Eventually though he was super friendly and allowed our kids to watch the process of tattooing while explaining all the technical details, which we all loved! I went in today just to check out the shop because it was recommended to me. The staff was in tattoo appointments at the time, but they still acknowledged me, let me know they'd answer any questions ect. The shop was super clean, very cool atmosphere. Paid a $100 deposit to the owner for a sleeve, never got it scheduled. I went in every 3-4 weeks for 4 months and finally gave up. Figured it wasnt worth it. He tossed a $3-4,000 sleeve away and now everyone knows about it, all for $100. Read Less

I only trust Orlando to give me the best tattoos. I was told about iron crown by a friend and thought I'd give it a try, Orlando drew the tattoo I wanted on spot and it was perfect and that was 2 years ago. I keep coming back, my second tattoo on my shoulder was like an old school anchor and he blew me away. His work is amazing, but if you schedule with him be there on time, if you are going to be late just reschedule so he can fit in some walk ins. It's a clean studio and absolutely chill, if you get him talking about hockey it's a good time( especially the sharks) out of all the tattoo shops in Monterey Iron crown will forever be my favorite. I've come here many times before and loved it. Orlando has always been professional and did good work. I moved away from the area, and I scheduled with him to do a tattoo when I was visiting. I had some unforeseen circumstances that would cause me to be around 30/40 minutes late, and when I messaged Orlando, he said forget it I have prior engagements. This rubbed me the wrong way of course, why would you schedule me if 30 min time difference meant you wouldn't be able to do it? Then, through the afternoon he posts pictures of walk ins he had taken during MY appointment time. He's incredibly unprofessional. Not sure of his first name but Rodriguez was his last. Pure honesty, actually spoke me out of what I wanted as he is a true artist and not just looking for money. He will go over everything with you in detail and make you think further in to your tattoo, but of course if it is what you want he will do it. Never met an artist that will dive deeper into a thought or an idea of a tattoo. Something you will live with. I rarely "yelp" but I surely felt that this gentlemen deserves this. Eli did my first ever tattoo in March. I walked in with a picture on my phone from Pinterest and asked if the tattoo could be done the same day. He politely said no, but we set an appointment; his availability is very open. Eli asked me to email him a picture of the tattoo in the meanwhile. I noticed that the shop was bright, open, and clean, with an eclectic assortment of impressively-drawn tattoos framed on the walls.I got a purple dahlia--as it happens, Eli, they do exist in nature. Eli made me feel very at ease and chatted with me about guitars, hot dog carts, and his craft. And while I was on the tat table, a couple of ladies came in and said, "We want tattoos! Orlando did a few tattoos for me. He corrected the shading on a rabbit which turned out exactly as I hoped. I gave the first artist a chance to fix it and I was grateful Orlando would work on it after if didn't turn out the second time.I also had Orlando add a heart to a molecule tattoo. This was my 7th tattoo and I haven't had issues with healing in the past and did all of the same care. The scab on this tattoo was thick, it became hot and very inflamed. It took over 2 weeks for the scab to came off and had several bleeding episodes despite being very careful. The outcome was the milky raised scar along one side, this picture is almost 5 months after getting it. During the first couple weeks I did visit and called the shop, with some good suggestions made during the first visit a few days after getting the tattoo, but my two calls were not returned. During the several tattoos I've had since then I've asked other artists what they thought and they shared it looked like the artist went too deep. I don't know, but I'm bummed with the outcome.While the heart was still healing I got a very pretty owl from Orlando. He definitely captured what I wanted from the example I brought. I've seen some amazing work by Orlando on a lot of friends, unfortunately when I walked in and asked for him her handed me off to someone learning. I got a pelican tattooed on my foot Eli drew me up one I showed him two pictures to kind of put together a pelican that was sailor jerry traditional style. He showed it to me and tattooed my foot. I just found the exact same one on Instagram...just the one on Instagram is better and has a swallow like a pelican should. I wouldn't go back to him due to the fact that I like my tattooes to be unique and a good artist who has creativity and patience not just being lazy and google something "while your in the back drawing it up" and copy it. Josh jacked up my ring tattoo and then had the nerve to blame it on the print/overlay he placed on my finger. A tattoo artist should have seen the issue and made the needed correction and not blame it on the print. Really?! This is no hit on Lron Crown Tattoo but Josh should have admitted his fault and at least discounted the cost. Unfortunately, my wife gave him a tip not knowing he failed on my tattoo or accepted fault. Bottom line is that if you are going to this shop do not use the man with the calf length dreads because he is unprofessional nor accepts his mistakes. I even called him out on it and he blamed it on the print (that he worked up). The sad thing is that Iron Crown gets this bad review because of him. Sorry Iron Crown. So I came to Monterey on vacation with my boyfriend and just out of the blue I decided to get a tattoo. I'm a big yelp person and checked out all the tattoo places and this one was the one with the highest rating.  We walked in and were told we needed a $60 deposit to save a spot and to email Eli what I wanted. We came back around 6 and Orlando said his last appointment just canceled and he would take me. So, from reading all the reviews on yelp, I've heard that Orlando is the owner and is really talented. I was so excited!! He did such a great job and made sure that I was happy with my tattoo. My boyfriend and I came back two days later and he got a tattoo by Eli and he did such a great job. I brought my one month old son with me and a friend and they were very accommodating and let me take my time and feed him before I got my tattoo.
