I had a great experience getting my first artwork done with Erik Guy (@erikguytattoos). First off, the shop just moved across the street. No they're not closed just wanted to make a nicer space. Secondly Erik was awesome. Communicated a lot to help get my artwork sketched out right had great feedback and did a lot of work on his own time. He was flexible around my travel days in San Diego and he also works in Hermosa often so that's good to know too. The new space was coming together while i was there. The music was on blast, the guys were having fun and it was a great vibe. I had zero issues with the process. The prep and execution were great. A little over three hours total and i've got my amazing homage to my beloved Washington Capitals finally winning the Stanley Cup. Super easy process. Very thorough. Very solid guy and amazing artist. I found this shop through Instagram and stumbled upon one of their artists Erik. Immediately I was drawn to his black and grey work, particularly with stipulations. I made an appointment with him and was greeted by some of the nicest/coolest people ever. Erik showed me a variety of designs and helped me pick out the perfect one and find the perfect placement. This was especially important to me because this was my first tattoo. He made sure I was comfortable and always checked up on me throughout the time he was tattooing me. The tattoo came out better than I could have ever imagined and I'm absolutely in love with it! I will definitely be back for some more of Erik's work! Two of my girl friends and I got inked by Denny today. My husband got all of his tattoos done by Denny so I wanted to stay loyal and follow him from Avalon (his previous shop) to Even Keel. I came here for my first tattoo and was very nervous until the staff here calmed me down. They are amazing and they were able to just sit with me for a bit before we started. They allowed me to look at everything first and even talked me through the process! This shop is amazing and Tim Howell is about as good as it gets in his style of tattooing. I've got about 30 tattoos and Tim is by far my favorite artist. I don't have a single complaint about him or the shop. The shop is clean and decorated really cool. Tim have done two large pieces on my arm and I won't go to another traditional artist. He totally exceeded expectations both times I've been to see him. I've already got another appt. with him and I will always have an appt. on the books. I was here for the toys for tats event. Super cool idea to help kids get their Christmas goods. I have been to a ton of Friday the 13th tattoo events and have waited at the shops all day. This event was ran super smooth and I didn't have to wait long at all. Got this Christmas shark to commerate the toys for tat event. They got lots of toys, made tons of kids happy and some cool tats went out into the world. Definitely going back for more tats. To be honest I wasn't really worried about it because of the talent he has. But, what I presented to him was able to work. So I gave him free range to make it how he felt was best. There aren't enough adjectives to properly describe how much Nate rocks his craft! He handles a tattoo gun better than a trained assassin handles his katana. His inking techniques are flat out the best you're going to get this side of the "wall". I've been getting quality work from Nate since 2013 and no matter where out in public, I'm stopped and have a conversation about the half sleeve he did.Not only are you going to get Grade A work from Nate, but you'll get a hilarious session filled with awesome banter between him and the other artist, music you're sure to dig and go download after the fact and all and all an awesome experience. Tim Howell is amazing. I get my tattoos done by him because His line work and artistic talents are amazing. I trust him doing tattoos on me. I have my side done, my thigh, and my upper back, and I ALWAYS get compliments on my tattoos. He is also very friendly and I am always very comfortable getting work done by him, he is NOT creepy like a lot of other male tattoo artists can be. Even Keel is a fantastic little shop in Pacific Beach. The shop is clean, well lit, with artwork all over the walls, and you really feel at home in there. Their chairs are really comfy, and they offer memory foam pillows if you are laying on your back for a tattoo, which is a really nice touch! The four artists who work there are incredibly friendly, helpful people. They really care about what they do, and know their strengths and weaknesses. I walked in seeking a couple of traditional nautical tattoos, and was introduced to Tim Howell, who specializes in American Traditional. He is, by far, the best tattoo artist I have ever worked with. He is fast, efficient, his workmanship is impeccable, and he keeps the conversation going while he's working. He tattooed both my elbows, as well as swallows on my chest, and they have come out amazingly. He even offered to touch up my elbows a bit when I came in for my swallows a few weeks later, and really brought the color out in them. I highly recommend him. The other three, Nate, Kyle, and Denny are all amazing, their work is also on point, and my friends who have been tattooed by them have had great results also. One of my closet girlfriends had been talking about getting her first tattoo,  when we decided to go to birthday Brunch in pb, I knew we had to come to evenkeel. Even Keel Tattoo has over 65 years of combined tattooing experience, and these talented artists have worked in pretty much every style imaginable. The artists are totally professional but laid back and super fun to work with on anything from large scale projects to single session bangers. You like shark tattoos? It is very common for people to walk up to me at the beach or at a dayclub to compliment me on my backpiece. I have been told several times, "You have the most beautiful tattoo I have ever seen", and in my humble opinion...it is NOT an understatement! Nate's linework and use of color are second to none. If you desire a gorgeous design that involves anything from Nature; fauna, flora, or even a bio-mechanical piece, Nate is your guy! Moreover, I would have to say his best trait as a tattoo artist is his ability to design tattoos that compliment his client's unique anatomical structure. He wont tattoo something on a spot on your body if he feels it doesnt flow right. He is the type of tattoo artist that isnt afraid to vocalize his input especially when he feels it will be for the best of the tattoo's aesthetic quality.
