My 1st tattoo!! So I have always wanted to get a tattoo but have been very indifferent about getting something permanent on my body. Tattoos are beautiful but idk if I ever saw myself with one. The past 6years I have struggled a lot with mental health; OCD, bipolar depression, & sever anxiety. You would never know by looking at me except that I'm very jittery, anxious, sucky memory, & I can't find my words a lot of the time. It has put a damper on my life to say the lease. Nevertheless, the quote "this too shall pass" has always been the thought, saying, quote, mantra,that has kept me grounded. I think of it when I feel like I'm starting to have an attack or episode. I came here on a whim to upgrade my body jewelry. I was expecting a slight fitting and some jewelry, but what I received was much more. They were a bit busy when I arrived, the woman behind the counter was patient and attentive to my questions. Desi, who does the custom fittings, is a rockstar! I was so excited to get my first tattoo. I heard many good things about Artifact and my friend referred me to a couple artists here. I wanted a small, simple and detailed outline of a mountain range, easy enough? My boyfriend had emailed one of the artists a picture of what I wanted and set a date. She was very friendly through message. First of all, I had made my appointment for 1pm, I got there on time, but sat at the front and waited for at least 30 minutes for her to squeeze in a walk in before me that wasn't even started until after 10 minutes of me standing there. I disregarded it since I was about to get my first tattoo and I was very excited about it. Around 2, she makes me fill out paper work while she pulls up the picture I had sent. She traces the photo (not exactly, completely half assed) without asking if I liked it, wanted to add anything to it or change any small details. I didn't even see the stencil until she took me back and put it on my arm. I wanted it a little above my elbow. At first, she puts it in the middle of my upper arm, I ask her to lower it and she does but only a tiny bit.(she was very nice about it) It looked okay from a far, since she had one mirror across the room so I could barley see it(this was my first time seeing the stencil) I approved it (stupid of me, I was nervous and felt like I couldn't say anything against it since she seemed to be in a weird funk and made me feel like a bother when I asked for something that she had to go out of her way for). It was painful, and every time I flinched she told me not to move in an annoyed tone. It's fine though, I understand she didn't want to mess anything up. However, this tattoo is nothing I wanted. I wanted it to be small with thin lines (it seemed small in the mirror across the room which was the only time I saw it, if I saw it up close I would've said no in a heartbeat) what I got were thick lines and a very much bigger and pre-school-drawing looking tattoo. It's horrible. I got this tattoo 2 months ago and I have not worn short sleeves since. I thought maybe if i wait for it to heal, some swelling would go down and it would look closer to what i wanted. It wasn't swelling. It's crooked and has this weird hockey stick looking line in the middle. I will show pictures of what I wanted vs what I got for reference. In short, I waited a while, had no say in the technicalities of what I wanted, and felt like a bother. She was nice for most of it and has a lot of amazing work on her instagram. Maybe it was just an off day for her? I should've done more research and confirmed everything I wanted in what I was getting so I can't blame her for everything. I have to get this thing Lasered off now (which I don't have money for) and have to hide it until it's gone because it is that embarrassing for me. If I appear a little bias in this review, that is because I AM. My experiences have led me to this place and now this place is an extension to those experiences and, thus, in a way, is part of those experiences. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. My perspective is mostly limited to the tattooing experience but once, with an ex, I came here because she wanted a piercing. So that time and this past year and a half gets this place a cumulative five star rating from me. Absolutely love the atmosphere here. The people are very laidback and friendly. I have over heard a few conversations where I was strictly the objective listener and the staff listens to the clients' and gives just the right amount of guidance to assist in their path to their desired work. Assists and not leads. The client and their idea is still very much unique to theirs and the client is leading their project. A side note about Artifact- as I have mentioned, this place is aesthetically very pleasing to the eyes. If you haven't been here in a few months, Go. They have updated the walls, added cool molecule shaped wall shelves, (reminds me of this one Pixar movie every one where they had an LSD molecule shaped wall shelf), moved their displays around and once I walked in when the people running the place had low lighting, it looked so invited, cozy and homey. Like I should have had a pillow, and blanket and I'd KO right there. All in all, I have awesome memory of this place and will not stop going there. You shouldn't either. I love this place! I came in here to get my conch pierced and literally had the best experience ever. The staff was SUPER nice and patient with me while I chose my jewelry. They were especially kind to me when I was trying to find a price point that I could afford, and were very knowledgeable about the materials that made up all of their jewelry. Once I finished that, the rest of my experience was even more flawless. DESI IS THE TRUTH. Period. He took so much time prepping me for the procedure and honestly I barely felt a pinch when he pierced my ear! I'm terrible with acute pain so that's a super big deal for me, especially because it was going through a thick part of the cartilage. The whole shop was so, so clean (especially the piercing room) and Desi used all of the necessary sanitary precautions throughout the process. The aftercare instructions he gave me were easy to understand and super simple. I left the shop SO happy with my new piercing! It's been about a week and a half, and my ear is healing nicely with no infections whatsoever. Pretty good place, got my first