This place is a leader when it comes to quality tattoos.  I've been here twice and both times I was greeted with a smile and someone that listened to my ideas.  The shop help and artist listened to my ideas/concerns and critique what would or wouldn't work.  The average person hoping for a walk-in would be 100% satisfied.  Don't worry about the price because the quality is bulletproof.  Top quality guest artists visit here on occasion to take appointments.  If I lived closer, I would probably hang out here too.  The art on the walls, the music and the overall atmosphere is great.I recommend to anyone reading this, really look into the artists here to make your decision.Cash is king, trust the artist and as always TIP!!!! I had such a nice experience at Temple Tattoo. My friend and I were looking to do walk-ins somewhere in the East Bay for small pieces. We both have a fair amount of work already done and had done our research and had a few places in mind to check out. Luckily, Temple was able to squeeze us in for about an hour or so, and Dustin gave us each our tattoos. He's a fantastic artist and a really lovely, pleasant person. I am from out of town and wanted to get a small tattoo last minute before I left. I walked in, told the front desk what I was looking for and was on the table five minutes later! I've gotten many tattoos before; the artist did a amazingly quick and efficient job. He was not chatty in the slightest, so I had plenty of time to listen to music. The shop was clean and well lit. It was also surprisingly quiet for a Friday night! If you are looking for a last minute tattoo in Oakland, this seems to be the place to get it! The reason I only gave this place 4 stars is because they are incredibly overpriced. I have a leg piece took over four hours to complete (with color!) and paid a little over $100 for some incredible and beautiful work. The tattoo I got today isn't even a fraction of the size and doesn't have color, yet cost the same amount. I went to Temple tattoo this past Saturday for my second and third tattoos. My first was done there in September. This shop is extremely professional, low key and clean. Dustin did all three of my tattoos. I decided on Temple Tattoo based on what I saw and read on the web site. I chose Dustin to do my tattoos after looking at the pictures of his work posted on the web site. For my first tattoo (a unalome with a lotus flower on my back) I made an appointment to show Dustin pictures and talk about placement and size, etc. He was totally patient with me and gave me some very helpful insight about the unalome symbol. I followed up by emailing pictures to him of several lotus flowers. On the day of my appointment he had an original drawing that used different aspects of the different pictures I sent to him. As this was my first tattoo the fact that Dustin is very calming was fantastic. He reassured me that we could stop for a break at any time. The tattoos that I just got this weekend are fairly simple, but due to design, size and placement not necessarily simple for the artist.  Both were done on my wrists. This place is fantastic. I came in just before close with an idea I had been sitting on for my first tattoo. Jonah took a look, printed it out, showed me alternatives, and talked me through the complications associated with my design and placement. I hadn't considered any other location for my idea and he ended up talking me into waiting until I put more thought into every detail. He wanted to make sure that it didn't just look good now, but for the rest of my life. Basically, the team at Temple is professional and knowledgeable and they want to do a great job. Great place. Everyone their truly loves tattooing and sees it as an art form. I got my tat from Jonah. He literally took what was in my head and put it on paper. I got my stomach done which of course is a difficult area but i was impressed by Jonah's line work and im really happy with the outcome. WARNING: THERE IS FOUL LANGUAGE AT THE END OF THIS REVIEW. I cant rave enough about Seth and all the other guys who work here! Last night was my fourth time at this place. 1st time, I stopped by to check the place out because I've heard great things. All the guys during my first visit was extremely helpful in helping me choose who would be best for what I wanted. I previously did my research about this place and each artist to help me pick, my first choice was to go with Seth, and per the guys at this place during my first visit, they also said Seth would be a good choice. I was then given Seth's email so I can contact him.I've contacted Seth through email and he was very responsive. Seth made a 30 minute consultation appointment for me to come in and this is where I move onto my second visit.2nd time, this second visit was for me to come in so Seth and I can talk about my tattoo some more. During our emails, I emailed him pictures of what I wanted. For this first tattoo of mine, i went big. Full sleeve big. Seth made a sketch of my arm. Recommend what should be placed where and how big it should be. The third visit when I come back, would be my first