I am new to San Diego and finding a new artist took a lot of research in shops and via Instagram ( johnjuantattoos ) I discovered John through Instagram and was astonished by his black and white realistic tattoos. He was quick to respond and worked very well with my very original idea for a tattoo. Building trust with your artist is extremely important to me because I have made mistakes in choosing the wrong artist to tattoo me in the past which led to hours of covering up. I will say he is the most talented artist in San Diego. It is good to know I can count on his versatile style even though he specializes in black and white. Frankie was super awesome. I had been thinking for a while about getting a simple palm tree silhouette, but even for something relatively simple I am super picky and didn't like some of the images I saw on other shops' pages or their attitude toward simpler tattoos--I hate it when people try to tell me what I want. I read the reviews on here and called up one day. Frankie said I could come into the shop within the hour (he had an opening) and we could sit down and find the exact image I wanted. He sat with me for like a half hour getting it just right and then placed and replaced it three times until it was in the perfect spot on my back. It was great having someone so understanding of my attention to detail. He was quick and I got to watch the Avengers while he did his thing. Great experience! Read Less

I first went to John, the owner of this shop, a few years ago when he was working at a different shop. I found that place on Yelp and went in to see if someone could fix a quarter sleeve tattoo that just didn't turn out how I wanted it. I spoke with John and immediately felt that he knew exactly what I was trying to explain, and he could make this tattoo into what I had originally wanted and then some. If you are nervous about getting your first tattoo, or if you are just looking for a great artist to get more work done or even fix what someone else screwed up, he is your man. He has great customer service and makes you feel important from the first minute. Some places act almost annoyed that you would even show up and seem to forget that you are getting something permanent on your body forever. Besides being just a great tattooer, he is a great artist and takes pride in every piece he does. He is a perfectionist and uses top of the line everything. Recently when I contacted John to get more work done on my other arm, I was happy to hear that he had just opened up his own place. They are still getting the place dialed in, but it is already a awesome shop with a very clean, good vibe. I would strongly recommend John to anyone, wether it be your first tattoo or if you are covered in tattoos already. He is One of the elite artists in the county for sure. Read Less

There is not enough awesome stuff I can say about this place. If you want the best tattoo, from a no bs artist, talk to John. He will absolutely work with you and be straight up and how he works.
