Before I leave my review I would just like to say... Whenever you Yelp review tattoo joints, you're bound to see the bogus complaints. If you're concerned with a bad review please remember to go to the profile of the person complaining and notice how ALL of their reviews are just petty complaints. Yelp was created to be helpful, but people definitely use it as an outlet to passive aggressively complain. If you're reading this in hope of finding your new tattoo artist/shop I would highly recommend finding them on Instagram! @kellymcmurraytattooer @matteomoyer_ @ksmith_tattoosWhere to begin, ah yes a few years ago I was in the area on vacation in Aptos. It was summertime and I was looking for a walk in shop to get a tattoo. Naturally my girlfriend mentioned this shop she follows on IG in Capitola. The shop was quick to answer the phone and tell me their availability. My first tattoo done at this shop was by Kelly (I'll post update the pic when I can find it). The shop is in such a cool spot, definitely makes you feel like you're immersed in the culture when your down there by the ocean. The tattoo was perfect it had straight clean lines, crisp colors and 4 years later it still looks fantastic!Fast forward to now. This tiger is something I've wanted for a while but never actually had the courage to run out and get tattooed. This summer I decided to go for it and I trusted Kelly to help me design the perfect tattoo. Kelly was at the shop before our appointment working on the design, we spent close to 45 minutes erasing and changing little details of the tigers outline (the drawing did not look like this originally). Design is important and finding a tattoo artist that will work with you and tell you the do's and dont's of tattooing is even more important in my opinion. Every artist in this shop is nice, professional and knowledgeable so I had a lot of fun designing my tattoo and watching other people in the shop design their tattoos!The outline hurt like every tattoo but she put me in a comfortable spot, chatted to make the time go by and let me take break when it got too intense Once the outline was complete Kelly busted out the iPad and she drew tons of different color ideas and let me pick and choose exactly what I wanted. Honestly the coolest colors in this tattoo were Kelly's ideas, I have an extreme amount of faith in her ability to hear me out and choose what's going to look the best and last a very long time! I couldn't be happier with my new tattoo and the great times we had in the shop. Total needle time was a little over 4 hours not including the time we spent designing and picking colors. Kelly's shop has really REALLY good pricing for the quality of work they provide. I'd say whether you're making an appointment or walking in just be humble, let the artists guide you and you'll have a great time too.

This is a great place to get a tattoo! It's beautifully decorated inside with music playing and artwork displayed. The tattoo art is not cluttered and overwhelming like some places, the music had a positive vibe, and the place is decorated in brighter colors, giving a more relaxed feel. Kelly was wonderful to work with. She will tell you if what you want isn't practical as far as size, placement or if there's too much going on with what you want. She took the time to work with me on all of this, and I left a very happy customer. I will definitely be returning to see her some day!!

Called to ask a question and was mad disrespected. Don't know who she was but you just don't talk to people like that. She totally misunderstood my question and was extremely dismissive. Didn't really let me talk even. I've asked the same question to multiple other shops and they've been very kind. When I said thank you for explaining it correctly she said that I probably got turned down for asking for a cheap tattoo. Which I didn't and they were kind. I have a small small like and six tiny dots. I was trying to understand the way minimums worked. Somehow according to her a line on my face would easily be 100 bucks. One line really? That's what you think?? That's the mindset that's got you so stuck up? Seriously you guys need to ego check your employees. I have severe anxiety and it fucked me up for a few hours which is absolutely not okay. I don't care how much of a tatted bad bitch you are. Have some care. It may have sounded like a dumb question but I have a traumatic brain injury and I need to make sure I'm not confused which I'm allowed to do without that experience. You never know what someone's going through..

My girlfriend and I came in Saturday afternoon to see about getting a tattoo, it wasn't planned originally. We were walk ins and the shop was obviously busy, still having a few people ahead of us. Just wanted to give a shout out to Kelly for making it happen. We were able to come back after hours and get the work done, and she did a really great job. We'll definitely be back to see her on a future trip to Santa Cruz.*Tattoo was a paw print for our dog that recently passed.