tattoo session!3rd time, Now this being my first tattoo, I was obviously nervous. I've heard from a lot of people who'd say things like "tattoo doesnt hurt." "its addicting" and i've heard other things like "it hurts like hell." "i almost passed out" ... so with the mixed reviews, I went in with an open mind for the level of pain. I went in at my scheduled appointment and waited for Seth to get every thing ready. When he was ready, he placed everything on my arm and made sure it looked right where it was, he also stenciled some things in as well. The whole tattooing process only took seth 3 hours to complete. The level of pain was all over the board. I either felt nothing at all, or i swear i thought i saw the devil a couple of times. But when seth was done, it looked so good even my very traditional chinese family ended up complimenting it.4th time, last night I came in for my second tattoo session. I had no idea what we were going to do prior to coming in, but we ended up stenciling some background details and shading it. The shading part was easy. The pain for the shading was no where near the outlining part. We decided to call it quits once 9:10pm came along. I didnt really get to look at my tattoo when I left the shop, so I waitied til the next morning (which is the morning of 10/06/16 to check it out) . I cleaned it thoroughly and applied Aquaphor on it. ......You guys....... LAST NIGHT WAS ONLY MY SECOND TATTOO SESSION. I AM NO WHERE NEAR DONE AND THIS DAMN MASTERPIECE SETH PUT ON MY DAMN ARM LOOKS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT, SETH KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK HE IS DOING. IF YOU'RE GOING TO PAY SOMEONE BIG BUCKS TO PUT SOME ARTWORK ON YOUR DAMN ARM. GO TO SETH FUCKING WOODS!!!!! I AM IN LOVE WITH MY DAMN TATTOO AND I KNOW EVERY ONE WHO SEES IT WILL TOO. Stumbled upon this shop while in the neighborhood and after deciding to finally get a piece that had been on my tattoo list for years. Called ahead to see if walk ins would be accepted later in the day and the shop was very accommodating. My friend and I were able to both get our tattoos in a welcoming and safe environment. Stepping into the shop one immediately feels the positive energy emanating from the walls covered in religious and spiritual iconography with a touch of Cholo swag. As this is experience was my first, please take this review with the up-most use of relativity. I did careful research on the right tattoo parlor for my first tattoo, because John Mayer told me that my body is a wonderland and you definitely don't want to put junk in or on your body! Besides the obvious great review Temple Tattoo has on Yelp, there were few things about this place that tells me I found the right place.1) It's not open 24 hours. This place is all about helping you get the tattoo that you will enjoy for the rest of your life, not regret. You won't see this place opens at 3AM doing whatever tattoos they can on drunk patrons trying to make a few bucks. 2) They wanted me to come in before I made an appointment. My tat is not complex, could I have just call and made an appointment to come in? Sure, but there are some things you can't do over the phone. Getting to see a rough stencil on my skin made all of the difference.3) They voice their opinion. Not in a rude snobby way either. With their experience when it comes to tattoo, they help me realize every outcome and help paints the picture when it comes to the actual inking and long safe keeping. This made me extremely comfortable in putting ink on my skin. 4) They were nice, all of them. Feeling intimidated? Don't be. Sidebar: I had the pleasure of Dustin doing my first tattoo. He was freaking amazing. Who knew tattoo artists can be so calm and nice? #breakingstereotypes Realizing that it was my first time, he took it real slow and careful. I got my tat about a week ago and it's healed quite nicely.  From the moment I called for an appointment to the moment I walked into Temple Tattoo, I was treated really good by everyone.  Jonah did some scripting on my chest along my collar bone and I've received many compliments.  Jonah was real quick but you wouldn't know it by looking at my tat.  The lines are very straight and the text is filled in completely.  Jonah was also a cool guy to talk to while getting tatted.  I highly recommend Jonah and Temple. I came in on a busy Saturday with no appointment and was greeted warmly by if I remember right Chris. Showed him my idea and handed it over to Dustin. I did not want rush it, so made an appointment for the next day. The next day I was back and ready for my ink. Dustin was great! He asked about everything and involved me in every tweak. I got my first tattoo at Temple on my 18th birthday. I heard about Temple from a friend who got her work done there. When I first came there weeks before I set the date to get it, I was really impressed with the shop. Very clean and everything organized. I got my first tattoo, saying SXE for straight edge, on my left leg by a tattooist named Chummy. I was so happy with it I got another one on my right leg saying TOS. He priced very fair.
