earlier this year and I've been having a hard time dealing with it. So I decided that I wanted to get her paw print as a tattoo. This is something that could've easily been butchered and turned into a big black blob. But Pat did an amazing job and it is better than I could've hoped for. Called on a random Tuesday afternoon while on vacation to see if there was anyone available for a couple of walk-ins. Got to the shop about an hour later, and after joking back and forth with the piercer about getting face tattoos, Gio was the lucky guy to deal with two girls who weren't entirely sure what they wanted (one of them getting their first tattoo). I had a brief idea of what I wanted, but needed some guidance for size and placement, and Gio REALLY delivered.  He was soft spoken but still held conversation, and finding out he was a fellow Saints fan was just icing on the cake. He worked FAST, but never was heavy handed, even though my tattoo needed some thicker line work. Since I had never gotten a tattoo in that particular spot (inner bicep), I asked, like everyone does, what kind of pain to expect.. and he was completely honest with me. Came by Mission Street Tattoo around 6 PM on a Sunday evening to pick up new navel jewelry, as the one I had been wearing had fallen out. Upon speaking with the gentleman at the counter, I was told that their piercer had gone home early, and so they were unable to help me at all.I have been to a number of different tattoo and piercing establishments over the years, and all of the employees who have worked there have been able to sell jewelry. I understand that piercings themselves can't be performed without a piercer. But selling jewelry? Come on.I was not looking to get anything pierced, and I already knew what size and style I wanted. I went here to get some facial jewelry changed out in a healed piercing. They got the job done fairly quickly and painlessly, but if I'm being honest it want the experience I was hoping for. They didn't have a very large stock of jewelry in the size I needed (just the ring for a CBR), so I sadly wasn't able to have my jewelry anodized like I was hoping, which was part of the reason I came here. Also, I felt slightly condescended when the piercer was "educating" me on how my previous jewelry was the wrong choice. I didn't really need to hear that when I already clearly knew it didn't fit, and was literally trying to get it changed to fix it. Overall, they were clean and quick. This shop is super clean and has friendly staff. I had my nose pierced here and the guy was super awesome to work with! He goes through the process and even shows you he is sterilizing the jewelry right there. Love this place, I've been there for tattoos and piercings. This last time I went in I was going in for a tattoo by Patrick. He tried charging me 600$ for two tiny Ivy vines going up my back and when I say tiny I mean 6-7". He said he charges 150$ per hour, I have tattoos all over my body and I've never heard of two Ivy vines taking 5 hours. Anyway, great place but don't get inked by Patrick, he's a rip off. Read Less

I went in on a weekday to get my lobes double pierced, and they weren't super busy. I was in and out quickly, and my piercer was super nice and thorough in prepping (needle was autoclaved). The first time I went was a few years ago, I stopped by with a friend to get her helix piercing looked at when it was acting up pretty badly. This is a special place. The staff are happy and helpful which is a sign of great management, and the management is a co-op of all the resident artists, so everybody's very engaged in what's happening. The shop itself is inviting, open, clean, and completely completely bullshit-free, making it someplace you want to spend your time and money. Most importantly, the artists are top notch, both in time taken to really get your designs right and skill in the application. Going along with my tattoo shop review, I believe body art places are only great if the staff and service are excellent! My three best friends and I came here to get piercings (ears + other private areas). It was my first time getting piercings in a place that is not my ear (let's just say every lady has two of them) and I was super nervous even though I acted calm. I wasn't sure of the pain level, cleaning process, and just about every single type of paranoia you can possibly have when getting piercings there. The Process: The guy who did my piercings was SUPER NICE and professional. He had a very soothing voice that talked me and my friends through every step of the way so we knew what was going on. I wish I remembered his name but I think  I was too nervous in the beginning to remember (Sorry Mr. Nice Voice!). The whole entire actual piercing process only took no longer than a couple of minutes. Most of it was just to mark where the piercing was going to be and the size of the ring. Came by on Thursday to get a simple cat tattoo done. Nothing fancy, but was a little concerned because I wasn't sure if they'd have availability for a walk-in. I was pleased to hear that Gio was available! I had something already drawn out and he cleaned up the lines very nicely. When it came to placement, he got it perfect the first time which was another concern of mine. Fast forward and I'm out of there in practically no time. I dropped by on a Sunday and wanted to get tatted. My first thoughts...wow this place is huge, and clean!!!! SUPER IMPORTANT to me. Also, every chair was filled, which is another good sign. As the sound of ink being so graciously tapped into virgin skin danced in my ears I knew this is where I wanted to get my peonies done. Long story short, I had Pat do my ink. He was AWESOME. Got a tattoo with Gio today, it was dope. He did an absolutely perfect job, adjusted the art I brought in for free to make it perfect; he was super nice. I actually arrived late and felt bad but there were absolutely no bad vibes. The price was absolutely reasonable for the work put in; basically it was the stated hourly price of 150 per hour. Do NOT hesitate to come here. The experience each time I came in was perfect. There was no nonsense I dropped off my pictures yesterday, came in and he had already adapted it. Great experience.