I went to Kasey Smith for a pretty simply idea & he helped me put it together in a way that I liked. It was easy to contact & make an appointment & I didn't have to book months in advance! The shop is simple but has a very Santa Cruz feel to it. It didn't feel crowded or noisy & was overall very clean. His line work & steady hand are by far the best I've experienced. He seems pretty quiet but very concentrated which I like in an artist. Definitely coming back here!

This review is long overdue. I found Kelly and her shop on Instagram some time last year. I really liked her style and use of color so I booked an appointment with her. Communication through email was easy. When I arrived at the shop I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is easy parking in a lot out front, and the shop is decorated beautifully. It has this awesome, sparkly sofa and tons of artwork up on the walls. Kelly talked to me about placement and colors of the tattoo, and went to work. She did an incredible job on my 80's inspired cassette tape. The tattoo was so impressive that my hubby went to Kelly a few months later to get a version of it. I'm looking forward to visiting Kelly and her shop soon!

Don't let the colorful pictures fool you on her Instagram or Yelp. In reality you will get a flower that looks like an octopus. She also SCARRED ME REALLY BAD (actual visible scars on my tattoo from her digging her needle into me way to hard) WHO USES THIS MUCH BLACK IN A FLOWER? Such an amateur. The best part of all of it being that She refuses to fix, cover or pay for her mistake. NOT a real artist, please save your money and skin and find a real one.

I looked this place up on Yelp and read the reviews and decided to call. I was helped by Tony who was super accommodating and was able to get me in today. Not only was he incredibly pleasant but he totally exceeded my expectations of the drawing I wanted. So I highly recommend him especially and this shop as it was very clean and neat. Awesome place, friendly tattoo artists! Walked in without having an appointment and had to wait 20 min which wasn't bad at all. I don't remember my tattoo artists name, it was either Tommy or Tony, but he was totally professional. We talked about Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and aliens. The tattoo took about 20 min to finish, it was a super simple design. Definitely recommend this place.

I use to love going to this shop but unfortunately Kelly the shop owner isnt honest. I got a mandala from her two years ago upon coming home and coming off the tattoo high I noticed she missed an intricate part of my tattoo, a yellow petal with black behind it. Screwing up the whole mandala. There is virtually no way to correct it. I chalked it down to a mistake, thought no harm no foul. I did notice a day after she posted my tattoo to her insta she then had deleted it. I had come to the shop two more times but was tattoo'd by a different artist but saw Kelly each time. Kelly never said anything to me. Nothing, no apology or explanation. After chatting with the other tattoo artist he told me that sure as sh*t noticed and still never reached out to me in person, when she saw me or via instagram afterwards.Thus proving to me she did know about her flub up and couldnt cop to it. This shop is awesome! My friends and I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon without an appointment. We wanted to get little matching tattoos on our ankles and were hell-bent on getting them that day. Other shops turned us away saying that they were too busy or that they didn't do small tattoos, but not this place! The owner of the shop was there working on a large piece, but when she heard what we wanted she called over another artists to have him help us. He was prompt, nice, and couldn't have done a better job on our small tattoos. All-in-all we were in and out in about an hour, and he was super patient with those of us in the group who were not accustomed to the pain of getting a tattoo. He made good conversation while we were there and wasn't judgmental or condescending (as I have found some tattoo artists to be). I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo in capitola.

