Yesterday I had a chest tattoo done by Caitlin and she was amazing to work with. I greatly enjoyed her professionalism and light-heartedness. She definitely has the right amount of pressure, allowing the needle to do the work without pushing down into my skin (trust me, I've had that before and it sucks). With my tattoo being on my sternum and chest, there were moments it hurt but with the amount of pressure she used, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed consulting with her and obtaining her professional opinion on my design and ways to adjust it to make it even better. I'm glad I did take her advice because it turned out amazing. I would like to start off by saying that I have a lot of tattoos and this by far is the most professional but still fun studio I've been to, it is clean and organized. My tattoo artist is Cailin Major to be more specific, she is understanding if I'm running late due to traffic, is always friendly and has a big smile on her face and she is very flexible with my work schedule, we can always find a good day/time that works for us both. Last but not least, she is attentive when I'm telling her my ideas and really brings my imagination to life in tattoo form. I get complimented daily on them, she has tattooed a piece on my thigh and we are very close to finishing up my sleeve and I am so happy I chose her to do them, not only is her work beautiful but she always makes sure I am 100% happy even if there are minor tweaks to the tattoo..such as more foliage or a different flower, she is always more then happy to revise and come back and show me. I normally give a picture or another tattoo photo as reference and she makes it her own. Cailin has a very creative mind when it comes to this business, one I could only wish I had! I live about 30 minutes away from the shop but would easily drive farther for Cailin's work. I have had the best experience here at Pretty In Ink, I got my first tattoo here and she made it more then I could have imagined, with that being said I will continue to come back her to for a long long time! Not only is she a wonderful tattoo artist but a great person, conversation is always good and it's really great when your tattoo artist is as excited to tattoo it as you are to get it. I had a very poor experience with Cailin today.   I reached out in early March for a relatively simple tattoo of celestial bodies to represent my 6 grandchildren.  On March 26th I received a reply from Cailin saying she would "love to work on this with me" on my tattoo.  She asked me to come in for a consultation, which I did on on March 29th.   The consult  seemed curt, in that Cailin took my name and phone number and then wrote "planets , Jupiter" in a notebook.   She looked at my forearm and then asked me for a deposit.  I gave her a cash deposit and left.  The  entire "consultation " was 5 minutes, which I drove 90 minutes to attend.   She told me if I wanted color to let her know the week before the appointment.   She also scheduled me an appointment for today for the tattoo. I then sent Cailin a photo of a concept for the tattoo just to make sure we were on the same page.  As discussed, one week before my appointment I sent Cailin an email stating that I want some color in the tattoo.   She said okToday I showed up for the appointment.  I was early so I didn't mind waiting.  At my appointment time Cailin said she was running late, which I understood.  At 30 minutes past my appointment time she came out and  showed me the tattoo design on an iPad.   To be frank, it was 3 stars + Saturn + a comet.  She said "this is the best I could came up with".   I told her that I had sent her a concept and didn't understand what happened.    I had sent her a concept and we had exchanged emails just a week earlier about the addition of some color.  The "design" was clearly just some downloaded images from the internet ( I know this because she was surfing on her iPad through images).      It was very obvious that this artist had spent absolutely not time in designing my tattoo.   She simply downloaded some images from the internet on an iPad and called it good.  I ended up saying that I did not like the design and did not want this tattoo..  Cailin said she could 'redesign" but I declined.   I absolutely do not understand why, after 2 months she was not prepared for me today as a client. When I complained in a private email, Cailn took no responsibility for the fact that I spent 2.5 months preparing for my tattoo and she did not spend 5 minutes designing my  tattoo.  End result;  no tattoo,  lost my deposit,  wasted hours going for the 'consult" and today's appointment.  Honestly,  I question the commitment  of this business.  While I was waiting for Cailin,   another couple came in for their appointment for a consult and the artist never showed up.      There was finally a cell phone call from the artist, but she was a no show for 2 appointments. There are a lot of tattoo artists in this area.    I have a tattoo from Diving Swallows in Oakland (AMAZING experience) and Thousand Strokes in San Fran (Also AMAZING).     