Today was my second time seeing Miss Dee for teeth gems at this location, and I'm nothing short of OBSESSED! Her work is always perfect because she will take her time to get to know YOU and will figure out exactly what body mod will be the best. Seriously, Dee has been in the industry for 20+ years and only provides quality. Stop spending $20 on wonky piercings and get it done the right way the first time! The shop itself is cool, super quiet, every artist there is usually booked and busy, which makes for a very chill atmosphere. +99 points for playing good trap music inside. The piercing was great but they don't really seem to care about helping you with aftercare. I dont need enthusiastic education about all things piercing but when I come in to ask for help because my piercing fell out a little more courtesy than "I don't have my supplies they're all out being cleaned" is just..... strange. Yack did an amazing job on my 1st tattoo! Highly recommend him!! Not only does he have a talent as an artist but he has a calming affect. He was focused and was open to my input. When I arrived he had two drawings, I liked them but didn't love them, he let me find some fonts on the computer (which I should've done earlier at home). I witnessed them berate a woman outside of their shop calling her a bitch a cunt, slut, and everything else you can think of. when I came to her defense they decided to attack me as well. There are other options, don't go here! I heard this place had good artists and good folks working there. WRONG on both accounts. I had some script done here and it's just bad. Wobbly, inconsistent line thickness, jus bad. I'm just grateful I got it somewhere that a coverup was easy enough (also due to the black not being saturated either). The quality of artists are no bueno. Also they are unpleasant. The shop was not welcoming at all, the guys clearly were more interested in seeming cool to each other than helping us. (If I was paying better attention I would have left...should have left). The guys were just sitting around & so off putting I waited for the one woman who worked there to be available. WARNING: Racist and misogynistic aggressive verbal assault to women on the street outside this shop.  We witnessed a group of 4-5 white men from inside this shop aggressive yell slurs at a woman of color outside for supposedly hitting a truck while parking. When it comes to getting piercings I am typically someone who decides to get it at 1pm and expects to get it done by 5pm. There is no real wait time for me. So; when I called around the person that picked up was pretty straight forward. I told him I was thinking of getting my nose pierced and reopening two holes in each ear. He provided me with a price of $40 for the nose piercing and worked with me to reopen the ears. Pretty straight to the point. When I walked in... I love the atmosphere. It is pretty laid back. They had Kevin Allen playing in the background and people were just real chill. I love the little playful signs around the tattoo shop and the guy who pierced me was knowledgeable. I have never in my life been so disrespected nor antagonized than I have been tonight by the owner of this shop. After an amazing day of hanging out with my 3 friends in Alameda/Oakland, we spontaneously decided to get matching nipple piercings. So we looked up the closest spot with a piercer and this was it. We drive about 5 minutes and my friend and I go first and then we finish up and we FaceTime our other friend to share our excitement. Then the owner comes over to the couch, where I'm leaning on my friend,  and extremely rudely tells us to get off the phone because the whole shop can hear us. First of all, the shop is playing extremely loud rap music and I can barely hear my friend who is sitting next to me. We were kind of taken back, but we hang up and get back to our phones to wait for our other friend. Then after a few minutes of quietly waiting another tattoo artist comes up to me and says "Can you sit the fuck up this isn't your house." Me and my friend are extremely shocked but I do as I'm told, but quietly to ourselves we discuss how flabbergasted and disturbed we are.Next the owner, who is a huge muscular 6ft man, comes to confront my friend and says "what did you just say?" So she responds and expresses how surprised we are on the behavior of the staff. This must have been the last straw. He then completely goes off on me and my friend saying things like "Get the fuck out of here!" and "We don't care if you pay." He is also attacking my friend personally by saying "You're a fucking whore." So we go outside to avoid conflict and then the artist out there begins to verbally attack us as well and we are trying to explain ourselves since he is relatively calmer. But then the bald owner comes out and again starts completely going off on us saying things to my friend like, "I wish