So I came here with two friends. My friend wanted a small anchor on his neck and we all wanted a simple "90's" tattoo on our finger. I don't know how she managed to mess it up. They all look like it says "go's". I'm so embarrassed when someone asks if it's a tattoo I say it's written in pen so I can avoid having to explain. I'm going to have to cover it up with something else. I was feeling spontaneous and had been wanting to get the 90's tattoo for a while but now that's ruined and I'll have to go elsewhere. A few email exchanges and one cash deposit later, we had our appointments! No hassle, very professional, shop is clean and organized.It was mine and my fiance's first tattoos so I, at least, was a little nervous. Kelly handled us gently, explaining the process as well as aftercare multiple times. She had our designs printed in a flash and tested a small section so we could each get a feel for the pain before she really set to work. She was focused but fun.She got both our tattoos done in less than the quoted time, which means she came in under-budget while still providing quality work. Our pieces look amazing! At first I was impressed by this place, although the attitudes of the artists were the same I have experienced elsewhere in tattoo shops. Went to have a piece worked on to look better and he actually ended up scarring me on the spots he "touched up". Actual, raised scars. I have never had this experience before and it was not how I healed it. Artists are talented, just need more experience tattooing sensitive skin. Also showed up a couple times for an appointment and was turned away because they were working on a walk in, pretty unprofessional. Artist also showed up to my appointment 40 minutes late and was high as a kite. Would not recommend.

Sometimes going into a shop can be really intimidating, but these guys are relaxed and helpful. This was my 4th tattoo, but every time seems just as nerve-wracking as the first... they made sure I was comfortable and distracted me from pain.. really genuinely wanted to know about me & have a nice conversation.Aside from their personalities, I'm in LOVE with my tattoo - the detail and precision are obvious! To Make a Long Story Short: Addison is an AMAZING artist, fantastic with a tattoo gun, and Good Luck Tattoo is definitely the place to go for beautiful (clean!) tattooing with artists and owners that really know their stuff. I got my very first tattoo here about 2 weeks ago and the whole experience was awesome! The shop itself is in a great location and is really inviting. Being my first time, I did quite a bit of research and visited some other shops in the area and this one made me feel the most comfortable going to. The inside is CLEAN and has a nice relaxed vibe, nothing is overbearing or in your face, despite the plethora of beautiful artwork on the walls.All of the artists looked like they did great work and I don't imagine I would have been disappointed with anyone but I chose to go with Addison because his work seemed most in line with what I was looking for. I wanted a linework dragon in all black ink (somewhat tribal, but not exactly). Addison is a great guy, very nice and didn't make me feel like I was inferior for being a virgin to tattoos. I sent him some ideas of what I was looking for and (after a brief communication snafu, which I don't blame him for) I had my appointment booked for 2 weeks from that day.When I went in I couldn't help but get excited by how excited HE was for the tattoo and he said he had been drawing dragons for the past couple days. Addison definitely put a lot of attention into it and was happy to make a few minor changes that I suggested. The tattoo took almost 4 hours and sure, it wasn't like being licked by kittens, but Addison was gentle, talkative (but not too much when I just wanted to zone out), and willing to give me breaks if I needed them. After it was all done and he showed me the tattoo in the mirror HOLY COW was it better than anything I could have imagined. I know I would have been happy with my tribal-ish dragon that I had in my head, but he added a ton of depth and realism with just a little black and white ink. I was absolutely stunned by how beautiful it was. I loved how he showed it off to the other artists and anybody that walked in. I truly feel like this was a work of art that he was proud of and I am so, so in love with it.The after-care instructions are simple (no hard sell on specialty ointments or creams) and easy to follow. I know results may vary and the healing process isn't really up to the shop or the artist, but I didn't have anything more than a bit of flaking and itching, no scabs or anything awful.I wish I could give more stars for Good Luck tattoo, it's really as good as it gets.

I love Good Luck Tattoo. It is a great little shop right in downtown Capitola. I have gotten multiple tattoos by Kelly and I will continue to go back. She is amazing and has put some great artwork on my skin. The shop is always clean and professional and they have a sparkly gold couch to wait on. All of the artists that are there are extremely talented and have some nice portfolios laying out to look at. They have tons of flash up on display and sometimes they do flash specials. Go see Kelly or any of the other great artists to get some new tattoos.