piercing here, however I asked for a horse shoe piercing as a smiley and they gave me a segment ring. I didn’t ask for so when I did see it I was a bit disappointed, paid 80$ in total it’s very hard to take out seeing it’s in the most sensitive part of my mouth I went again to see if they can take it out and they said they can but I need to pay for another ring and it was still inflated I understood went again and I understand being busy but completey ignoring my existence was bad in my opinion, I’m still stuck with the same ring I wish I can change it but I’ve tried taking it out myself in the most safest way possible and it seems that it might rip apart. The girl they have in there microblading is sooo awful. She has absolutely no back ground in makeup or cosmetics. she isn't even a tattoo artist or an Esthetician . How can you expect someone to do a good job with permanent eyebrow shape when they have never practiced it or learned about face shapes. It's also very awkward that she claims to be a professional but then asks for models and expects her models to pay top rate. I just got my nose pierced and I love it! Walked right in and only waited about 15 minutes. Everyone was really nice and the shop is clean and professional. Only downside is the price. $110 for a nose piercing is a bit much, especially compared to other shops! I went in on Friday night only to see a sign up on their door that read "Getting dinner, book an appointment" it was about 7:45pm at that time. I saw that two other girls were also sitting in their car waiting for them. My friend and I decided to wait because I had just talked to them 30 min. before that. The wait became 40 min. I was annoyed, but I decided that I'll go kill some time and come back. As I was killing time I called them multiple times to see if they would answer that way I don't go back to see that they still weren't there. I even left a voicemail and asked them to call me back so that I could get my sisters nose pierced. They never called me back. What kind of business leaves for dinner, never comes back, closes 3 hours early (since you clearly never came back) and NEVER returns a phone call regarding an appointment. This is absolutely ridiculous and was extremely frustrating because I wasted 40 min sitting outside your bench and another 20-30 min killing time and calling you and leaving you a voicemail in hopes that I will get a response. It's clear that customer service is not a priority. Yelp doesn't give me a choice to leave 0 stars unfortunately. But 0 stars is the rating I'm giving.& just wanted to let you know that you had various customers that came, saw your sign, got pissed, and left. Read Less

This place is a joke. I wanted a memorial tattoo when my grandpa passed away. After 5 calls back and forth from the shop they said they would do it. I get it done by an artist and it turned out good. The artist says in 2 or 3 months come back and I'll touch it up. I call the shop over a month later and the lady says that artist isn't there anymore but she'll talk to the owner and call me back. After 2 weeks and no call back I call the shop and she says come on in to get it done. I go in and the chick that's been there for 2 weeks says it'll be 100 plus a tip. I told her the situation and she says that's a verbal contract but she can't do anything. I've gotten tattoos from many different shops but I've never seen one this unorganized. On top of that I've never had an artist include a tip on the price before, even though tips are given after. Read Less

Got my nieces belly button pierced today around one. The piercer Desi was fantastic. Really talked her through it because he saw she was nervous. He gave her his "rules" to keep it clean and heal well. He not only told this to her but also printed it out and emailed it. This is the only place I've been that asked for a follow up to check on the healing process. Only 4 stars because of price($100). We called and were told $40 for the piercing plus a "small" fee for the jewelry. Most navel piercings go for $50-75 so $100 was steep, but they say it's because their jewelry is higher quality. I got a harry potter tattoo done on my birthday   by Mo Southern and she did an absolute amazing job. I gave her an outline off what I wanted and what I saw after 4 1/2 was exactly what I pictured in my head. Her shading is fantastic, and if I told her I didn't want it to look like something or I wanted to stay away from harsh lines she knew exactly what I was talking about. It was an incredibly painful tattoo for me but she was very helpful with taking breaks, talking me through to painful parts and just all around enjoyable to get a ttaoo done by. I never thought I would ever go back to Artifact. I first came to Artifact 8 years ago. I got my first few piercings there and it burned me from trusting anyone to pierce me. I wasn't told that my ear wasn't built for an industrial bar that I got here which later rejected and resulted in a gnarly keloid that I fought to get rid of and I still have a deformed ear. I wasn't told that getting 4 belly button piercings at the same time would reject and leave my body with scares that I'm self conscious about. I vowed to never come back. I finally found a good piercer after I moved to the Bay area that used quality jewellery and I was happy. Through the years I still didn't hear the greatest thing about Artifact, and wasnt surprised. Until I had to move back home and didn't know where to go. My girlfriend had a tattoo appointment yesterday and against me warning her to not step for in this shop, we went. I must say, I was actually impressed. They finally have an awesome group of guys to tattoo and a great piercing staff to match. If she didn't force me to go I wouldn't have believed anyone that told me what I already was 100% sure about. Her tattoo came out beautiful for the first session and Kristen was awesome with understanding my concerns and how I'm fully aware of what I wanted to get and that I have had my chest dermals before and fully understand how important it is to keep them happy. A piercers job is to poke you right and my job is to make sure it stays there. I never thought I'd get another peircing from Artifact in my entire life but I now know that they have an exceptional staff that's trying their hardest to shake off the bad name they've been given and they're killing