I was looking at tattoo shops around my house and found this store. Alex was mentioned in a lot of the reviews so I decided to check her insta out to see what kind of work she specialized in. I really liked her handwriting and I was looking for someone who could write the quote I wanted in a handwriting-esque, but legible, style and she was perfect. I've always wanted a tattoo. Always. And when my financial situation finally presented an opportunity, you can bet your sweet @$$ I jumped on it.Like many others, I fall in the category of "find a tattoo that means something to you." So, I canvassed Google images for designs and inspiration, all the while really taking a look at my life as a whole, digging into the very depths of my persona. What speaks to me? What really encompasses my struggles, my goals, my... life?And like the Virgin Mary appearing on random household objects, the vision came to me. It all became clear: a Bobby Hill tattoo.Finding English Tattoo Company was kind of easy. I was a friend of a friend who led me to Alex. I hit her up and let her know my idea. I was kind of hesitant of telling her, and was kind of on the verge of switching, but she was just as stoked about it as I was. Other than the Bobby Hill portrait, I needed something to go along with it -- like a quote or something. I chose one, but had no idea how to go about it with the design. Alex offered some help, and drew me the coolest draft!Anyway, I got to English Tattoo Company -- a small, cozy surf-shop looking joint -- and Alex quickly spots me and waves me down. She was finishing up with another client, but she got up and showed me my design in person. She was just as excited about it I was.Once it was my turn, I knew I had to turn my anxiety down a notch. Alex was super sweet, comforting, and conversational, which are all pluses when you're dealing with a Level 10 worrier like me. The tattoo was to go on my upper arm, which is a spot that's typical for tattoo first-timers. Alex really talked me through the process, warned me about any slight discomfort I might feel (shading), and then gave me the spiel about cleaning and moisturizing at the very end. It was a process that lasted probably an hour and a half? It was quick and painless, and I was gone in no time, showing off my gnarly Bobby Hill tattoo, which by the way, gets so much attention when I'm wearing sleeveless shirts.Now Bobby was my first tattoo. Ever since then, I've returned to Alex for other works (which I'll post). She's super open-minded and offers a lot of helpful insight as to what will work with your piece. Just recently, I got a sexy Asian man tattooed on my calf, and while she was putting in color, she came up with the idea of giving him a red background. Got my first tattoo done tonight and it came out amazing!!!! I got my dog's paws on my chest and Alex did it she is just amazing. I didn't feel any pain (given what I was told by people) she made me feel right at home and I was so relaxed knowing that I'm in good hands. I have a few tattoos and I can't say that I've been happy enough with the overall satisfaction of the "tattoo experience" to go back to one shop... until now. English is professional, takes away the anxiety of getting a tattoo, and most important doesn't dig & hurt! I came in, scheduled an appointment, emailed an example of what I wanted and he brought it to life using his artist skills. He doesn't pressure anything, he's open and honest. 3 days later, my tattoo is healing beautifully, and I can't stop looking at it. His line work is awesome, and shading in all the right places. Alex is amazing-she takes great care into detail of the art as well as utilizing sterile instruments/technique. She is very personable and sweet. The price was very reasonable for my request and even included some touch up work on a prior tattoo that was in the same location as the one I was getting. My husband and I have been getting inked by English for years.  His line work is insane.  English will take the time to talk to you, find out what you want, draw some custom artwork for you and schedule your appointment.  His shop is not full of people standing around watching friends get tattoos, he limits how many people can be behind the counter.  He does do specials on occasions, Sailor Sundays, where it is walk in service however, he mostly does tattoos by appointment.  Stop in, talk to the guy and make an appointment.  You will not be dissapointed. English is one of the best tattoo artists I've seen since I've been getting tattooed (2003). Let's just say that I keep two or three of his business cards on me at all times; I'm constantly having people compliment me on my tattoo's, specifically the vibrant color of the ink. When I came to him in early 2008, I told him I wanted sleeves. Since then he has tattooed six Sailor Jerry-esque pieces and the count continues. On my right arm I have: a pirate ship, mermaid, skull and crossbone (my favorite), anchor, and swallow with my daughter Audrey's name in the banner. On my left arm I've started a peacock, which I plan to finish within the year. I'll never go to anyone else. English has the expertise and British manner that I love. I'd highly recommend him. He specializes in: Sailor Jerry style, realistic, Japanese, detailed sketch and the like. He's great at bright color as well as black and white. Definitely check out his portfolio and Facebook Page (for newer tattoo's). He's great at coming up with original ideas as well as mimicking a photograph or graphic verbatim.