Yelp was created to be helpful, but people definitely use it as an outlet to passive aggressively complain. If you're reading this in hope of finding your new tattoo artist/shop I would highly recommend finding them on Instagram! @kellymcmurraytattooer @matteomoyer_ @ksmith_tattoosWhere to begin, ah yes a few years ago I was in the area on vacation in Aptos. It was summertime and I was looking for a walk in shop to get a tattoo. Naturally my girlfriend mentioned this shop she follows on IG in Capitola. The shop was quick to answer the phone and tell me their availability. My first tattoo done at this shop was by Kelly (I'll post update the pic when I can find it). The shop is in such a cool spot, definitely makes you feel like you're immersed in the culture when your down there by the ocean. The tattoo was perfect it had straight clean lines, crisp colors and 4 years later it still looks fantastic!Fast forward to now. This tiger is something I've wanted for a while but never actually had the courage to run out and get tattooed. This summer I decided to go for it and I trusted Kelly to help me design the perfect tattoo. Kelly was at the shop before our appointment working on the design, we spent close to 45 minutes erasing and changing little details of the tigers outline (the drawing did not look like this originally). Design is important and finding a tattoo artist that will work with you and tell you the do's and dont's of tattooing is even more important in my opinion. Every artist in this shop is nice, professional and knowledgeable so I had a lot of fun designing my tattoo and watching other people in the shop design their tattoos!The outline hurt like every tattoo but she put me in a comfortable spot, chatted to make the time go by and let me take break when it got too intense Once the outline was complete Kelly busted out the iPad and she drew tons of different color ideas and let me pick and choose exactly what I wanted. Honestly the coolest colors in this tattoo were Kelly's ideas, I have an extreme amount of faith in her ability to hear me out and choose what's going to look the best and last a very long time! I couldn't be happier with my new tattoo and the great times we had in the shop. Total needle time was a little over 4 hours not including the time we spent designing and picking colors. Kelly's shop has really REALLY good pricing for the quality of work they provide. I'd say whether you're making an appointment or walking in just be humble, let the artists guide you and you'll have a great time too.

This is a great place to get a tattoo! It's beautifully decorated inside with music playing and artwork displayed. The tattoo art is not cluttered and overwhelming like some places, the music had a positive vibe, and the place is decorated in brighter colors, giving a more relaxed feel. Kelly was wonderful to work with. She will tell you if what you want isn't practical as far as size, placement or if there's too much going on with what you want. She took the time to work with me on all of this, and I left a very happy customer. I will definitely be returning to see her some day!!

Didn't really let me talk even. I've asked the same question to multiple other shops and they've been very kind. When I said thank you for explaining it correctly she said that I probably got turned down for asking for a cheap tattoo. Which I didn't and they were kind. I have a small small like and six tiny dots. I was trying to understand the way minimums worked. Somehow according to her a line on my face would easily be 100 bucks. One line really? That's what you think?? That's the mindset that's got you so stuck up? Seriously you guys need to ego check your employees. I have severe anxiety and it fucked me up for a few hours which is absolutely not okay. I don't care how much of a tatted bad bitch you are. Have some care. It may have sounded like a dumb question but I have a traumatic brain injury and I need to make sure I'm not confused which I'm allowed to do without that experience. You never know what someone's going through..

I went to Kasey Smith for a pretty simply idea & he helped me put it together in a way that I liked. It was easy to contact & make an appointment & I didn't have to book months in advance! The shop is simple but has a very Santa Cruz feel to it. It didn't feel crowded or noisy & was overall very clean. His line work & steady hand are by far the best I've experienced. He seems pretty quiet but very concentrated which I like in an artist. Definitely coming back here!

This review is long overdue. I found Kelly and her shop on Instagram some time last year. I really liked her style and use of color so I booked an appointment with her. Communication through email was easy. When I arrived at the shop I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is easy parking in a lot out front, and the shop is decorated beautifully. It has this awesome, sparkly sofa and tons of artwork up on the walls. Kelly talked to me about placement and colors of the tattoo, and went to work. She did an incredible job on my 80's inspired cassette tape. The tattoo was so impressive that my hubby went to Kelly a few months later to get a version of it. I'm looking forward to visiting Kelly and her shop soon!

