I've been calling and visiting shops these past several months, for a tattoo I've wanted for years... I knew I wanted a butterfly or string of butterflies, either on my neck or on my hand, and do you know how many places will not do a hand tattoo?? A shop in Encinitas wouldn't even do a neck one. My thought was, "it's not like I'm asking for a gang sign or a penis on my forehead..."Anyway, I knew as soon as I stepped in this parlor, that I wanted my art created here. Everyone was super friendly, and the girls at the check-in counter really set the tone for my visit. The place is clean, and space open. A lot of people were waiting, which was a great sign to me. I told them what I wanted and I don't know if I was waiting those three hours for a specific artist or just the next one available, but they sent me to Myles. I showed him ideas, told him I like bright colors, and left everything else to his interpretation. What he created for me makes me so happy! Second visit to Arcade and still blown away. First time in was a walk in Saturday. Martin took on my tattoo and 100% killed it. Super friendly and made sure everything was perfect. Today I dropped in and Zach took care of me. Guy at the counter was super friendly and went over everything with me top to bottom. Suggest an artist based on what I wanted and set me up with Zach. Set up a time later in the day to come back for my work. Got a text saying they were ready and headed back in. Oceanside Tattoo is an awesome place, with quite the history of Tattooing based on the walls of old tattoos which must have adorned plenty of military and tattoo experts! Literally the worst service I have ever seen in my life. This is coming from a business owner. First time I went in And asked for piercing snake bites that I could also use studs. The guy at the front who was the same guy I saw today told me that snake bites and studs where two different piercings and it couldn't be done. This is not true. Today I just left there mad after the same guy at the front said anyone can do any tattoo for me (not anyone can do a high class tattoo) (I would know because I have been getting tattoos since I was 17 & now I am 26. after I asked him who he would recommend with who he has available at the time. Went to this tattoo shop to try to get a small tattoo of my sister's birthday in Roman numerals. When I first walked in, I asked the artist up at the front desk how much it would cost and he said that they would look at sizing for the cost. I waited about an hour and got a quote for $150 for a roman numeral tattoo that was barely even 3 in long!!! Plus, the tattoo artist that was supposed to work with me seemed short tempered and kind of rude. It was a huge waste of time to come here and their prices are unreasonable. If I were to review my artist Martín, it would be 5 stars. Martín did an awesome job. My wife, our friend, and myself came in to get some small random tattoos. Got on the list and got called back in around 45 min later. Upon returning to the shop we talked to our artist about what we wanted, and he went to draw it up. Simple enough. My wife went first, then me. Our friend got tattooed by another gentleman, didn't catch his name but it came out really good also. All in all we were all very pleased with the quality of the work and would be more than happy to get more work from the artists. Now for the reason I left 4/5 stars.Unfortunately the receptionist, I think he's the piercer also, made the visit pretty uncomfortable and was really unprofessional. While I was getting tattooed the receptionist comes upstairs and starts chastising my artists. Telling him his stuff is on the other side of the booth (it wasn't) and that he needs to rearrange his booth because he's taking up too much space. He was cussing and made himself look like a fool. There's a dividing curtain between the 2 booths and all of Martin's belongings were on his side of the booth. Not to mention NO ONE WAS GETTING TATTOOED IN THE NEXT BOOTH OVER. Look, I get that there's drama between coworkers at times, there's politics in shops and it's none of my business, but don't come up to an artists while he's working and start an argument. The last thing I want is my artists getting distracted and messing up my tattoo which I'm paying for and is obviously permanent. I gave this place a chance due to the convenient location, lots of people were in and out smoking and there were some great reviews. After my free consultation, they told me they can take me in right now. The goal was to get a cover up of a name. The tattoo artist was from out of town and working there for summer. I was charged $450, which I thought was  steep given the material I was getting. I walked for a SOLID BLACK heart with a couple flowers and fringe to accent it. He kept saying he was going to add white to the heart so it has more dimension. I told him, "no the