Super friendly and great customer service. The three stars are for the quality of the tattoo unfortunately. I got a Roman numeral date, a little over an inch long, on my wrist. Now this is a pretty small tattoo so maybe I should have done my homework and looked more into single needle tattoos and other artist portfolios. But, the tattoo itself isn't straight and some numbers are slightly longer and even thicker in line weight than others. There are a few lines that aren't even straight, but have obvious wiggles in them. I wanted the font to have serifs (maybe another poor decision on my part due to lack of research) but they just look like dots and some even blend into the numbers to make it look less uniform. He traced the tattoo, but it didn't come out with the quality that I hoped for. I think I should have definitely looked into the techniques for my desired look, but I would've appreciated being told that maybe this would not be the best shop for my desired vision. If the tattoo was too small and hard to trace, then I would much rather have been told 'no' than to have a meaningful tattoo that I am not happy with. Read Less

Two days ago I went in for a tattoo to cover up my breast reduction scars. I got a pretty large tattoo and it came out EXACTLY, no BETTER than I wanted. The scars are completely covered and I'm left with a beautiful piece of art. Not to mention that this isn't exactly the most comfortable place to get a tattoo, but I felt comfortable and at ease. I also love how he gave me a little card with the after-care on it. It is so handy. I already have a couple of friends who have said that they want to go see him because of my tattoo. I've gotten several tattoos from Ray and a few fixed. His work is amazing, clean lines. The shop is probably the cleanest shop that I have ever been in. He will chat with you during the tattoo or put on a movie, it's nice to be distracted. He's focused, so he works at a pretty good pace. Read Less

