Decent tattoo. Wasn’t as detailed as the picture I brought in. Customer service was nothing special, not very attentive or engaging. Artist was okay, kinda feel like he was rushing through it and upon completion just showed me out. I’m happy with my tattoo but wish the experience was funner and accommodating. It’s a tattoo that’s gonna stay on me forever not a haircut. I just hope they do realize that it’s a privilege to let people do tattoo work on them and very rarely the other way around. The tattoo itself was wonderfully done. I got an arrow on my wrist. It was quick and relatively painless. However, the tattoo was $80 for line work. It was a simple design that took no more than five minutes. I have been to several other shops that charged me less for more ink. This tattoo was way overpriced.The artist who did my tattoo was kind of rude. My girlfriend wanted to get a simple line down her arm--a tattoo that has serious emotional significance to her--and he literally said it was boring and she could get something "much more interesting." Love this place. Did a spontaneous walk in on a weekday afternoon and was helped immediately. I can't really speak for other artists I guess but I had Crystal and she was great. Described to her what I wanted and she gave me advice on styles, size, and positioning and got right to work. They look amazing, way better than I even expected. The quality and expertise of the linework and shading truly shows. The experience itself was hardly painful and we mostly shared funny stories and joked the whole time. I'm on day 3 and healing up nicely with very minimal pain (significantly less than my other tattoos from different shops). On top of that I got two decent sized and detailed tattoos at the same time on each arm and only paid $150 for both (was easily expecting well over $200 based on some other reviews on here). Had a bad experience with the front desk girl. My fiancé came I'm for a consultation for a military tattoo. They refused service because he wanted it on his neck. We found this odd because he has many tattoos (including his neck on the opposite side). It would have been fine if this was relayed to us without such catty rudeness. When we went to leave she threw our IDs on the counter toward us and turned her back. We found an artist the next day that was more than happy to do it. I wouldn't be here writing this review if we had just been turned down, respectfully. But the front desk girl handle it very poorly and we left feeling extremely unhappy with the way we were treated. This tattoo shop is so PUNK ROCK. I first came here a couple of years ago to get my sternum tattoo done by Evan, although the pain hurt like hell, the tattoo was well worth it and I still get so many compliments on it to this day! Nathan Pitcher is my go-to artist. He did my sister's sleeve of traditional tattoo designs and my sister recommended I go to him about a year or two ago. I've got multiple tattoos done by him and the ink quality is awesome! My tattoos are still bright and vibrant to this day and he charges decent prices! Nate, I am so thankful for you, thank you for always making my skin art look beautiful and using your amazing creativity. I will not lie, when I first came to this shop I was super intimidated by everyone there. All tattoo shops have their hardcore-looking employees that will seem mean if you try to talk to them, but these artists/receptionists are super cool when you get to know them! Yesterday, 4/20/17 myself and 3 of my dearest friends all had tattoos done by Nate. He was phenomenal from start to finish. He took the time to really consider our needs and proposed work. Answered every question and clearly explained the reasons for the answers that we had. The tattoos that he did were absolutely exquisite. He allowed us to all be present in his cubicle while each of us was getting ink. One of the girls was a first timer and he handled her with kid g...loves going over each step. The receptionist was great as well. She kept the shop neat and clean and was more than happy to explain the paperwork that needed to be filled out and signed. I was extremely impressed with the whole experience from start to finish. So disappointed. I've been tattooed here before years ago, which is why I thought to call in for a quick & small doodle-type tattoo I wanted. Once I came in the front desk girl was unbelievably rude, unhelpful, and condescending. This is coming from someone who has tattoos. Then we were unbelievably upcharged for something that most shops feel bad even charging a shop minimum for. As an Oceanside local I am happy to say we will NOT be returning. I absolutely love this shop! Hector Lopez is my artist and even though I live in Washington I still cone to him for my work. He has been doing my tattoos for 10 years now. He is amazing and a true artist. He will not let you down and knows all about a good piece and the detail is needs. You will not leave disappointed!!! Their artists are amazing but the cream of the crop is none other than Anton!! Anton consulted with me on my first tattoo in 3/2005; over a decade ago. His expert advise on what colors to choose and the formation of organic lines has stood the test of time. My lotus tattoo still looks brand new. The blended colors are still vibrant against my skin tone. There work looks good but I went in to get a quote on a very small wrist tattoo and evan told me it would be over 150 and treated me like I had no idea about tattos!! Ive been here for 3 tattoos, its always over priced, but in general most all the artists are good. However this place epitomizes the "too cool for you" attitude some shops can have. My hugest complaint was getting the runaround on an appt. That had paid 50% upfront for. I had to reschedule the origional appt. So they told me the artist (anton) would get back to me, that was on a sunday. I called again on mon. Not upset at all, just wanting to get the appt. On my schedule. I said fri or sunday would work for me, they said that would be perfect because he was off wed. And thurs. On tues, still no phone call, so i call again and they said hed call me when he came in. So here comes wed. Still no call. So i tell them im super umhappy and i just want my deposit back, at that point, i didnt want to deal with him at all. They tried to say i couldnt have it back, after my husband called and went in, he walked out with my cash. I will never go here again. This is the best tattoo shop in North county and would compete with any shop in San Diego. Not only is the place super clean, but every artist in About Face is very friendly. All the artists are great at what they do and you won't be disappointed with their work. The two artist that have tattooed me were Anton and Crystal. Both tattoo artist went above and beyond to give me the most upstanding work that I really love. The shop is all about military as well. . My husband and I were visiting from Utah and happened on the shop by chance. The lady at the front, sorry I can't remember your name, was so helpful and polite and welcoming, we decided to get his tattoo for his birthday, Curtis was our artist, and he did an amazing game job. He came up with something we couldn't of imagined. We loved it so much 2 days later we spent our last day in town waiting for Curtis to be available to do mine. The staff here is always super pleasant and the tattoo community can be a bunch of stuck up egos but I love this shop, the front desk staff and the artist give professional opinions of size, placement and art work. Pinterest has caused a lot of repetition over the years and the artist here customize every piece and take their time. No half assin" here on any of the staffs' part I love it front of the house to back of the house handle it all like a bunch of bosses. I've gotten all my tats there and I have actually moved to Clairemont, but drove all the way down for my latest tattoo because of how much I love them. I had Anton for my first tattoo (Smile Now Cry Later tragedy masks), someone else (god I'm awful with names) for my moon tattoo on my wrist, and my newest and quite possibly my favorite is my Harry Potter tattoo from Curtis!! He was super cool during it all and was very accommodating especially since I changed plans on my tattoo last minute. I will continue to drive an hour away for About Face!