my wife was here so she could beat your ass," also "I wish I could beat your ass."You thought this was it, it gets even worse. Our two friends are still inside getting pierced, and the owner burst open the door unannounced while she is getting pierced (meaning her boob is out) and tells them "Your friend is a fucking bitch and a whore, I never want to see her again." The last friend to get pierced had yet to and so obviously she decided to not continue and while they are walking out he throws something across the room. Finally we are able to leave to safety and are blown back by what we have experienced. I have lived in the Bay my whole life and believe that Oakland has so much to offer in terms of culture, ingenuity, and innovation. However, this shop and this owner are not representative of what the Bay has to offer. I hope that this man is able to find peace in his life and hopefully one day he can truly be happy, because it must be so exhausting to be so angry all the time. What I imagined being a memorable and exiting evening, ended up a traumatic and horrifying experience due to my visit at five&dime.I'm not gonna go on and rant about the entire experience. Previous reviews from my friends who witnessed it say It all. The tattoo artists were extremely attacking rude and unwelcoming. It was a very strange experience. We were nothing but respectful and happy from the get, and it seemed as though this bothered them. We were told not to be comfortable, and this is "Not our fucking house".  I don't know what we did to anger the artists we didn't even communicate with, but they felt the need to curse at us and threaten us violently. Never in my life have I experienced so much hate and anger from anyone. I am in such disbelief as to what I have just witnessed. Me and 3 of my friends went to go get a piercing, our piercer was very nice and accommodating. We went in the room to get pierced in twos. The first set of friends got their piercings and went to sit on the couch. I got my piercing, and while I was awaiting my other friend to get her piercing, the owner barged in swung the door open while my friend had her top off screaming "your friend is a fucking bitch fuck that whore!!!" He slammed the door and a few second later swung the door open again (knowing that her top was off) and continued rant and scream what a bitch whore she is and how he wishes he could hit her and he would have his "wife beat her ass". At that point my friend who was about to get her piercing declined the piercing because of how uncomfortable she felt. As we walked out of the piercing room the owner takes a huge pole and chucks it across the room, runs outside and continues to verbally assault my friend. The craziest part of all this was finding out what enraged him this much, he was this genuinely angry because she was talking to someone in speaker phone (while the music in the shop was blasting) and that they looked too comfortable on the couch ??? Is that not what you want for your clients, a comfortable welcoming setting ? I was so curious to see if anyone else has had this experience, I thought to myself we can't be the only ones who have experienced this angry man we did nothing to arouse this reaction; come to find out that just 3 months ago a woman witnessed him VERBALLY ABUSE another YOUNG WOMAN!!!   disgusting to say the very least!!! This is a very clean shop with a diverse group of artists that appear to turn out great tattoos. HOWEVER...I had a 3 part tattoo. I had to put down a $100 deposit to make an appointment. No problem with that. The first visit went great. The artist was Chris "Yak"The second time around I made an appointment and texted the artist the night before to confirm. He responded that he had a wedding to go to. Had I not confirmed I would have gone and he wouldn't have been there. I live in Antioch by the way. It takes me roughly an hour to get there. Traffic going back is hour and 45 min to 2 hours. I also have a tight schedule as a nurse so its hard to pin down a free day for me. Nevertheless I reschedule.I call first to confirm and we are still on. I get there and the artist tells me he is still working on a client and will be done in 45 min. He said she had a 12:30 appointment and mine was 1pm. Why schedule so tight? I go eat something and he's not done. I go to a friend's house and come back and he's still not done. I ended up waiting a total of 4 hours. If not for the fact I would have been sitting in traffic anyhow, I would have left. The owner told me he would make sure I'm compensated but he never did. Once I actually get my tattoo started, the artist tells me he only has 1.5 hours because the warriors game was coming on. He also stopped at the hour mark to smoke.So after 1.5 hours I had to come back to get it finished. I tried to get him to use my deposit money but he insisted I use it for the last visit when he