I am super impressed with the gentleman that I spoke with on the phone, Ray. I called about 10 minutes before the shop opened with a very strange request about sterilizing a piece of an equipment. Unfortunately for me, the shop did not have an autoclave but Ray spent nearly 15 minutes on the phone with me discussing sanitation, cost of disposables, etc. He was so patient with me, very knowledgeable and very kind and I appreciated it. I learned more from him than any teacher I had. Even though I didn't get a tattoo from Ray or anyone in the shop, I would feel confident that I would be safe in terms of sanitation and hygiene. In February, my husband and I went to Altered Flesh. We got our 1st tattoos with our friend (her 4th tattoo). The first thing I'd like to say is we had been snubbed rudely at another tattoo parlor before in Santa Clarita, so when we walked in to ask for our tats we were worried but the workers at Altered Flesh were really friendly and welcoming. We got exactly what we wanted and for a good price! Darlene did both my husband and my tattoo. She was nice and made our 1st tattoos a good experience. Got my first tattoo done here a few days ago after making an appointment about one month in advance as he gets booked really quickly. The shop was cool and looked clean. There were no other customers or people hanging around and I had the shop and artist to myself and my girlfriend. Ray is really cool and definitely made me feel comfortable and less nervous. I just emailed him my design and he did the rest from there. My tattoo came out exactly how I wanted and he whole process took about 35 min. I got my tattoo super last minute and with no appointment (but it was just luck, don't depend on doing a walk in because ray is booked and busy most of the time). I was amazed by how nice Ray was from the beginning. He worked with my friend and I and helped us decide on size, font, and design. He was super funny throughout the whole session and it really made me feel more comfortable and less anxious. I would definitely recommend coming here to see Ray. I will come back for sure! I can't even being to say how amazing ray is. We started my sleeve in February. I didn't have much of a plan for it but he helped a lot. Some stencils I had and then I just let him run with it. Most of my arm is freehand. His shading and line work are amazing. Awesome colors. I still have a few sessions left for my arm but so far I love it. Can't wait to see it when it's all finished. Then I'll have to think of something else to get just so I can hangout with him. Ray is hilarious and it's never a dull moment when you're in his shop. I never write reviews, but Ray totally deserves one. He is so awesome as a person and as an artist. He did a free hand on my leg, which I never had before. I trust him 100% behind the gun & the results are beautiful. The line work is perfect and the shading adds that extra touch that makes it stand out that much more. I'm already getting compliments on it & I've only had it for a few hours and plus I have about a few hours left to finish the piece. Also, he is so cool to talk to throughout the whole session... I got my calf done today by Ray and I can not be any more happy than I am now with the outcome! Ray has a very clean shop and an entire wall of certifications, so you know you're going to be taken care of really well. On top of that, Ray was very accommodating to my nerves and allowed me to get some water and squeeze a stress ball to get my mind off of things. The detailing on my tattoo is remarkable and the entire piece was done in under 2 hours, Ray has a light hand and he works at a good pace! I've been getting tattoos for 15 years and I've never had as good an experience as I have with Ray at Altered Flesh. His shop is immaculately clean and he is extremely clean / safe when handling his clients. I've seen medical doctors wearing latex gloves that aren't as contaminant conscious as Ray. He made me feel very comfortable and confident with regard to cleanliness and safety. On to the artwork. Anyone can pick up some tattooing equipment and call themselves a tattoo artist. With over 25 years of tattooing experience, Rays work speaks for itself. He completely transformed multiple "botched" pieces on my arms into absolute masterpieces. He never rushed, always paying attention to every detail. I also appreciated that he didn't try to squeeze more money out of me when I asked him for minor adjustments or additions. Ray is a true artist and master of his craft. No offense to the profession, but tattoo artists (generally speaking) can be a little rough around the edges. Not Ray, he's a true professional. Tried this tattoo parlor for the first time. Ray set up an appointment with me and he was able to get me in a good time. We talked about what I wanted. He was a very humble and down to earth man.Ray did an amzing job on my tattoo. Crisp line work, shadowing, blends of colors, and the detail work was beautiful and everything about it is great. No cons or negatives about this piece of art. Through the process we talked and he had a good sense of humor and he was very knowledgeable about tattoos and the healing processes. This place is awesome! I got my nose pierced today, and everything went smoothly. ($40 + $10 to upgrade to the nose ring I wanted, so $50 in total). Everyone there was great, easy to get a long with, and my friend and I had a great time! (We also were walk-ins on a Saturday afternoon, and were able to be seen right away, which was awesome!) Rachel was very knowledgeable about everything that had to do with my piercing, and answered all my questions, making sure I was okay, and knew how to treat it in the after-care. My wife and I go to Ray for all of our tattoos, and he does an amazing job. The shop is always clean and kept up nicely. When you come in for a quote he is always quick to tell you how much it will be, and always sticks to it. He is very inexpensive and the quality of his work is very good! I have severe scar tissue on my arms, and he is the only tattoo artist that agreed to work on me. Because of the nature of the scar tissue there are touch ups that need to be done, but he is always more than okay with doing the touch ups at no cost to me. He puts movies on and has interesting conversation every time we go in, so it's not just about getting tattooed, it's more so hanging out with a friend when we are there. We usually go see him about once every month or so and are more than pleased with the results. Go see Ray! You wont regret it! :) Also, do not listen to the girl that commented below a few reviews. There were customers coming in when I was getting my chest tattoos and I was not even bothered by it. You are in a tattoo shop, if you want privacy, go somewhere else. People are going to want to be onlookers to the work you're getting done, it's a fact. Ray is more than accommodating when you bring him a sketch. Any time I bring in a picture, he makes a copy, traces it, and gives me exactly what I want. He does talk to customers when they come in, but he ALWAYS changes gloves in between, and he NEVER loses track of what he is doing. My wife has gone to him for 2 years and her tattoos are still pretty. If you're in the sun, and depending on the type of your skin, you will need touch ups. But unlike most tattooers, Ray will tell you, "Hey, come in and get a touch up". Don't let one bad review stop you from dropping by! Read Less

I've sat in Raymond's tattoo chair 3 times, and am very pleased with each tattoo that I've received. I got my first tattoo at this shop. Raymond is very patient, and courteous. He goes over what to expect when getting your first tattoo, and is thorough when it comes to placement of the art. I got my first tattoo in 2006, and it hasn't faded at all. The following tats still look good as well. He is priced very competitively, considering the quality of work you end up. During the tattoo, he usually puts on a movie which is a clutch move. Personally, I don't really feel like chatting it up while the artist is hitting my skin with the needle. The movie helps shift my attention. Getting tattoos obviously doesn't feel like rolling around on a cloud, but it's not death either. You don't have to see Kat Von D for a quality tattoo. Read Less
