This was my first tattoo, and the guys at Foundation were awesome. Jeremy took a vague idea for a tattoo, drew it up on the spot, and then I proceeded to get "inked"! I called to get a tattoo done on my lip. What I want is quite simple but I cannot seem to connect with an artist to get it done. I was told by the gent on the phone that the woman who does that sort of work would call me back. He politely took my information. Almost an entire month later, Ms Jaleesa finally decides to return my call. Of course, she phoned when I was unavailable so she had to leave a message. I then call her back, leaving my own message and do not hear back from her for another two weeks. Finally, she sets my appointment full of apologies about how she is moving to Atlanta and had this to do, that to do....blah, blah, blah. She texted me six days before my appointment to tell me that she will not be able to keep it at all, she is out of here and best of luck. Ok, I threw that last part in for flourish, but in this situation, that is exactly the message I got. So, after almost two months of patiently waiting, I have nothing to show but a bad review. As a customer, I could not care less why a simple tat has been postponed so long, I simply want it done! As a business professional (with degrees in business, mind you) I can tell you this is no way to conduct business. I wanted several other tattoos done after this simple one was completed but I shall spend my hard-earned money elsewhere. Thank you for wasting my time. Read Less

Foundation is the best shop in Modesto. They're the only shop I go to. I've gotten work done there many times and mostly by Abe, he's the man. If you are looking for a shop in town this is the only place to go! I know I could walk in there and I would trust any of the guys to do quality work because all they do is quality work! Read Less

Unfortunately I am on a roll today with bad reviews for tattoo parlors here in Modesto. I went in several weeks ago looking for an original employee that had tattooed me 3 years ago. He no longer works there so I talked to a gentleman named Scott who was not a lot of help. He passed me on to Izzy who also was not a lot of help. Then I was passed on to Jeremy who I thought actually WOULD be able to help me. I wanted some writing done on one arm and possibly a cover-up or an addition to a tattoo on another arm. The first two looked at me like I had lost my mind and they had no clue what to do. Jeremy and I actually talked about some ideas and he took my name number and email and was going to send me a picture to approve. That was several weeks ago and I have never heard from him. I was looking every day on my email to see if I had a really cool picture and it was not to be. On the flip side a young girl walked in and asked if she could get a tattoo that day...They said, "Oh yes, have a seat and tell us what you want." A month and a half ago I made an apt with one of the artists...two weeks before the appointment I texted the artist asking if she had a picture of it complete and if she could tell me the date again for the appointment. She didn't even start it nor knew the date. She told me she would call the next day and start it....she never did. The day of the appointment I call the shop and no one answers...I wanted to check before driving two hours from sf to modesto she was ready for me. So I call back again later on that day and the gentlemen informed me that she would have had my drawing ready if I would have shown up for my apt....so it was my fault for not answering the phone or answering when I asked when my apt was. So I get a call from the manager saying that she hasnt even started it but no I couldnt get my 100 dollar deposit back since in two months she couldnt get a drawing done even though my friend drew most of it for her ready. My 18th birthday was a couple weeks ago, so I decided to get a tattoo that I've wanted for a while. I called foundation to find out if they took walk-ins, and they said they did, so I made an appointment for later that day. I emailed the picture of what i wanted tattooed and they said no problem.  The receptionist was ultimately the greatest first impression; she dealt with me calling 7 separate times with questions about the tattoo. I apologized for bugging her so much and she told me no problem, its your first tattoo and this is a permanent part of your body, you should ask all the questions you would like answered. That REALLY impressed me. When i got there, i was told that Brook Bailey would be doing the tattoo. The receptionist told me that Brook is very nice and would talk me through it all (because i was so nervous about my first tattoo!) And she was right; brook explained everything to me, and she spent a lot of time putting the stencils exactly where i wanted them on my wrists. She was very gentle and kept conversation with me the entire time. Needless to say, I'll be back to Foundation, especially to Brook. She did a great job! Read Less

My sister and I went in to get "sister" tattoo's, and we didn't really have a set tattoo in mind.  When we walked into the shop we were greeted by a very clean and spacious shop, very friendly and knowledgeable staff and no pressure to have someone ready to go.   They answered all of our questions and really took the time to make us feel comfortable .  Justin and Jared are AWESOME tattoo artists and really worked with us to ensure that the tattoos we got were the perfect size, color, shape and vision that we had.  The BEST tattoo experience I've ever had. I have to start off by saying Izzy is the cousin of a friend of mine, but that doesn't in any way sway my opinion of this place.  When getting permanent ink on you, having a "friend of a relative" just isn't enough, they gotta be talented,So with that said, I saw some of the work he had done and made an appt.  I drove from San Jose to Motown to get the work done and i couldn't be happier.  His line work is awesome.  He moves quick, and has a light and steady hand.  The shop is awesome too, filled with really friendly guys.  In fact, I was so happy with how everything looked and healed that i went back in about 4 weeks later and got a second tattoo!