solid back heart is what I want. The dimension can come from the outline and the flowers." In the end he never fixed it and I have a bunch of white in black heart (which I have been wanting for a very long time). Now you can see the person's name that I was trying to cover up. If it was all black then it would be less obvious. The heart is uneven. It is very bulbous on one side and a different shape on the other. The finger is uneven as well.After consulting another artist I found out he was trying to cast a shadow he did it wrong.he should have switched the purple flower to the bottom and the red to the top. Also, all the leaves should be filled in. It looks like he forgot to do so.It is not terrible, but any tattoo artist can tell it needs improvement-Especially for the amount of $450. Military doesnt take that much and we were saving up for a while to get this done. This guy comes once a year and does a free touch up. I didnt realize I got myself into this I was already in the chair.I need 2 more cover ups and now I will have to find a new place.Transparency is important to run a business. Read Less

I spur of the moment decided to get some new ink! They were two I was going to get done at some point and decided now was as good a time as any. I went in about 6pm and was greeted very warmly at the front counter. There were a couple people ahead of me but I was still acknowledged. After he helped another guests we talked for a bit about what I wanted. I had a couple images and we picked out the best and for my locations. I had to wait for about 2 hours for the tattoo artist to finish with a previous customer , which they were also upfront about when I walked in. They encouraged me to go get food, walk around and come back. They have a check in system where they text you about 15 mins before your time. So I ran a few errands and got some food and came back. I had to wait for about :30 min and then it was my turn. The place is very cool and CLEAN!! It's aesthetically pleasing which is what you want in a tattoo parlor. They have really cool vintage artwork on the walls to keep you entertained. Myles was great (and kinda cute ) and went over my artwork with me. He was very attentive to make sure he got the right place, details and design. I would rather have a perfectionist do my tattoo than someone rushing through. Overall I'm really pleased with the work! I just called this place asking if they have artists that specialize in a certain style of tattoo. The receprionist told me to look on their website. To which I replied, "I've looked already and can't make that determination based on what I've seen" Ignorantly, she just told me to come to the shop and see for myself sounding like she just didn't have any time to answer any of my questions. First of all, I'm trying to eliminate my time and travel by phoning different shops to make sure there are artists who can accommodate my needs. I got my first tattoo with Chris. It is a large pierce on my ribs. The detail came out great. Even though it was somewhat painfull at the end Chris finished in one 4.5 hour session for me. I'm on a little mini va-ca and my brain says, "Let's go get another tattoo." YES! You know once that bug bites, it's gonna itch until you get some ink. So, I Googled and found 3 places close; Insight, Frontline and Oceanside. All had decent reviews, looked clean and were open. I went in order from closest to farthest and let me tell you, 3rd time was THE CHARM. I have 8 other tattoos. I know (give or take) what a tattoo costs. With drawing it up, signing the paperwork, paying, putting on the stencil, redrawing the line straight 3 or 4 times, me saying "wait, I need to pee," cleaning my arm, doing the tattoo, cleaning it off and wrapping it up, telling me the dos and donts and then saying thanks, tipping and petting the dog at the insurance place next door, I was out in 53 minutes exactly. I know because I texted a friend as I was walking in and took a pic as I was walking out. 53 minutes. The first place I went wanted $250. If I had tipped 20% (customary) that would have been $300 for 53 minutes. The Harley Davidson mechanics don't charge that much! The 2nd place was quoting $170-$220, but didn't want to give me a solid number, didn't do a draw up, and seemed reluctant to do exactly what I wanted. No go. I'm not gonna force someone to tattoo me, that probably wouldn't end well. They were polite and the place was clean, but I got the feeling they weren't into it. I was almost gonna give up at 2 but I REALLY wanted the tatt. So in the car I got... Drove to Oceanside Tattoo, "The arcade." Very nice neighborhood. Receptionist was super friendly, I didn't get her name. Long, dark hair, glasses. She got a general idea of what I wanted and called the artist, Chris Earnhart. He talked to me for a couple minutes, got a better idea, drew up the tatt, came back, gave me my