There is no reason to go to an artist who makes you feel like they just don't give a damn about something as personal as a tattoo.   my recommendation:  stay away from Pretty in Ink. Let me start this by saying do not listen to a single bad review about this place. I have three tattoos from pretty in ink, all of which I never had a single problem getting done, or felt at all like my artist didn't have the time or didn't care about the work I was getting done. I have gone to Cailin for each of my three pieces (one is my full sleeve which is currently a work in progress, I'm about 8 hours in.) I have absolutely NOTHING but nice things to say about her. In fact, I've recommended about 4 of my friends. 3 of which have gone and have loved their experience getting tattooed by Cailin. Yes her consultations are short, but it's more for her to get an idea of what you want. It's your job to let your artist know EVERY little detail in a tattoo, for my sleeve concept we talked it over in the consultation, and I sent her multiple emails explaining in depth exactly what I wanted and had pictures for her to use as reference. Just because she doesn't sit there for 3 hours at a consultation does not mean she doesn't care about your tattoo or designing it. Anyways after the emails I sent her I came in to an absolutely beautiful design, that was hand drawn, not just pictures off the internet. As far as Cailin as a person, there has been a multitude of times where she is visibly excited to be working on a piece, especially with my sleeve, I'm constantly getting "it's gonna look so rad" from her after every session. Being able to feel the excitement from your artist really lets you know she cares, which is incredibly reassuring no matter how many tattoos you have. She obviously loves her job and is very easy to talk to, another reason why anyone saying she's difficult or doesn't care is incredibly wrong. Bottom line, I couldn't recommend Pretty In Ink more, it's a fantastic place, and while I've only gone to Cailin, all of the artists are amazing at what they do and are great to just be around. They'll walk past you and see what you're getting and tell you how much they like it, or make small talk here and there while your trying your best to endure the pain. The vibe in the shop is just perfect.I would give Pretty In Ink, Cailin, and all the artists 10 stars if Yelp would let me. Read Less

I saw Cailin to revise/recolor an old tattoo from 1987! Also to see if she could help me with something I wasn't happy about when I had someone else recolor it awhile back. She took the time with me,  emailing me back and forth at the beginning. Then when she did my recolor/revision she showed me what she could do on her I pad. Then when it was finished it was even better than I expected. I was so happy what she did to it. It looks so pretty and like a real tattoo I told her. She is really nice and sweet! Very professional. LOVE THIS PLACE. I never write reviews for anywhere however I was sitting looking at my tattoo that was just done two days ago by Kai and I had to do a review. This guy is incredibly talented and super friendly, and very easy to talk to. I am so impressed with what he has done, his single needle work is amazing! Pretty In Ink was a very friendly place to walk into as well, all the artist seemed quite nice and the place is also very well kept cleaning wise. Seriously if you are looking to get a tattoo go here you will not regret it, if you look on their website I am sure you can find an artist that will do the style of the tattoo you want. Great experience at this shop. We had tattoos done by Kai. We were able to call and get a same day appointment for two people. He was very friendly and did a great job! He stayed past closing to finish our tattoos and made sure we knew how to properly take care of after care for them. Shop was very clean and in a great location. I have a long history with tattooists, both good and bad. I have been tatto'd by a couple of the absolute BEST, and one I wouldn't EVER send a client for "artwork."  This Saturday was my FIRST visit here.  I was accompanying a very good friend who was having a very personal piece done (BC WARRIOR/SURVIVOR.)  Of all her friends, she asked me to accompany her.  NO "judgements" and a true appreciate for artistry.  Heidi was her artist, and Heidi owns and runs a PHENOMENAL shop. There were several other clients there, along with their artists.  Clean shop, spotless.  Tastefully designed, and their equipment was top notch.Heidi's artistry is something I almost can not capture in words.  Due to the location of the tattoo (and that it is not my personal tattoo) I am not posting a photo. All I can say is that it is stunning.  STUNNING.  Her color placement/shading/outlining, all of it.  STUNNING!  I can NOT say enough kind words about her, or her work.  Please note that she came HIGHLY recommended by reconstruction surgeon as someone who can cover scarring from both radiation and surgical procedures related to breast cancer.  That in of itself speaks to the soul.  