it!!! This place is amazing! My mom was looking to get her nose pierced while visting me in the valley and we stumbled upon this shop. They have great customer service and are very professional. It was almost 6:30pm on a sunday and they were able to help both me and my mom in a timely manner.Their selections of jewelry is great and of very high quality. The girl at the front desk (so sorry I spaced on remembering her name!) was very informative about the sizes, styles and everything in between.That being said price range is going to match the quality of jewelry, I believe it is 40$ for the procedure itself plus the cost of the specific jewlery you choose (altleast for the nose piercings anyway) For some people that might be a deal breaker, but I frankly wouldn't want to spend money on a inferior product especially if down the line very soon I have to replace it or it irritates my skin in a harsh way. Desi was our piercer,  and he was great! My mom kind of freaked out before he even did anything and he was very funny and calm about the procedure and my mom barely blinked and it was all over with. He did the same with me, and I honestly could barely tell the piercing was in.I would definitely recommended this place and I will consider this as my place to have all my piercing needs! Should be ten stars instead of 5. My wife and I went in for our tattoos done by JP. First glance the shop was clean and we'll taken care of. Good amount of seating and tons of awesome jewelry. While my wife was getting her tattoo,  I asked the piercer if she good check what size gage went in my ear. The piercer is professional and has a ton of knowledge when it comes to piercing. I highly recommend her. On to the tattoo part... JP was our artist and instantly made us feel welcomed. He's professional,  kind, and listens to what you want. While giving you ideas that make sense. There's no ego here; which we've encountered numerous times with other tattoo artist. Haven't had a tattoo here but myself and a few friends have had quite a few piercings and both piercers Desi and Kristin are VERY professional, easy to talk to, clean, and experienced.They talk you through the whole process and are willing to help however they can, even after the piercing has healed or has became an issue. Artifact Tattoo is amazing!!!I've had a thigh piece for a little while that is nice but not completely what I had in mind (just the tree with a simple black boarder around it).. I spoke to Chris and told him my thoughts about it, gave him my complete trust to come up with a design and he knocked it out of the park! I'm obsessed with how gorgeous my piece is now. It's the most perfect tattoo and I never thought I would ever get to have art so beautiful on my body that means so much to me. Chris is incredibly professional and kind and absolutely nailed exactly what I had in mind. His lines are flawless and he has a lighter hand so it didn't hurt as much as tattoos have for me in the past. It's been two days since the tattoo and the recovery process has been fairly simple as well, which is a plus. Basically, words can't even begin to describe how completely thrilled I've been with this entire experience. This place has one of the best vibes and employees for a piercing/tattoo shop! Love them!A few months ago I came here to get 1/2 of my micro dermal piercings on my lower back adjusted. The piercing was loose and infected due to poor jewelry choice at the shop i got it pierced at. Kristen was SO kind and understanding and made me feel comfortable while she re pierced me , AND she even offered to change the jewelry on the other piercing so they would match. I heard from Desi that she doesn't do much dermal piercings but she was so easy going and confident in her work.I came back in a few months later to get my rook pierced and got Kristen as my piercer again. Kristin is SO good! I took my 12 year old daughter in to get her cartilage pierced and Kristin made her feel so comfortable and welcomed. Absolutely love Kristin Sterling! Best piercing I have ever got and I have a few! She is very professional and explains everything about the piercing, jewellery, and care very clearly and is there if you ever have any questions or concerns! The jewellery is implant grade titanium and I have never had a piercing heal so well or quickly! Seriously worth every penny and I love my conch! I will never get a piercing from anyone else! I was hesitant to let my daughter have her nose pierced, but when we finally agreed to let her have it done, we selected Artifact based on the reviews.I have multiple tattoos, but none were done at Artifact (but after seeing their work, I kind of wish they had been).We called ahead for an appointment - and when we got to the shop, there were several "walk in " customers waiting.  But because we had an appointment, they took us at the appointment time, ahead of some of the "walk in's" - that was a good and professional start.The shop was immaculate, and also well furnished - not just a hole in the wall, like so many other shops.. that means to me that they put money into presenting a pleasant experience for their customers. Few shops do that.Kristen was so sweet to my daughter. Kind, professional, she explained everything in detail, and her customer service skills are top notch.My daughter REALLY wanted a ring, and didn't realize that she would have to wait 3 months for it to completely heal before she could switch the stud to a ring (they made a point of stressing exactly WHY that was so important).My daughter will be in Belgium for the school year in less than 4 weeks, so she was very disappointed when Kristen said that to switch the post for a ring, she really needed to go into a shop and have it done professionally.This is when Kristen BLEW my mind. She said that if we come back in a few weeks, before my daughter left for Belgium, and gave her the exact location she would be staying, that she (Kristen) would do research to find a reputable shop in Belgium that would accommodate my daughter. WOW!!There is no doubt that we will be back to talk to Kristen before my daughter leaves! (and to purchase her additional rings)I'm not into getting pierced myself, but if I were to have any more tattoos, or anyone would ask for a piercing recommendation, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kristen and Artifact!Good job, and Thank you!