Don't let the colorful pictures fool you on her Instagram or Yelp. In reality you will get a flower that looks like an octopus. She also SCARRED ME REALLY BAD (actual visible scars on my tattoo from her digging her needle into me way to hard) WHO USES THIS MUCH BLACK IN A FLOWER? Such an amateur. The best part of all of it being that She refuses to fix, cover or pay for her mistake. NOT a real artist, please save your money and skin and find a real one.

Awesome place, friendly tattoo artists! Walked in without having an appointment and had to wait 20 min which wasn't bad at all. I don't remember my tattoo artists name, it was either Tommy or Tony, but he was totally professional. We talked about Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and aliens. I use to love going to this shop but unfortunately Kelly the shop owner isnt honest. I got a mandala from her two years ago upon coming home and coming off the tattoo high I noticed she missed an intricate part of my tattoo, a yellow petal with black behind it. Screwing up the whole mandala. There is virtually no way to correct it. I chalked it down to a mistake, thought no harm no foul. I did notice a day after she posted my tattoo to her insta she then had deleted it. I had come to the shop two more times but was tattoo'd by a different artist but saw Kelly each time. Kelly never said anything to me. Nothing, no apology or explanation. After chatting with the other tattoo artist he told me that sure as sh*t noticed and still never reached out to me in person, when she saw me or via instagram afterwards.Thus proving to me she did know about her flub up and couldnt cop to it. This shop is awesome! My friends and I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon without an appointment. We wanted to get little matching tattoos on our ankles and were hell-bent on getting them that day. Other shops turned us away saying that they were too busy or that they didn't do small tattoos, but not this place! The owner of the shop was there working on a large piece, but when she heard what we wanted she called over another artists to have him help us. He was prompt, nice, and couldn't have done a better job on our small tattoos. All-in-all we were in and out in about an hour, and he was super patient with those of us in the group who were not accustomed to the pain of getting a tattoo. He made good conversation while we were there and wasn't judgmental or condescending (as I have found some tattoo artists to be). I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo in capitola.

So I came here with two friends. My friend wanted a small anchor on his neck and we all wanted a simple "90's" tattoo on our finger. I don't know how she managed to mess it up. They all look like it says "go's". I'm so embarrassed when someone asks if it's a tattoo I say it's written in pen so I can avoid having to explain. I'm going to have to cover it up with something else. I was feeling spontaneous and had been wanting to get the 90's tattoo for a while but now that's ruined and I'll have to go elsewhere. Oh, her name was Kelly. When they say Good Luck tattoo they literally mean it. Good luck!

Addison is as good as it gets! I called suuuuper last min to see if they could do a walk in for what I thought would be an easy job ( this aint my first rodeo). I was on a time crunch and a budget. Addison took care of me! His work is amazing , he was friendly and just over all rad. He went above and beyond what I could have ever imagined for my request. Much better than my last experience at good luck.Next time I have some "mom time" I'll be back! :)

Got tattoos from Kelly almost two weeks ago now and had a fantastic experience, from the first time we walked in the door to check the place out to our almost-healed tattoos.Kelly is friendly, receptive, and responsive to emails. We were greeted within moments of walking in, there's examples of the artists' work everywhere, she patiently answered all our questions, and gave us further info to contact her. A few email exchanges and one cash deposit later, we had our appointments! No hassle, very professional, shop is clean and organized.It was mine and my fiance's first tattoos so I, at least, was a little nervous. Kelly handled us gently, explaining the process as well as aftercare multiple times. She had our designs printed in a flash and tested a small section so we could each get a feel for the pain before she really set to work. She was focused but fun.She got both our tattoos done in less than the quoted time, which means she came in under-budget while still providing quality work. Our pieces look amazing! I'm absolutely in love with mine and we will definitely be back for our next tattoos. Thanks Kelly & Good Luck Tattoo!

