I came here to get my nose stud changed to a hoop recently and didn’t not have the best experience, unfortunately. It was extremely painful—I found out later that it was because the hoop was much thicker than the hole itself. It did not lay on my nostril as I thought it would and it was super uncomfortable :( I ended up switching it out with a smaller hoop that I’m much happier with. It was my first time in any tattoo shop and I went to get my helix pierced. The guy at the front desk was so welcoming and friendly which was really appreciated. He even handed out snacks and water while I was waiting. I got my piercing done from Joseph and he was very nice, professional and answered all my questions. I love Emerald Tattoo, while in Modesto I was helped by this fine ass guy. Professional, suggestive, he made me feel like I made the right choice. I left my deposit and left. When I returned for my appointment a different employee assisted me. Her customer service skills like the gentleman prior was just awesome. I love this place! If you're looking to get a professional tattoo and want quality...this is surely the tattoo shop for you. The atmosphere is super chill and CLEAN. In addition, the staff and tattoo artists are more than  willing to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. They even have snacks and water just in case you get hungry. Awesome, right?!I've been here twice for cover-ups, and I've noticed that all staff and tattoo artists are consistent with policy, procedure, and pricing. Walk-ins are welcomed, but I do suggest that you book an appointment. In doing so, this requires a $50 cash deposit that goes towards the final price of your tattoo. Booking an appointment is highly recommended because this shop is always busy, which is a clear indicator of satisfactory work and a lot of returning clients. Definitely check this place out. Drain is the best. I abssolutely live every piece he has done for me- 3 total including a hald sleeve. The shop is always professional, clean, and respectful of clients wants. Nikki is amazing!! I've been looking for a good place, found Emerald on Yelp, and it did not disappoint! I ended up doing a walk-in for a septum piecing, and the wait was only a few minutes. This was my first facial piercing, so I was extremely nervous at first, but Nikki clearly explained the whole process thoroughly and gave me a bunch of tips along the way, which took the nervousness away immediately. I have set two appointments with the shop. Each time it's for my husband and I. We each have tattoos we want and enjoy doing them together. The first time we were double booked, that led to the tattoos not getting completed or started because of time. I sent the second appointments for us on Mother's Day. Well it happened again. We got to the shop a half hour early. So they made us wait an hour past our scheduled appointment time. This caused for my husbands work not be completed again. We are Talking about Warriors design on hand, warriors across his knuckles and a raiders shield on his ditch. My tattoo was never even started. This was a total disappointment for me on Mother's Day!  I also had a piercing done in the shop. Love the piercing, wish they kept the jewelry inventory stocked up so when it's time to downsize they had options for the customer to pick from...   Long story short, I will not be returning to the shop. When I walked in, it was my first time there (and at any piercing shop, for that matter). The guy who was at the front counter was very friendly and super patient with me and every question I asked!! He definitely eased my nerves before I got my piercings. It was my first time getting my lobe pierced with a needle, and I can confirm that a needle is a million times better, safer, and cleaner than a piercing gun. It honestly didn't hurt at all, just a slight pinch and it was over! Amber did an amazing job piercing my lobes and did them exactly how I wanted. She also answered all of my questions and talked me through the process of the piercing as well as how it would feel afterward and how to clean the area. I happened to spot this place while heading to a dentist appt, so I decided to pop in and see what the prices were for piercings. Tyler was super friendly and welcoming and Joseph did a phenomenal job. It turns out my eyebrow piercing was still good and just needed stretching and a post.
