ERIC! He's amazingly talented! He's been my artist since I legally turned 18! I'm 26 now! He's done 80% of my tattoos! I've never had a problem or issue with his work either. I moved away to a beach town for a few years and run a lot in the sun and well of course spent some time drinking outside at the beach a lot! For my 50th birthday, I created a bucket list of the thing I want to do before I pass on.  The top of the list was to get my first tattoo.  It took a month to figure out what I wanted.  I finally decided to do one based on Macbeth.  I did a sketch.  I found a place and discovered they were moving to Walnut Grove.  However, some of the artists were still around. Having saw some of her work on he shop's website, I decided to reach out to Madeline.  I described what I wanted and told her what I was thinking.  She was able to capture it exactly what I wanted at a fair price. She asked questions and provided me with a drawing of the tattoo before creating the stencils.  Maddie as we're each of my questions and was very patient with me. She was gently and though I expected to feel pain, I actually felt like I was getting a massage. When considering a tattoo, think of it as commissioning a piece of art for yourself. In a world of convenience stores and click and ship, remember this is a labor of love that will express a thought, idea, emotion. As such, you want an artist, not paint by numbers. That is what you get at Apothic Heart, an artist where your body is the canvass. While the art created within the shop (yes, they even have real canvass available on the walls) is gallery worthy across the board, my particular experience is with Andre Garcia. He is fantastic with experience in multiple medias and an eye for detail. My journey began in Late January or early February. I stopped by at the recommendation of a friend. Andre was sincere, took the time to get to know me, and we discussed ideas. At the end of the consultation, we had a direction and a first appointment set for March. My tattoo initially took two sessions (finished in May) and when it was finished, wow! It was amazing! I was happy ... and then Andre reaches out and says "I am just not quite satisfied with the work, I'd like to add one additional background detail if you do not mind." I was considering what else to do around the image (this is a shoulder cap that I plan to build around). I looked at it and said "sure."Today was session three and I am so glad Andrea called me in to finish his vision for the art. It is exactly that, art. Andre captured what I asked for in our first meeting. But more than that, Andre listened to my long term thoughts and trusted his own vision. I have a stand alone piece that can easily be integrated into a long term, ever evolving piece. I came to Andre Garcia in my search for someone who was excited and committed to covering all the scars I had on my arms from long ago IV drug use. I had been on the hunt for a couple of years and just didn't get a good vibe from any of the other tattoo artist I talked to. It was a huge psychological step for me to cover what I felt was a deformity. My arms were severely pitted and scarred and misshapen because of all the abuse. 15 years clean and sober they had done all the healing they were going to do.. Anyhow, I heard about Andre through my kids and went in to see him and from minute one he was friendly, unpretentious and excited to work with me. I gave him a just a few wants and gave him a lot of freedom from there. We started about 9 months ago and finished today! The tattoos are amazing coverups. You can't even see the misshapenness or scars. I know they're there and I can't even see it. Now I can wear short sleeves and no more dirty freak show looks. Just compliments! I could not be more happy! 100% from the shop, personality, artistic ability.. the whole sha bang.. Andre has got it all. A big shoutout to Keith Cromie too who just designed another coverup I am going to get on my thigh. I can't recommend this shop highly enough. It's all totally awesome! You can TRUST these artists. They'll take care of you for real! One last thing.. this is a professional shop that is clean and pristine. I have had four sessions and no issues with care or cleanliness. Use common sense! I got my first tattoo by Andre back in June and I cannot express how good my experience was! Since it was my first tattoo, I was really picky with who my artist was. There was a very specific style I was looking for and after looking trough Andre's portfolio, I knew he was the one. I wanted my phoenix to be soft, but fierce at the same time with sort of an ink smear look if that makes sense. I completely trusted Andre because I knew he was extremely talented. I had my tattoo done in 2 sessions, each about 2 hours. I was really nervous for my first session, I was shaking because I can't handle pain very well. But Andre was so nice and really put me at ease. He kept talking me through the process and held up a conversation with me to make me feel more comfortable, which worked! Overall I had an amazing first time experience and I would definitely recommend Apothic Heart to anyone.I also wanted to comment on the one star review someone gave due to an infection. I can vouch that Apothic Heart is sterile and clean. Your artist isn't a doctor and isn't responsible for your aftercare. It is your responsibility to do ample research before and after getting a tattoo. And even if your artist doesn't go over aftercare, it is your responsibility to ask about aftercare if you're unsure. Andre has fixed a few of my older pieces and I've been completely happy with the outcome. The shop is clean, sterile and follows all healthy and safety codes. Apothic has an amazing group of talented artists each with their own specialties and flair. I love that they are also an art gallery and that they host art shows show casing local artists  ! To counter the review about an infected tattoo and not being given proper after care instructions; you sign a contract before receiving your tattoo. After care is not the artists responsibility. All it takes is 1 google search and you could have known days sooner that your tattoo was infected. If you wait multiple days before starting any kind of after care then yes you will get an infection. If you are unsure about aftercare, ask your artist BEFORE you leave ! Apothic Heart Tattoo is a great place to go for art or tattoos. The clean and sterile shop/studio is located in a convenient location right off hwy 50 and there is ample free parking! Walking in the front door, clients and guests are always greeted with welcoming friendly smiles and a laid back casual atmosphere. There is art from various artists displayed on the walls, chill music playing in the background, and very tidy tattoo stations for each artist. Not intimidating at all for any first timers who may wander in out of curiosity! Over the past few years I have had the absolute pleasure of working with Andre Garcia on several of my intricate tattoo projects! I seem to always present him a challenging concept and he always steps up to the plate! Communication is key and Andre is great at making sure appointments are set and consultations are accurate! In fact, he is currently working on a large scale coverup piece for me! I am always impressed with Andre's artistic vision and amazing outcome of the completed tattoos! This is a non-tattoo related post. I recently