I called last minute because I'm being adventurous and want to get a tattoo right away. Found this gem. And right away I got tatted. One thing I noticed is the cleanliness of the shop. Great location the inside is clean. The needle and equipments are with plastic and wrap clean. Jose did my tattoo. He did the design based on how I wanted. I liked it. And decided to go for it. He did his best to cover up my old tattoo. He did a good job I know he tried although still show a little bit. I like how he took his time to make sure he got the location right. My boyfriend and I decided on crown tattoos awhile back, prior to visiting Sacramento. I am a very picky person when it comes to finding a tattoo artist and with the right one, I would travel from afar. Luckily this was the case at White Bufallo Gallery.I can gladly say I now have a new tattoo artist named Saul. Our experience was like no other, Saul is a friendly, yet highly professional artist. As mentioned, we are not from Sacramento. We did not have an appointment, but I knew we had to get our tattoo from Saul. Even though he had a very busy schedule, he made accommodations for us to make sure we left Sacramento with his wonderful art piece with us.Saul made us feel very comfortable in all senses: changing the music to our liking, making sure periodically how we were doing while being tattooed. He assured us he was using proper sanitation and using fresh needles by showing us (which I highly appreciated because I'm paranoid). Overall, we felt Saul went above and beyond and I couldn't be happily with our experience!!(I will edit this post later to upload pictures of our amazing tattoos! If you are looking for a stellar artist in Sacramento Ryan El Dugi is the number one. Being born and raised in Sacramento you would think if you want a good tattoo you would have to go to a big city but I couldn't have been more wrong. Ryan listened to my ideas for a full sleeve added in his artistic input and I could not be happier with the results. I was referred to Natasha by one of my clients and after reviewing her work online i had to make an appointment.  after several emails, i skipped a consultation and I was excited for my new tattoo.  After getting to the shop she worked with me for about 45 min, fine tuning the details of the tattoo.  The tattoo itself took about 2-3 hours but she made sure i was comfortable.  I am so in love with the final result. My whole experience with White Buffalo specifically Natasha was awesome! I emailed Natasha and setup an appointment for a consultation and then for the tattooing a couple weeks later . I brought some ideas and she asked me a bunch of questions then designed my tattoo and a week or so later sent me a picture of it on my leg. I was able to view it and decide if I wanted any changes. I thought it was perfect she did everything asked for. On the day of the tattooing we looked at it on my leg and decided on a little change which made it even better. Ryan was able to bring life to an idea I had but I lacked the skill to put it on paper or skin. He worked with me in the design, making sure that my idea came to life through his hands. During the session I felt taken care of, was able to watch a couple soccer matches, and most importantly I felt at home. I got a friday the 13th tattoo from Saul and I was so happy and lucky. There were hundreds of people who came and signed up and most left. I and a friend sat it out and they were so appreciative of our patience. We had a great time chilling with all the other people waiting. There was donuts, pizza, and soda, and a few people headed to the bar nearby. The shop is very clean with an upscale atmosphere, more art gallery than punkrock. And Saul was so gentle and aaccomodating I love my beautiful wolf and I cant wait to get another tattoo from him. All the artists were very honest about their styles and preferences, my freind got hers from Natasha and its adorable. The prices were beyond amazing since it was friday the 13th deals, but I still expected the flash to be smaller or more expensive. All around a great way to spend the day! Read Less

Worst experience of my life. While their work appears to be quite good, the service is horrific. This was my first time trying to get a piece done by someone I don't know personally, and I've definitely learned my lesson not to try it again. Waited for over an hour for the artist to show, never did, and never bothered to email, call, or text me. So glad I took a vacation day  for this. I officially will tell people that my tattoo man is Sam! He's done two of my pieces so far and I seriously love him and the tattoos he's done on me. The place itself is so relaxing and it has a "home" feeling but it's also rad. Sam is super honest and knows his stuff when it comes to tattooing and art. I definitely recommend Ryan for your next piece. I got a black/white Phoenix done on my shoulder to my back. He knocked it out in (2) 6-7 hour sessions. My artist was Saul, and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was so professional and kind from beginning to end, and he's so talented. Me and my sister wanted sister tattoos last minute, and Saul made time for us with custom images hand-drawn in a time crunch. As soon as I saw his drawing I was so excited. He was very light handed and kind and encouraging through the process for both me and my sister. It was such a wonderful experience. The studio is incredible, too. It's a small shop conveniently with a small private parking lot in the back and near coffee shops and eateries so you can greg something to eat before getting your latest work of art. All the artists are exactly that - artists. There's no flash art on the walls, no intimidation, just beautiful, kind artists ready to share their talent with you.I loved how small the shop was. It felt private and casual while feeling a little upscale. You're surrounded by works of art made by the artists, wowing you and assuring you that you made the right choice. I ended up in conversations with all the other artists and their clients, which was a great distraction from the pain and entertaining. My husband plans to go back to get a full sleeve from Nick next year, and I'm already thinking about what I can get next from Saul. This place was great the first time I went there and I got tattooed by kenzai. I made a follow up appointment and that's where they/he dropped the ball. I paid my deposit up front and then sent him an email well in advance to let him know I would have to reschedule. I received no response and then he finally reached out to me and said I forfeited my deposit for not showing up. I sent him a screenshot of the email I had sent him and never received a response. Now he is saying my deposit isn't refundable and I need to pay another deposit for him to tattoo me. I lost all respect for his work and he is a joke. Obviously this guy isn't in it for the art and passion of tattooing, rather a quick way to make cash. Way better options out there, as Kenzai is no better then getting tattooed by some dude in his garage. Read Less