At first I was impressed by this place, although the attitudes of the artists were the same I have experienced elsewhere in tattoo shops. Went to have a piece worked on to look better and he actually ended up scarring me on the spots he "touched up". Actual, raised scars. I have never had this experience before and it was not how I healed it. Artists are talented, just need more experience tattooing sensitive skin. Also showed up a couple times for an appointment and was turned away because they were working on a walk in, pretty unprofessional. Artist also showed up to my appointment 40 minutes late and was high as a kite. Would not recommend.

Sat for 4.5 hours but the staff made the time go by so much faster. They are kind, personable, and good-hearted folks who take their work seriously. Sometimes going into a shop can be really intimidating, but these guys are relaxed and helpful. This was my 4th tattoo, but every time seems just as nerve-wracking as the first... they made sure I was comfortable and distracted me from pain.. really genuinely wanted to know about me & have a nice conversation.Aside from their personalities, I'm in LOVE with my tattoo - the detail and precision are obvious! It's just beautiful! Thanks Addi :-)

I love my new tattoo and will be back. Very clean place too. Look forward to the next one . It only hurt at the beginning then after that I didn't feel much pain.

To Make a Long Story Short: Addison is an AMAZING artist, fantastic with a tattoo gun, and Good Luck Tattoo is definitely the place to go for beautiful (clean!) tattooing with artists and owners that really know their stuff. I got my very first tattoo here about 2 weeks ago and the whole experience was awesome! The shop itself is in a great location and is really inviting. Being my first time, I did quite a bit of research and visited some other shops in the area and this one made me feel the most comfortable going to. The inside is CLEAN and has a nice relaxed vibe, nothing is overbearing or in your face, despite the plethora of beautiful artwork on the walls.All of the artists looked like they did great work and I don't imagine I would have been disappointed with anyone but I chose to go with Addison because his work seemed most in line with what I was looking for. I wanted a linework dragon in all black ink (somewhat tribal, but not exactly). Addison is a great guy, very nice and didn't make me feel like I was inferior for being a virgin to tattoos. I sent him some ideas of what I was looking for and (after a brief communication snafu, which I don't blame him for) I had my appointment booked for 2 weeks from that day.When I went in I couldn't help but get excited by how excited HE was for the tattoo and he said he had been drawing dragons for the past couple days. Addison definitely put a lot of attention into it and was happy to make a few minor changes that I suggested. The tattoo took almost 4 hours and sure, it wasn't like being licked by kittens, but Addison was gentle, talkative (but not too much when I just wanted to zone out), and willing to give me breaks if I needed them. After it was all done and he showed me the tattoo in the mirror HOLY COW was it better than anything I could have imagined. I know I would have been happy with my tribal-ish dragon that I had in my head, but he added a ton of depth and realism with just a little black and white ink. I was absolutely stunned by how beautiful it was. I loved how he showed it off to the other artists and anybody that walked in. I truly feel like this was a work of art that he was proud of and I am so, so in love with it.The after-care instructions are simple (no hard sell on specialty ointments or creams) and easy to follow. I know results may vary and the healing process isn't really up to the shop or the artist, but I didn't have anything more than a bit of flaking and itching, no scabs or anything awful.I wish I could give more stars for Good Luck tattoo, it's really as good as it gets.

I love Good Luck Tattoo. It is a great little shop right in downtown Capitola. I have gotten multiple tattoos by Kelly and I will continue to go back. She is amazing and has put some great artwork on my skin. The shop is always clean and professional and they have a sparkly gold couch to wait on. All of the artists that are there are extremely talented and have some nice portfolios laying out to look at. They have tons of flash up on display and sometimes they do flash specials. Go see Kelly or any of the other great artists to get some new tattoos.
