Came in today due to what I thought could've been a potentially infected lobe peircing that I got done out of the area. It was quickly identified as, to my luck, not an infection but just a post that got pushed into the skin a little. Highly recommend this place! I rarely leave reviews, but every once in a while Im so impressed with the outstanding customer service I've received that I feel I owe it to them. I wanted a pair of custom 18k gold seam rings in 10 gauge, 3/8" diameter. These are an extremely hard piece of jewelry to put in and most piercers would not even want to take this project on. I felt very strongly about having these specific pieces and Cody respected my ridiculous wishes. Anatometal (the jewelry maker) even tried to talk Cody into an alternative piece but Cody went to bat for me to have them make exactly what I wanted. He got the rings, Installed them like a boss, and they'll stay in until the day they snip my earlobes off with em before huckin me into the cremator. I highly recommend this business. I went to this body piercing shop about three months ago.  They were so amazing and professional that I am writing a review quite awhile after I visited because they were that good.  They gave me all the information I needed on my nose piercing, and they told my friend and I what to look out for in the event something went wrong or if we thought something was going wrong when it actually was normal.  Additionally, I live in San Jose and they gave me the names of other shops closer to me they trusted so I did not have to come down to Monterey each time I needed something.  I have since visited that recommended shop (Make Me Holey) twice: once for my follow-up a month after my piercing, and once when my ring fell out and I needed to get another one.  The recommended shop was just as amazing!  Highly recommend Vaughn and team! I was visiting Monterey for a conference and got a hankering for a piercing.  I had 17 piercings in my ears prior to walking in to Vaughn's and wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do.  The woman who was showing me jewelry and where the jewelry could go was very patient with me the entire time, even when I asked multiple times for pricing.  The woman who pierced me was very knowledgeable and caring and wanted to make sure I had a good place to visit in Seattle (where I live) for a one month follow up.  She provided me with a referral for a shop in Seattle and wrote down all the information I would need for my follow up.  This is the most informative piercing I have had, and I appreciate how much the staff cared.  I'll be back to Monterey in January and will definitely visit again for my next piercing. I would put one star for this experience and lack of knowledge to final sale, but I give this rated 2 stars because the piercer did what she could to fins the best outcome for the unfortunate situation at that time. The shop is impeccably clean, & staff is incredibly trained. However my issue is not with the establishment and or Piercers, but the over confident sales woman at the front desk made me feel like I was taken advantage of. The team should have warned me all sales are final weather or not that's obvious. I NEVER use threaded lip rings as I have a past of them falling off, with this being a real diamond set in gold it's a serious loss of money, time, & patience for it to just unscrew, fall off and have to search for on your hands and knees for hours. When I came into the shop I specifically told the girls I don't want threaded jewelry I ONLY use "pull apart" for this reason, but the sales woman insisted and guaranteed this being the best of the best and so positive it would never come off, including examples of other customers not being able to remove it themselves. I'm extremely disappointed to say my $150 diamond gold lip ring unscrewed and fell out 3 hours after I left. After returning to the shop the girl who originally put it in was astonished that it had fallen out in the first place, she said all sales are final and she cannot exchange or return for what I originally asked for, but she kindly put it back on for me and screwed it very tight. We'll see if it stays on this time. To sum up my frustration, I really feel you shouldn't guarantee a product you don't stand behind, and do not persuade me to purchase something I really didn't want originally, and then not stand behind your word when it falls out like I already assumed it would. To save yourself a hassle and to spare an unhappy client, next time don't try so hard to make a sale, just have good customer service while keeping your customer comfortable and happy. Warn your customer of the things that could go wrong instead of insisting that they won't just to make the sale. This sales woman also added on a jewelry cleaner to my sisters order when I had told her I would just grab a cheaper one at CVS. But I stepped outside to take a phone call when she added this on to the other order without my consent. This over confident sales woman has a  baldhead and tons of facial piercings. I have gone there twice now for my septum and my daith. Both times I was treated very professionally, and patiently. All the jewelry is beautiful, but definitely on the pricier side with a lot of precious stones and metals. I believe you get what you pay for,  and I respect the fact that they don't carry cheap metal so you are guaranteed a safe piercing that your body can handle well. I have a lot of respect for these guys and will continue to get pierced here. They are extremely helpful and helped me customize my jewelry and made suggestions for future jewelry and placement. They made sure that I could get the piercing that I wanted (industrial) and made sure my ear was the correct shape. I've had my piercing for a month now and there have been no complications. I had reached out first over email and received a quick and friendly reply! I let him know that I would possibly be coming in that weekend to get the piercing. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and was warmly greeted by two females. I told them what I was interested in getting, they checked my ID, did an anatomy check, and then helped me with the paper work. The shop is extremely sterile.During the piercing process, the piercer was very patient and thorough with what she was doing and was about to do. She went over the healing and cleaning process with me. They gave me a card for my one month check up appointment after I got my piercing. I wish I had remembered their names (the actual person who did my piercing told me she was a guest while the owner was out at a piercing convention/meeting) and the woman at the front desk was so nice! For my birthday last month, I finally decided to get my nose pierced. I had NO idea what to expect, if it would hurt, etc., but after reading the Yelp reviews for Vaughn, decided to take a chance with this place. I found out later that EVERYONE I knew who had piercings, had also gone to Vaughn's! I made the same-day appointment easily on-line. When I showed up, I was super impressed! Extremely clean and organized studio and sitting area. I was greeted promptly and told I could browse the jewelry options while I waited (one client was ahead of me). All of my questions were answered and I was very pleased with my selection. My husband and son waited with me in the sitting area for only a few minutes more and then a young lady came out and explained the sterilization process for my selected jewelry. After about 10 more minutes, she returned, confirmed the jewelry was ready, and took us in the piercing area.   Again, I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the area. She wore gloves and meticulously explained the process and answered my questions before starting. Did it hurt? Yeah, a little. But, it was so worth it!!!! I loved it and she explained the aftercare process. I was in and out of the piercing area in about 10-15 minutes. The BEST experience! Came in here (mid/late February) after contemplating forever to get my nose pierced. Walked in, with no appointment, and was helped so quickly by Cody and Brittney. Both were so helpful and encouraged me to get pierced! I am so glad I did it, it was only $80 and it is so cute and I love it. I came into Vaughns earlier this month just to take a look at the jewelry. I had been eyeing their instagram and website for about a year and I was finally in the area so I wanted to take a look. I walked in and was immediately greeted and the staff were very friendly and patient while I asked to look at pieces. I couldnt resist the urge to get pierced because I knew I wouldnt have another chance to be back for a while. I ended up getting my tragus pierced and didn't mind waiting a bit while they helped some customers ahead of me. They are very clean and prove they have sterilized their equipment and were very helpful on reviewing and recommending my decision to repierce my tragus. I am definitely coming back and if it wasn't for them being an hour and half drive I would have already went back for a second piercing!The jewelry is pricey but most of it is made from precious metals so it makes sense. When we first arrived in Monterey I wanted an industrial piercing and I googled around at different places and found Vaughn body art and made an appointment. When we got there I said what I wanted and was told I didn't have the anatomy for that piercing. I am SO annoyed with this place. I came in wanting to switch out my nose ring. Simple & quick. When I first asked how long the wait would be, I was told 20-30 minutes & that there were 2 people in line ahead of me. Reluctantly, I agreed to wait, knowing that I would likely end up waiting longer than the estimated wait time. There's no way that a piercer can complete 2 separate piercings to two separate parties in 20 minutes. Unless the piercer is being very dismissive and hurrying their customers out, which a good piercer shouldn't do. After waiting patiently for about an hour, I noticed that the piercer decided to take a client ahead of me that walked in 15-20 minutes after me. In my opinion, that is a very poor business practice. Customers should be helped in the order they come in, regardless if they "know" the piercer or not. I wouldn't recommend this place based off my experience. This place is awesome. I was in Monterey Easter weekend visiting the aquarium and I impulsively decided to pierce my septum. Did a quick google search and Vaughn appealed most because they specialized in just piercings. After reading reviews I scheduled an appointment online and went it. My 5 year old daughter was with me who asks many questions and is very critically observant. (As are most children) she asked Cody lots of questions and he handled her very well. He was thorough about what he would be doing and aftercare procedures. He also suggested jewelry that could be easily hidden as I would need to do so for work. Answered all my questions and mentioned I could email or call with any concerns considering I was from out of town. The girl at