Pricy but worth the cost. These guys are all booked months out and for good reason. I've had a sleeve worked on for a few visits now by Nick and I'm genuinely blown away by the level of detail in his work. Nick does awesome work!I'll admit I was a little nervous. All our initial contact was by email and he didn't really ask many questions. I told him what I wanted, paid the $100 deposit and he gave me my appointment. That was it, I didn't hear anything else from him. So showing up to my appointment I was a little worried. What if the design is all wrong? What if I hate his idea? What if I have to make him draw something new and he gets mad? When we met at my first appointment he showed me the design and it was perfect. I don't know how he did it but he figured out exactly what I wanted and the first try. I told him to have fun with the color, I love comic art and street art, that bold graphic color style with heavy contrast. I scheduled two appointments and I told Nick we'd need at least two because I can't sit for more than 2-3 hrs. First appointment we did the outline and that took about 2.5 hrs, second appointment was color, and I don't know how, but Nick got me to sit for 5.5 hrs to finish it. It's beautiful and better than anything I was hoping for. I'm very pleased with his work and would recommend Nick to anyone who's looking to get a vibrantly colored tattoo. I know I'll be bugging him again as soon as I'm ready for my next piece. Read Less

Came in a month ago to get my 5th tattoo. I was a walk in so I was worried I wouldn't get it done without an appointment. Luckily Sam was able to see me. I wanted a crown but still wasnt sure on the design. Sam was very help full and patient in creating my crown. We agreed on size and placement and got started. Sam's a pretty awsome artist, he pays attention to detail and makes sure your happy with your tatt. The shop is very nice, clean and features amazing artwork. Came in a second time yesterday. Got a little touch up on the crown and we discussed a background to make it have more character and depth. I will start by saying that they are really good artists.  As someone with ink by Donn Davis, Tim Lehi, Brian Everett, amd Grime, I have a great respect for talented tattoo artists and I think Im familiar with the process.So I went in and made an appointment with John Laurent.  i checked out his portfolio beforehand and went in to talk about a full back piece with a nautical theme.  ill just be honest and say that before commiting to a 50+ hour full back piece I want to make sure I get along with the artist and theres a level of mutual respect.   good thing I did!i paid a deposit (mistake 1) for an appt with John Laurent for a medium sized piece on a Saturday afternoon.   i have so many tattoos I want that I figured we could agree on a subject matter (mistake #2) even though he didnt really like the underwater back theme.  i thought about it for quite a while and emailed him a couple weeks before the appt to say I wanted a phoenix.  i been thru some serious you know what so it seemed fitting, and his online portfolio even has a (not very good) phoenix.  but I thought with a couple weeks to work on it he could do a better one this time around.After about three days John emailed me back and said he "Wasnt really stoked to do a phoenix" and "could I please look through these artists he admires for reference and ideas".  ouch!  I did like he said and looked at all 5 artists he mentioned in the email.   they all do almost exclusively skulls, roses, and portraits, all in black and grey (except the roses).  Unfortunately I already have a skull tattoo, a rose tattoo, and a portrait, and while everyone needs ONE of these, no one necessarily needs TWO.   also most of my work is color and I want more color not black and grey.I still wanted to work with John Laurent though and I had already paid the deposit and I want a fleur de lys cause I was made in New Orleans.  so i emailed him back and said not to worry about designing a phoenix, i would just get a black symbol.  this enraged John Laurent.  He shot me back a fiery email informing me that black tattoos also did not interest him and he would have to cancel the appointment since I "couldnt come up with an idea that suits his style".   Wow!so i stopped by the shop and got a refund.  It was awkward.  i think he could have at least done the flat black symbol since I paid a deposit ad waited 2 months for the appointment.  He seemed really angry I had dared to ask for a black symbol.   He angrily waved his book of work under my nose and shouted that he "DOES PHOTOREALISM".  A lot of the work in his portfolio on the web site absolutely is not photorealism.    I told him that some of the work was NOT photorealistic (honestly I think his illustrative work is better and his photorealism is weak).  He shouted "PHOTOREALISM, SURREALISM, HYPERREALISM.... ITS ALL THE SAME!" Demonstrating a painful lack of both artistic knowledge and self-awareness.Anyway this is prob quite a long story.    Takeaways:  John Laurent does not want to work with your ideas and please make sure you want black and grey skulls or photorealism.  do not at all costs think his portfolio on the shop website represents what he wants to do.  I think he may have needed a Snickers.   