I was there about 3 hours, and was able to take it some of the other work being done.  Each artist was pleasant, kept a TIP TOP work station, and actually engaged TRUE conversation with their clients.  I HIGHLY recommend this shop, and I will absolutely make Hedi the artist for my next piece of work.  She is AMAZING!PS -  It just so happened that March 3rd was also their 10th Anniversary party, and kick off for their new location!  How cool is that? Absolutely love this studio! I had a very important memorial piece for my best friend who passed away. Kai was very understanding and very enthusiastic to work with me. He wasnt phased by my initial attitude problem, and then when i had to leave to go out of town to honor her memory in her favorite place he happily rescheduled with me so i could still get it done that night as well as change the drawing he originally had. He drew and redrew the tattoo until it evolved from a very simplistic to a very detailed tattoo that I absolutely loved and felt reflected my friend very well. I wouldn't have gotten this piece if it wasn't perfect, and Kai made sure that it was and never complained when I asked him to change it a million times. He then spent 30 minutes with me trying to find the perfect placement as well. I have finally found my forever artist! From now on he'll be the only person I get my tattoos from! Highly recommend Pretty In Ink Tattoo! Very happy with the quality and professionalism of the entire staff.  Stephanie was my artist and I must say she is really outstanding. I've had work done here twice, four years apart, and each time I was incredibly impressed. The shop is clean and well kept, the artists are all friendly and honest. The four years different showed in updated equipment, interior design, and pleasantries without touching the character of the shop. Here's the big different though - and why you should work with these artists. When you walk in look at the walls. There's art (by the tattooists) and not a single piece of "flash." Everything is custom done, which means you're going to work with the artist and get something that truly is unique and worthy. After rigorously researching, visiting, and consulting, countless shops and artists within the greater Sacramento area, I've managed to find the best talent around. The owner of the shop, Heidi is my artist and she is an artist you can trust any piece to turn out better than you could possibly imagine. This was one of the things that drew me to her and her work. My first of many pieces by Heidi, I wanted something rather difficult, and I needed the perfect artist. As soon as I saw her work I felt like I had found the only artist that could possibly make my dreams a reality. When I met her it sealed the deal. She's been stuck with me ever since. The shop's other artist Stephanie, previously Heidi's apprentice is now tattooing on her own, which speaks for itself having her as a teacher. Seeing her progress has been amazing, and I hope to have her do some work for me in the future. They are both very talented women and artists. I had Heidi do a pretty detailed cover-up on my arm. It was a half sleeve, black and gray, covering an old arm band. I'm very happy with how it came out. I know it wasn't the easiest cover-up, and I'm sure most other shops would have just turned me away. But she didn't flinch and did a hell of a job. I'm going back to have her make it a full sleeve soon... and then do some more later too. Of course, her being booked out almost a full year is a bummer, but when you're good, that's what happens! I really don't think there is a better tattoo shop out there. It's extremely clean, super nice tattooers, very open to your ideas for tattoos, but then great at adding to your idea to make it the best tattoo possible. Heidi did such an amazing job on my tattoo, I highly recommended her to anyone! She was super patient, caring and made me feel incredibly comfortable and at ease while getting my first tattoo. I was a bit of a stress case and very particular with details and precision on a very small tattoo. She was spot on, worked with me on tiny little alterations and it turned out even better than I could have expected. She very much acknowledge that all tattoos(even one as small as mine) are a permanent decision and she gave me more than a respectable amount of time and attention while placing and sizing my design. Amazing shop!! I went here to have a tree of life done. Steph created a unique and beautiful piece that covers me knee to chest and wraps around my side. I gave her a couple of pics and a general description of what I wanted. She came up with the most beautiful original work I have ever seen!! The inking has taken several months, and I could not be happier. She is superior in her black work and shading and has a fantastic grasp on flora and fauna work. Waited months to get in n when I finally did, was not disappointed. From the first time I talked to Stephanie she was nice, helpful, and professional. The tattoo's I got, and I got 3 done on the same day bcuz I'm from Alabama, were not real artistic but personal ones.