finishes. Just in case I try to have someone else finish which totally was my plan because I was so annoyed at his lack of professionalism. But anyhow, I make an appointment that day to get it finished.The last appointment day, I had an appointment for 12 noon. I get there and the shop is closed. I text the artist and he says he doesn't start until 12:30 - 12:45. I think to myself why wouldn't he just make my appointment for that time instead of having me come at noon. So again I wait and he gets there at 1:00 only to tell me he had another tattoo to do. Apparently the woman who was also waiting outside was waiting for him too. I specifically told him when I made the appointment that I would be doing this before going to work. I had to practically beg him to do me first. And he felt the need to get permission from the lady who was also waiting for him. He had the nerve to tell me she was there first when I was actually there first and how would he know when he was an hour late? Anyway he does my tattoo and tries to tell me he needs to still keep my $100 deposit so he can touch up one of my old tattoos. I tell him hell no and I pay him and leave never to return. And it's a shame he's so unprofessional and forgetful because the tattoo is beautiful. My advice, only make an appointment with "Chris Yak" if you have all day to let him bullshit you around. And be prepared for him to take multiple smoke breaks even when he knows your time is tight. And dont count on any apologies or compensation by him or the owner who makes empty promises to make things right. Read Less

FIVE STARS FOR FIVE AND DIME !!! Love them! Lets see I had a pretty horrible situation where I went to some ghetto ass shop (Tinys ink) and they misspelled a word and I called Five and Dime after they were closed and asked if they could some how fix my tattoo the next day. The manager Jay said to send him a picture of it and to come in the next day. So I get there and they all look at my back and see how fucked up my tattoo was and they said a cover up for the word was my best bet so they drew something up for me and got started on my back they warned me it would hurt cause they had to go over a tattoo I got the previous day. It came out BADASS!! I love it so much and learned my lesson to never go anywhere besides them. Ive been there before and got tattoos by Church and AJ and all the guys there are soo nice and professional. Thanks so much to Jay for helping me out and to Ben who did my tattoo. Just walked in off the street to get a second nose piercing.. unfortunately they didn't have anything to fit my little baby nose, BUT I thought it was awesome of the dude to be up front and firm about not wanting to put any jewelry in my face if it wasn't going to be a good fit. Asked for a recommendation on a reliable piercer and got another honest answer. I think honesty is a huge deal, so 5 stars just for that. I went in for my 1 appointment with their new artist, Chris, this past Wednesday and was welcomed by the staff there. Walking around, I saw that everyone was clean. It was a comfortable environment with a good vibe and my type of music, R&B. This was great because I was nervous about my back piece. I wanted to make sure it was what I wanted. It took a couple hours but the results were awesome. A bit of pain here and there but all the outline was complete. The next sessions will include the shading. Thank you five and dime! Read Less

I recently got my second tattoo done here, and let me say the experience was amazing!Nate took all my ideas and really made them unique to me, he was super detailed oriented and made sure I loved every part of the tattoo. I've gotten so many compliments on my tattoo already and it's only been 3 days. I def thought getting it would hurt more than it actually did, which I think speaks loudly for Nate's skill. The shop itself is pretty cool and laid back. I felt super comfortable there. All the guys there are super nice, offered me something to drink, checked to make sure I was doing ok. He is incredible-listened to what I wanted and made sure that I was happy with what I was getting. He supported my every decision and gave me some great feedback to improve my ideas! Okay, that's more than one word but that's how much I love my Spaceship by COLIN.I originally wanted to get a spaceship on my finger to cover something else and he was very honest with me and advised against it. That was cool because it made me appreciate him and the staff at FIVE AND DIME that much more. I ended up deciding I still wanted to get my spaceship and found way better placement for it too! Wandered into this shop one day and ended up with a tattoo. I told them I wanted a sorta-traditional looking tattoo of some crystals. Not sure who was at the desk but he set me up with Church for the tattoo. Waited for about 30 mins while he drew up something custom on the spot.