Lol. I just had Ryan put some ink on me and it was by far the best experience I have had in a tattoo shop, it is the best tattoo I have ever been given as well, I am still stoked about it. Ryan made sure I was happy with what he had come with and it beat my expectation and the finished product blew me away.In the 7-8 hours I was there several other artists came in and were at work as well, and I enjoyed the good conversation that went on between the whole group, made time fly by.  John Laurent and Nick were both laying down some really good ink on their customers so you can't go wrong with these guys, great art, great personalities and great conversation.If I get the opportunity I will definitely be back, it will be hard to find a place that can beat the work produced by these artists.Clean shop, comfortable chairs, they play some nice soothing music at a comfortable level, great place, if you have been thinking about checking these guys out, you gotta do it!! Kenneth is the man! This shop was amazing. I brought in a few different pictures of what I wanted and Kenneth used his artistic talent to create the perfect tattoo and placement for my body.  The shop is incredibly clean and not cluttered, and they remain extremely professional yet friendly. I am absolutely blown away by the work that John did on me. I came to him with an idea a while back, and when it came time to get the actual tattoo he was able to put together an image for me that was exactly what I was looking for. When the actual tattoo was finished, it far exceeded any expectation that I had. All the guys there are truly artists who care about their craft, and that comes across clearly in all their work.The shop itself is very clean and covered in awesome art work. It has a really great energy to it that made me feel comfortable enough to relax throughout the 6 hour or so long procedure. I can't recommend this place enough. It's a bit more expensive than some of the other tattoo shops around Sacramento, but you are absolutely getting what you pay for. I do not want to age myself but when I was 18 (10+ years ago) I had gotten two tattoos that at the time I thought were "bad ass". Needless to say I grew up and was really not feeling my cool tatts and wanted to have them covered up. I found out about Ryan through Yelp in May 2014 (he was working at monster ink at the time) and I called to see if he could do a cover up. The first thing he said was you will have to come by for me to see what you want covered before I say yes. I went in and booked with him for January 2015. By January of 2015 he had opened up white buffalo gallery and what an amazing shop!!! The energy there is so chill and it's a clean shop with art all around. Ryan did a great job on my cover up I was amazed because he made my Quetzalcoatl statue look just like the statue I wanted. During my first time there John and Kenneth were doing tattoos on their clients and they were awesome too. I was in awe at how much talent white buffalo gallery has. We are so lucky to have such talented artists in Sacramento. I came to Ryan to do my second cover up and I love it more than the first. Now they won't do all cover ups (my husband has one that couldn't be covered up) and I appreciate them being honest about it. They do charge quite a bit per hour and they usually are booked out  but you really are paying talented artists to do permanent art on your body and as to the wait; patience is a virtue and some things are worth waiting for. I started my tattoo today & I am soooooo happy with the way it came out. It's perfect. White Buffalo is THE BEST. John Laurent is working on my piece & he is great. Very detailed, professional & nice! Ryan, another artist at the "studio" is an amazing artist as well. They are all award winning artists so they are fairly booked up, especially Ryan. He was talking to some people today and his availability wasn't until November of this year!!!!! He is worth the wait though. Like me, I was antsy and didn't want to wait long, and John is just as good, in my opinion. Anyway, the studio is clean, they even bought us pizza! I thought that was really sweet and something they didn't have to do. Anyway, go here & you won't be upset. Their prices are really reasonable, also. $100 to set an appointment & date. Ryan is hands down the best tattoo artist in the area. I am currently finishing a sleeve from him, and of all my tattoos, his works gets the most compliments from everyone. He really cares about the artistic side of tattooing and it comes across in his work. He is an all around great artist, but he kills it at color and black and gray realism. It is easy to see why people travel from all over to get tattooed by him. I wanted to get my husband his 1st tattoo by a really good artist so I did a Google search for the best tattoo artist in Sacramento. I found Ryan and after looking at his portfolio I immediately booked his appointment. It turned out so good I had to get a tattoo for myself. Then my husband ended up getting an entire back piece from Ryan. I was so impressed with mine and my husband's tattoo that I had to get another one. I wouldn't even think about going to anyone else. White Buffalo is an amazing shop. Well duh....it's owned by an amazing ARTIST. I have been getting tattooed by Ryan Lewis for almost 4 years now and needless to say he nails it every time. Currently he's covering a tattoo that I got on my 18th birthday (not my best choice 13 years ago) with a WWII aviation back piece. He's also done work on my ribs and hip and I'm hoping to have him rework my stomach piece in the near future. The shop is awesome and the gallery makes you feel like you're in a very professional establishment. You don't have the ultra judgmental artists smoking their cigarettes out front like you will at a lot of tattoo shops. You can definitely sit for 5 or 6 hours with Ryan and he chats with you and makes you feel right at home. If you're in the market for a portrait definitely check out his work. Don't have time to go into the shop....he's really on it with Instagram and always gets back to me quickly when I want to set something up. Ryan did an all color, water-color style half sleeve for me that I absolutely love. I get so many compliments on it. He was very professional, friendly and did exactly what I wanted, but better.
