Frankie is the absolute best there is in Van Nuys. He hooked my boyfriend and I up with a package deal for our matching bird tattoos. Since we got the same stencils he took $20 off each tattoo for a total of $120 for both of them (plus tip of course ;)). The place is clean and welcoming. I was looking to get another tattoo and my daughter recommended I come here and see Frankie. BEST DECISION EVER!!! Frankie is great, approachable, friendly, he listens to you gets a feel for what you want and takes his time in getting it placed just right. He will give you his artistic opinion and work with you. He walks you through every step of your tattoo and is very gentle , not heavy handed at all. Came here 1/19/2016 with my friend to get an estimate on my first tattoo . Frankie helped me with everything . It was my first tattoo ever and he talked me step by step what his procedure was and what he uses , why he uses what he uses , and overall made me feel comfortable and safe . He made sure the Tattoo I wanted was somethings I was sure about and the language I chose was the right meaning he wanted to make sure it was okay before we started . He made sure it was in the spot I wanted it ( I made him move it like 4times but I was nervous and picky about it ) but he helped out and gave me his opinion as well as my friend . When the tattoo started I expected a lot of pain but he had such a light touch and didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would . I got my first tattoo here and I'm very pleased! I got my tattoo done by Frankie. He is super friendly and professional. Since it was my first tattoo he talked me through everything and he answered all my questions (I'm just naturally a curious person lol). Shop minimum was $50 which is not that bad! This shop is not shady what so ever. Frankie showed me him actually opening a clean set of needles and his equipment. Went to go get my first tattoo which was done by Frankie. Really nice dude, worked in a small space but walked me through what was gonna happen. A hole in the wall place is always best. I got a small tattoo which only costs the minimum of $50 which was really great compared to piercings I've gotten in the past. Frankie is awesome, amazing, friendly, rad, hilarious, helpful, every other positive adjective you can think of in a tattoo artist. I came in with two tattoos in mind; a script on my side and a small roman numeral on my inner arm. I was most nervous about my side, so I decided to do the tiny one first and work my way up. During prep, he was in the middle of ordering Chinese food and asked if I wanted to order anything. I declined because I knew I would throw up from the anxiety. Frankie was super sweet, asked if I wanted water, and kept conversation with me from start to finish. He was really patient when I changed my mind on the tattoo size twice and wanted to move the outline 2 inches lower. My small inner arm tattoo hurt more than my side, to my surprise. When it came time to do my side rib, Frankie calmly went about it instead of hyping up the pain. He would say "see, it's not so bad" and stop whenever I needed a breather. I went here on Saturday for my first tattoo and had a really great experience. Frankie explained the process really well and was a great conversationalist. The only complaint I have is that when I tried to explain how I wanted the outline of the tattoo to look, Frankie did seem a bit impatient, even though there wasn't anyone really waiting. I was having the worst time of my life trying to find the right artist to finish my long-awaited arm sleeve project. I tried researching and speaking with the most qualified artists at all of the locally acclaimed tattoo shops (mostly in Hollywood)...and wiling to pay any price. All I got was pretentious attitudes, emails ignored and never responded to, and artists trying to talk me out of what I really had my heart set on.  As an artist myself, as well as a service provider to the community, I understand fully what can and wont work...and so I was baffled as to why these artists gave me such a rigamarole and excuses as to why they couldn't give me what I wanted and had been planning, researching and saving for for years.So I did a Yelp search for tattoo shops in MY area...the area of Van Nuys, and found this little hole in the wall shop not far from home.  I read Peter's review and instantly identified with his similar dilemma to find the right artist to patronize what would ultimately be upwards of over 1K worth of a project. I liked what I read, and on a whim, shot over to talk to Frankie Ray, the aforementioned artist with an amazing customer satisfaction background. Immediately, after speaking with Frankie, and giving him my idea summary...I felt listened to, respected and appreciated as a prospective client.  He did research, and has been working on my sleeve ever since.  He's also done additional work elsewhere as I have a plethora of ideas. Frankie never tries to talk anyone out of what they want unless he feels its morally inappropriate and that they will regret it soon after. He has managed to provide me with the most amazing work, because he wasn't too lazy to incorporate the detail I so desired, which other artists' apparently didn't have the gumption nor the "time" to do.  There's no other artist I'd rather give my money to. This place is reasonable, friendly, and feels like coming home...which is how you should feel when you're committed to sitting down and putting something permanent and sentimental on your body.
