Owen is a rockstar!! I couldn't be more impressed and happy with the super intricate MC Escher piece he did for me. Pre tattoo he drew up a couple options to make sure it wasn't just a great piece of art but that it would look good on my body. He really understood the angles and after two placements nailed the perfect spot (I chose the first one and am so glad I listened to him round 2!) The linework is gorgeous. He managed to get eyes and detail on the wings of birds smaller than an inch. During the process he was really attentive to my pain tolerance (it was on the inside of my arm), checked in with me for breaks and my comfort level. Music and people were chill. AMAZING shop for getting my very first tattoo!Quick backstory - I had been sitting on the idea of getting a tattoo for about 5 years but I wanted to wait until I was hired for my first paid zookeeper position to get one (was hired for a year long apprencticeship last year, yay!). When I was coming up on my completion date I started poking around for shops to visit and a friend of mine sent me a link to Cyclops' website. Jason's portfolio immediately caught my eye, as I had in mind an art nouveau style portrait of one of the animals I had worked with. I sent him an email with my idea and a photo of the animal in question, and he replied back promptly saying he was interested in the project and we set up a consultation. I brought in a rough sketch of the image I wanted, but I told Jason that I trusted his artistic vision to make it even better. He was so friendly and approachable and very easy to talk to, which made me (a tattoo newbie) feel a lot more comfortable.Ended up having to reschedule my first appointment due to getting an extension of my apprenticeship, but it was definitely well worth the wait. I was a bit nervous as I had no idea what to expect (other than knowing it was going to hurt). But as soon as I got to see the illustration that Jason I had drawn up any nervousness I had went away and I knew I was in good hands - he made the whole experience so easy for me, giving me advice before we started. That first session went so well and it really gave me a lot more confidence when I went in for session 2 to get it all colored (was definitely more excited than nervous the second time around!). The coloring went way quicker than I was expecting (a testament to his talent), and I couldn't be happier with the result. Overall my experience at Cyclops was wonderful - the shop is very clean, easy to get to from BART, and I loved the cozy intimate feel of the place. I worked with Jason for a 6 session/21 hour leg sleeve. His work is incredible!! I don't have a tattoo, I have a beautiful piece of permanent artwork! In love with my tattoo! I knew he was the tattoo artist for me when, upon initial description of what I wanted, he said "OK, so you want a dragon, European dragon or Asian dragon?" I felt so comfortable around him, everyone in the shop is nice, understanding, good conversation, good music, great location, really good to-go food in the area as well. I cried at two sessions (out of six) and Jason didn't make fun of me, just gave me helpful advice and tips. Highly recommend! Book in advance, Jason fills up months ahead of time. Jason's work is stunning! He's extremely versatile and very nice to work with. I gave him an idea of what I wanted and the style, and he put together a gorgeous woodland scene with life-like animals that he executed amazingly. He also (and I know that this probably wasn't super fun for him to do) saved an older tattoo I had by giving it better shading and detail, so I was super grateful for that. Just had my first tatt few days ago with Jason. I cannot tell you how happy I am with the artistry and the professionalism I experienced with him. He is very a very humble artist with years of experience in tattooing. Before deciding on Jason, I had gone to about 15 different shops in the city. And my personal impression was that we had one of the best tattooers in the country. And I am very pleased that I had chosen Jason for my first tattoo. Jason really took his time to get to 100% of the design I wanted it on my shoulder. And at the end, Voila! After years of deciding on whether I should get a tattoo, what to get and where to place it, there came months of finding the artist to help me tie the knot with my tattoo... I asked zillion of people for recommendations and read through a bunch of portfolios and reviews. Once I saw Jason's work,  I knew immediately I found the one (artist that is)...Despite the sketchy look of the building entrance and the neighborhood, the shop was really nice and clean. Jason was so professional and friendly, and he reassured me that I made a good choice. Then came the big day, it was not at all what I expected my first experience to be... I came in and showed Jason what I wanted again. He drew the piece and added some twist to it so it'd have more perspective. I got a small piece, still I thought it would hurt a bit (tattoo hurts - they wrote it on the board)... Actually, it didn't hurt at all (maybe because I am thick skin - literally and figuratively). The tattoo got done quickly and it was lovely. Thank to Jason for making my first tattoo experience so easy. There is no guarantee but we have a feeling we would meet again for another tattoo (or several, who knows). His rate was very reasonable considered his talent, and hey everything is expensive in San Francisco. Either you are getting another piece of art or you are getting a first tattoo like myself, I can't recommend Cyclops enough. Jason is a true professional. He said all the right things during a tattooing process that can be stressful, yet rewarding. His work is remarkable and attention to detail seems to come second nature to him.I got my first rib tattoo from Jason. He gave me a price estimate for about 2 hours of work.
