Yelp comes through again!I was in the city for a show at DNA Lounge and was walking down the sidewalk and saw that Lefty's was a few doors down. I figured hey why not I'm feeling adventurous today and checked yelp to make sure it was a good tattoo shop.My friend and I walked in an hour before they closed and asked if they were still available. The owner, Kevin, was the one who worked on my tattoo and I'm in love! I got the Golden Gate Bridge on my ankle and it came out perfectly! I'm very happy with the tattoo that I got!  I spend a lot of time in Soma , and after doing some research online,  they were able to squeeze me in unexpectedly. I told the artist my vision, he sketched it in front of me and it was perfect. I was in and out in less than an hour and a, extremely satisfied with the result. I wish they would've provided written  instructions for aftercare because they the type of wrap they used had me confused about when to remove it. Having paper instructions would be helpful. Had a tattoo which I've never liked, it was a coverup and I had it tweaked a couple of times trying to make it better by other artists but never nice enough, I wasn't satisfied. This is a looooooong overdue review. I've been coming to this shop since the day I turned 18. 22 now, tried out a different shop or two, had a bad experience, and came right back here. My overall experience here is great. I come in, spit out my ideas, and they always draw me up something that I absolutely love. I always leave with something i'm super satisfied with and at a great price. These dudes rule and I will continue going to them for my work. I always get compliments on the street for my tattoos and how unique they are, and that's all I can really ask for. Tattoos that actually represent me. They do an amazing job putting my thoughts into art.They work with what I want and around my schedule and price range. They're good dudes working a good shop. I highly recommend coming in for a consultation. They'll sit down with ya and ask you about what you want and recommend their ideas too. Overall, great shop and you should def check them out. They are super nice and quick! I was here for the Friday 13th $20 tattoo deal. They called us when it was our turn so awesome. They were quick but didn't rush. Guys there super friendly and funny. The ATM is inside since they only took cash. Not much room but there was a couch I was lucky enough to sit in and wait for 2 other friends. My Friend and I walked into the shop in need of having to print a concert ticket minutes before the venue doors opened. The artists in the shop were extremely friendly and welcoming and let us use their printer. We offered to give them money or buy them something to eat or drink and they refused our multiple offers.As we were leaving they wished us well at the concert and made a few jokes. I had wanted to get three hearts on my foot for a while and liked what I saw about Lefty's on yelp, so I went. Jake had ideas to make my hearts more interesting - like giving them an ombre effect and outlining them in white. I LOVE my tattoo. It turned out better than I imagined. Got my Buddhist elephant here. I was nervous considering it's a big piece (half sleeve) but after I saw the sketch I fell in love I knew it'd be great ! And the end result was perfect . Going back in two weeks to get my shading done . Definitely showed my tattoo off to my friends and let them know this was a great place to go . Mr Siichi you sir are a gentleman! Went today for my Friday the thirteenth tattoo. It was a total mad house! We arrived at 245ish to get on a very long list. We waited........we waited some more...then we walked around. Then we saw a friend across the street. Then we waited. We saw many people get turned away to get on this very long list. Finally after three long hours of waiting, we were called!!!!!! Mr Siichi and I discussed the placement and colors, he prepared as I tried not to vomit, as neck tattoos are not a joke. If you have any respect for yourself, you will avoid this tattoo shop.Let's talk about the WORST experience I have EVER had at a tattoo shop. actually... the WORST experience I've ever had dealing with a business all together.It's Friday the 13th and Lefty's is doing 13 dollar tattoos. One of my friends works in the city & we worked all day & Lefty's says on their Yelp that they're open till 10, so we decide to go. I show up at 6:45 & the guy at the front (dark skinned guy with freckles all over his face, wearing a Cincinatti Reds hat) tells me the wait is looking rough right now. I say "well, I just came on BART from Oakland & my friend is coming, so id love to hang & see what the chances are of being seen". he says ok, I put my name on the list, & that's that.So then, my friend shows up around 7:15. He comes out again, doesn't ask her what tattoo she's getting, & says that there's a chance they can't see us tonight. So I say I'm pretty confused why not & he said "we close at 8". I said "your Yelp says 10. Again, I just came across the bay to your shop to get this small quick tattoo with my friend. I'd really like the opportunity to see if we can get seen". Dude shrugs his shoulders & says "Our closing time is ambiguous- we can close when we want. Everyone came from somewhere. everyone's got a story. There's a 99% chance we can't see you tonight. I sacrificed getting a tattoo myself today because they've been so busy."  