went to an art show here and while there we purchased two pieces. Not only was the process seamless, but the guys at the shop were quick to keep us updated of when we would be getting these lovelies to put in our house. The only place in Sacramento I would get tattooed! Andre has been tattooing me for close to 8 years and I am never disappointed with my work or experience. He has fixed several mediocre tattoos from other shops into something I can show off and done many beautiful custom pieces for me. The shop is spacious, clean and filled with new beautiful art every time I visit. Very professional and friendly! Andre Garcia is by far my absolute favorite artist that I've been to. I've tried out multiple places with new artists for my tattoos and Andre is the one that clicked for me. I love that his tattoos aren't just one style; he can do black and white, traditional, realistic, watercolor, etc. He takes the time to sketch out your ideas until it's exactly what you want and he makes it a chill environment since he's incredibly easy to talk to and you can relax knowing you're in good hands! I have gotten all of my tattoos from Andre and have been more than satisfied! I had been hesitant in the past to get a tattoo because I was not sure how clean tattoo parlors were so when I shared that with Andre he took me through the steps and showed me how he uses new, disposable needles every time and let me watch him do all the prep so I had peace of mind.  I have now gotten 3 tattoos from him and will be getting my  4th in May.  The quality of my tattoos are awesome and have all healed beautifully.  He is extremely professional and  caring and wants you to be completely happy with the result so he takes his time to work with you on the design to make sure it's exactly what you want before the appointment.  I highly recommend him and admire his work. I am going to update this review I made earlier. I completely deleted the other one because it just didn't feel right and I wasn't completely fair. I am still very disappointed in how I was treated and fully placed to blame on what happened with my tattoo infection.Unfortunately my tattoo was so badly infected that I needed to have a tetanus shot and a antibiotic shot along with medications. I had a fever, my glands were swollen, my arm was extremely swollen and red. The ink was turning grey, liquid seeped out and my skin was cracked and scabbing with blood. This has been a very painful, stressful, and depressing ordeal. Eric tattooed me. I will say that after I really had time to think about the whole situation the ONLY thing I can pin on the artist was not going over everything I needed to know about preventing infection. I am sure it slipped his mind and he figured if I had a question I could text him. I don't know. All I know is I was not properly informed after the tattoo. I later text him asking him again what he told me I needed to wash it with and put on it. That is when he mentioned that he was sorry he didn't go over after care with me. Nor did I think taking showers and getting it wet in there was bad. I take long hot showers and I didn't know I was supposed to keep the tattoo from it as much as I could and that the steam was bad for the ink. I made sure the stream of water didn't hit it but that's about all. I showered like I normally do and I used the anti bacterial soap on my whole body, not just the one arm. I knew that it shouldn't be submerged in water for long but that's it. By day two I noticed my arm was just a bit swollen, red, and tinder. Which is to be expected since it was a new tattoo. So I didn't think much of it because I thought it was normal healing. I haven't been tattooed in close to a decade so I cannot remember how I took care of my other tattoos. I didn't have a problem with any of them and I don't even remember after care with them other than using aquaphor.All I thought about was making sure I cleaned it properly and what ointment to put on it. I never thought to ask what to dry it with. I didn't know that using a towel was incredibly bad. As soon as I came home from the appointment first thing I did was remove the saran wrap and clean the blood and sweat off with the antibacterial soap. Then I used the towel to pat it dry. I used that same towel to repeatedly dry my tattoo when I washed it. I didn't know I was making a huge mistake until after I already had the infection. It was too late at this point. I was upset at Eric not knowing what normal tattoo healing vs abnormal tattoo healing looks like. I sent him pictures and asked if it looked normal. What I should have done was just get to a doctor. For that I cannot hold him accountable. If I was feeling symptoms from infection I should have known better than to shrug it off and hope he tells me that it's normal. Everything else was good. The environment was clean, sterile tools were used, gloves were on, they cleaned my arm, they told me what to wash it with and what ointment to use. They just missed a bunch of other VERY important care instructions.I am not placing all blame on Eric because there is no telling what for sure caused the infection. I do think this could have been prevented if properly discussed. For him to shrug off all possibilities that he is even partly responsible is hurtful. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. He made one and so did I. I made several, but I didn't know any better. He offered to have me come in so he could fix it free of charge but I don't think that's appropriate after everything that's happened and how I was treated. And now I have to pay someone else to fix it. I am hoping that this review will make him and other artists aware of how important it is to go over these kinds of things. Friends or not. Every client deserves the same attention as the next. Not sure if they have print outs with care instructions but if not they need to start doing that! I sure didn't get one and it's not my responsibility to remind him or to ask other people and look online for answers! I will end this review on a positive note. I will admit that Eric is one of the most talented and creative people I have had a chance to meet here. His art and tattooing are amazing. It's different than what I'm used to. I admired his passion for it and that is why I chose him to tattoo me. I was honored he would be doing a tattoo that was very important to me. Which is why I went to pieces when it became infected. My tattoo came out absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately I deleted the pictures of it once it took a turn for the worse. They were just too depressing to look at. Please do not let my review discourage you from choosing Eric if you have not worked with him before. I think this re review was much needed. Andre had fixed a tattoo I had done previously so when I found out that he was opening a shop with some other amazing artists, I was ecstatic. I have had several sessions at Apothic Heart and I could not be more pleased. In addition to the amazing tattoo work, it is also a very impressive art gallery where I recently purchased some of Keith's work. I have seen several of the artists work while I was getting tattooed by Andre and they are all incredible. Not only are they excellent at their craft, but the atmosphere is very laid back. Every time I go there, I feel like I am hanging out with friends, which makes the entire experience so much more comfortable.