estimate and said he was ready if I was! Point me in the direction of the paperwork! I am over 18 and not drunk! Let's do this! He was quick, friendly, made some small talk, not overly chatty. He is good at his craft. His line work is neat and straight and he redrew a stencil line a few times until he and I were both happy with it. No complaints. The shop was clean, the music was good and not too loud. Parking in the area is tricky. There is a LOT of don't park here at such and such times, one way streets, etc. So be careful! Tonight I got tattooed by John Graefe and let me tell you not only was his work AMAZING and so clean, but his customer service was impeccable. It was my birthday today and I have my one month old son with me, which I thought would be a problem or a burden, but he made us feel absolutely welcome, even when he got fussy I held him in my arms and he tattooed away for me still. He was so kind and understanding and even let us take a break so I could feed my son too. He made it stress free and was not phased or bothered by any of the hustle and bustle which I appreciate more than anything, and it made for a great birthday and an even greater tattoo! I would love to give this shop a 5 star, I really would The shop has its own vibe...the wood, the décor on the walls, the large and airy waiting area. You can tell a lot of thought and love went into making this shop special. ONLY reason not a 5 star: Daughter and I walked in and IF NOT for John, who was assigned to my daughter and I to get tattooed, I would have walk right out. Why? The VERY unfriendly, unwelcoming person at the front desk. Rude and laconic. Later found out he is the manager. :0  front desk is not for everyone, mostly when some people might be scared or unsure of what its going to be like. Went in on Friday, got an idea of what I wanted. Took my wife with me for a walk in for my tattoo and ended up leaving with two and my wife getting one as well. Couldn't be happier. I had Martin, he did a fantastic job with metatron cube over lapping a flower of life symbol on my ribs. Tons of lines, curves and all of them clean. Then after I got a Ralph Stedman drawing on my left shoulder/pec which came put incredible as well. Clean lines with shades of gray inside. Oceanside Tattoo has just recently opened and located right in the mix of the city. Parking is easily available within the blocks perimeter and there are plenty of things to do if you have a wait. To avoid waiting unnecessarily, always try to schedule an appointment ahead of time. The inside is clean and they're still in the process of decorating, so it's going to look even better. The staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There's also a computer to do tattoo design research on and the walls are filled with artwork to inspire your creativity. I also personally liked how their bathroom was immaculate and that speaks volumes to me about what's important to a business. So far I've had work done from Myles and Clark and they are both excellent at their craft and I trust them completely to do my work. Very professional and experienced artists in here! I came in with my husband to get us both ring finger tattoos. They were not intricate designs, but were both simple crowns. The shop owner quoted us $100 each for a dime sized tattoo ontop of our ring fingers. When I suggested $60 each he said that it was "a pain in the ass" to tattoo fingers and that only a few people knew how to do it correctly. What a load of baloney! Anyways, we got the tattoos paying $250 for everything for two tiny tattoos. Now that it is healing. The crown line weights are all different and a little blown out. If they were great tattoos, I wouldn't have written this review, however I think it's shady to overcharge for these "waste of time" tattoos. My mind was blown by this new shop in downtown Oceanside.  I wanted to support a new local establishment and gave them a ring.  Super nice on the phone and they said to come on down.  I was set up with Martin Nasim who happens to be an INCREDIBLE artist.  The owner drew the script lettering just how I imagined but Martin was able to freehand the galaxy backdrop that I had exactly dreamed of.  The place is beyond clean and the customer service is above par. Such a cool shop. My friend was bored and basically texted me to go get tattoos and we decided to go here since it was down the street from her house. So glad we did. She got two tiny tattoos and I basically ended up with four. Such a nice welcoming staff. We just walked in and took our requests. We went to go get coffee and came back to get started. Omg, great location! We need you around town, you are by far the best Tattoo place in Oceanside! Jason is awesome, he gives you far more than just a tattoo, he gives you a tattoo experience. He's awesome, and we are all so blessed to have him, his shop and staff around town!