COOL DUDE. YOU WORK THERE. I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR YOU.   Again, a 99% chance & no where else to be, we decide to wait& wait& waituntil 8:15 comes & these girls come by. They were just passing by & LUCKY THEM. Lefty's was so kind to squeeze them in- in front of us 2 & the other 2 girls that were still there waiting. How nice of them to put 2 people in front of people that have been waiting hours for their tiny tattoos.  So we keep waiting & are under the assumption that we're gonna get our tattoos. Why wouldn't we? These 2 women just got theirs. Throughout the whole 2+ hours we're there, no one acknowledged us. Not even a "hey" from an artist. If someone had come up & said "we can't tattoo you" and gave me a LEGIT answer as to why... we could have left. but this wishy washy piece of shit at the front counter did a pretty bad job at that.As we're waiting, it's 9:05, & the phone rings. The guy that answers the phone is yelling at the person on the other end to talk louder into her phone. My guess is that the person on the phone asked when they closed. He said "we're closed". The person on the phone must have challenged him, just as I did, about closing at 10. He lied to her, said it's 5 to 10 & SCREAMED some loud choice 4 letter words at her, called her a "fucking bitch" & hung up on her. He then looked at the other 2 girls waiting & said "they can come in & get a tattoo right now if they want & trust me... they'll get a great tattoo, but I'll make sure it fucking hurts"At this point, I don't want these dudes to touch me. However now we've waited all this time, & we want to be acknowledged. We were aware at this point that we weren't getting our tattoos so we wanted to hear how this was gonna go.   Some guy, who I assume is the owner, had a beard was wearing flip flops went and met with the dude in the Reds hat in the bathroom area & the guy in flip flops comes out & says "so what's the deal? I thought there were only 2 on the list? Cuz if you want tattoos, I'm out of ink". I had to ask if he was even talking to us since he was talking across the shop instead of coming & talking to us like normal human beings. At this point it was 10 & I told the dude that we had been there for 3 hours trying to get tattoos & he looked at the guy in the hat & said "I thought you said there were 2 on the list" he said "yeah, these 2" & pointed at the other girls & I said "no. there's 4 on the list. I know, because I put our names on there" & the 2 other girls said "yeah there were 2 people on the list after us" & the guy in the hat who had been a complete dick to us all night said "if you want a tattoo tonight, you'll worry about yourself".   So I flipped these dudes the finger and left.Here's a novel concept- If you close at 8, DON'T SAY YOURE OPEN TILL 10 ON YOUR YELP ACCOUNTAlso, If you can't handle the demand of doing Friday the 13th tattoos.... DONT DO THEM!I will be sharing this review on my Facebook & Twitter & if this review stops even ONE person from going to your shop, then I'm happy.I have never been treated less like a human being in my life. I'd like to know what I did to be so ostracized. What did the dark skinned freckley dude in the hat have against me that he was DETERMINED for us to not get a tattoo from the second I walked in. Whoever this guy is working your front counter should be fired. I understand tattoo shops aren't known for being nice all the time, but you run your business on your reputation. Came in for a small line work tattoo on my wrist on Tuesday, was happy to see their shop minimum was only $50.  I'm really bummed I forgot to get the name of my tattoo artist but he was very friendly and made the process super easy. I have a few tattoos already so this wasn't my first time in the chair but I appreciated his calming and funny conversations. His line work was good, I am waiting for it to heal to see the lines up close. Shop was clean and is rather small. It's good for walk ins when you have a small, not too detailed piece. Read Less

My friend and I were in the city visiting for Pride weekend, and were headed to DNA lounge. when we saw the huge line there we decided to cross the street and go to Butter. But alas, we struck up a convo with Lefty himself, outside of his shop next door. From there my friend decided to get a tat that she had been wanting on her finger. She convinced me to get my first! We each got small tattoos for a wonderful price. Lefty did mine, Token did hers. They were both awesome and so friendly. It was a lovely experience. This is a weird little place off to the side of Irving towards the residential area. The person had their lower apartment converted over to shop because of the commercial residential zoning for that area. The place is hard to find without the exact address because they are the 3 house down from the corner and there is a large staircase blocking the view. Read Less
