I'm conflicted. I don't know whether I should give a one or five-star review. A one star review for lack of customer service and professionalism or a five-star review for treating me so horribly, I went to someone else and got the tattoo I wanted. To clarify, I came in wanting to get my first tattoo. A friend of mine said it was good place to get wording done so in my mind this was the spot. The shop was empty on a Sunday afternoon, maybe that should have been my first warning. I came in with a pic of the writing and placement I wanted on my side. Seemed pretty straight forward. Dustin talked to me, looked up the font and printed out a version he felt was good. His print-out didn't resemble the picture, so I didn't want to go forward. He tried a couple of different times to sketch it out and each time, it wasn't quite right. I guess he finally had enough after around 15 minutes and said that maybe I should work with Bryn. Fine. I'm easy going, but more importantly I want to make sure it's going to be EXACTLY what I want because it's permanent. So, Bryn and I start talking about what I want. Dustin leaves and a few minutes later comes back and confronts me that he felt that things got weird between us and that he felt that I was telling him how to do his job. Awkward. I wasn't, I just know what I want. Bryn had to apologize for Dustin's demeanor and took his time to research fonts for me and try to sketch out my request. Unfortunately, he didn't really capture the picture properly, so I declined. At this point, things got uncomfortable. Now they are ganging up on me, telling me that I don't know what I want. Clearly, I do, since I brought a picture of what I wanted, it's not really my fault you can't recreate the picture I brought you. Then telling me that "other people show us pics and love what we show them." Apparently, I'm not other people. At this point, I just want to leave the shop. They apologized for going hard on me and making it weird and I really kept trying to make the best of it Honestly, it felt more like Tattoo shop 101 with me getting skooled. I say this because I was surprised at the level of defensiveness and I also got put down about the font style I chose and I guess it wasn't considered cool that I chose my art from IG and Pinterest. What can I say, I'm just a simple peninsula girlie girl who knows what she likes! At one point, I very carefully asked Dustin if he knew of anyone else who specialized in wording or fonts. A pretty standard practice when an artist can't/won't do the work requested. Dustin straight up declined saying, "I'm not gonna refer you and give someone else business." No insecurity there. Bryn again had to apologize for Dustin, but the damage was done. Bryn seems nice, just neither of them could do the work I wanted. I left there but then met up with Sarah at Royalty Tattoo Collective in Burlingame, she took the time to work with me, got it right and I love my new tattoo! After writing this up, I guess I'll go with the one star and write Sarah, her own five-star review.