the counter was awesome as well. Very, very friendly and helpful staff. Vaughn's only does piercings, no tattoos. The jewelry is wonderful - something for everyone. I walked in with a friend - I got an industrial piercing and she got her helix pierced. Cody was calm, professional, and showed us all of our jewelry options and went over prices. He sterilized our jewelry and showed us the process of how it became clean. After my friend got pierced first, he cleaned his hands and the station, wiped down the table, and took his time making sure everything was clean and ready for the next piercing. I decided, at the ripe age of almost-twenty-seven, that I wanted to put a (small) hole in my face. Specifically my nostril. Mind you, I had zero piercings, and am a huge baby despite my tattoos and my don't-give-a-fuck attitude. I most definitely give a fuck. And I have anxiety because I actually give way too many fucks. ANYWHO. I yelped the hell out of the Monterey area because I wanted someone who is clean and gentle. <--these standards are applicable elsewhere ... I came across this place and all its fantabulous reviews and decided to just go for it. Well, with some minimal planning. But then I went for it. I caught them right as they opened and everyone was wonderful, even before coffee. Not only was I given a plethora of awesome info and put at ease by the very welcoming atmosphere but Cody is UH-MAZING. I was secretly (he could probably tell) freaking out and telling corny, self-deprecating jokes to ease my anxieties but in the end, I had nothing to worry about. You know how some nurses are amazing at drawing blood? Cody is amazing at piercing. I doubt the nostril is a ever 10/10 on the pain scale but when I tell you it was a cakewalk? I had breakfast with my bf in Carmel and was driving back home when suddenly I decided I wanted to have my septum pierced. I had previously researched shops in the area and decided to go with Vaughns. I called and asked if they accepted walk ins, Cody said yes, last walk in was 7. This shop was super clean. No clutter. Good variety of jewelry, real gold also, not the cheap "gold plated" type.It was so quick. Everything is explained in detail. I forgot the techs name (super nice & cute female).. anyway I unfortunately had to get my cartilage pierced, but it wasn't too bad. Cody and the female both explained the process of cleaning my piercing.  The shop had cleaning solution available for purchase. I've thought about this review for months. I've purchased 8 pieces of jewelry, had a piercing re-opened and added another nostril piercing. All great experiences, but one has really stuck with me over the months.The first time in the shop, a little girl came in with her family to get her ears pierced. She was ahead of me and I was happy to wait while she had her big day. I love when I see parents come into a real piercer rather than going into claire's, and I also love seeing parents not pierce their baby, who cannot consent, instead waiting until their child can make the decision. I listened in on the conversation a bit. I listened as Cody explained what was going to happen, and continued to check in to make sure the girl was still ok with everything that was happening. After a lot of excitement, during one check in she had changed her mind. Cody's interactions with her were perfect. Seeing adults respecting children and whether intentional or not, teaching them that they own their bodies is always moving. You will probably spend a little more money at this shop, I can say after being pierced other places, with sometimes terrible results, everything I've purchased and had done here has been worth the added cost for high quality jewelry and fast, drama free healing experiences. Great, upbeat crew. Very clean and organized business. Took our four year old to have her ears pierced. They were great with her and made her feel very comfortable and gave her complete control. She was explained what was involved in what she wanted, and asked multiple times if it was her decision and if she wanted to proceed. That couldn't have helped better with her mood. Two days after the first ear, she asked to go back and was happy the whole time, without the least bit of worry or apprehension. Yes, another five star review.So I was trolling this place for awhile. Calling to check piercing prices, jewelry prices, everything. Each time Cody was super patient and answered all my questions.FINALLY I decided "TODAY IS THE DAY!"Part of the reason it took so long was because I had no idea exactly what piercing I wanted, except I wanted some kind of triple piercing.So, after staring at the beautiful jewelry selections by Neometal, Anatometal, and BVLA for an eternity, I decided on a pretty 18k gold stud with 3 little beads and a diamond. Cody and I talked about my ear anatomy and decided on a helix/ cartilage piercing and we would add to it later.The whole sterilization process was new for me. He is SUPER CLEAN. It takes about 20mins start to finish. My tragus and navel piercings were done in LA and the experience was in & out, which was fine but Cody demonstrated the PROFESSIONAL way to do it.Blah blah blah, it is mandatory to bring your ID. He swipes it. This is a paperless business so consent forms, aftercare is emailed to you.My piercing was done quickly. Cody talked me through it and told me everything that was happening as it happened. BREATHE AND YOU WILL BE OK! Nothing as awesome as the immediate gratification of your new piercing! I can't wait to add on either.
