LOVE this place. I literally recommend the Martlet to anyone who asks me where to get tattooed in Los Angeles. Not only is every single artist there incredibly talented, fun and friendly, but this shop also continuously hosts guest artists from around the world. This place is alright. They do one thing, traditional style tattoos. I felt as if it was an inconvenience for me to be in an empty shop. I dealt with 3 different individuals, two over the phone and one in person in the shop, all three were unhelpful.The tattoo i got is okey. The after care advice i was given was completely wrong. Anybody in the tattoo game knows you do not leave a bandage on your fresh tattoo over night. Thanks for that infection.This place is pricey and would be perfect if it were still 1995.Thanks for the infection and the scarred skin Martlett Tattoo.As I am leaving trying to set up another appointment, the artist tells me, "if you have money you can get tattoos, that's how it works." The girl behind the counter is the most unprofessional prude human being I have ever run into as a customer. I went in ready to put down cash that day and get started on a design, but after my experience I will never be back. I am only writing this post to inform my Los Angeles friends about a terrible experience I had with a local tattoo shop called The Marlet Tattoo shop located in Thai town Hollywood. (next to Harvard and Stone) I'm sure people have had great experiences with tattoo artist "Tally" but that was not my case. After 3 months of emails, and phone calls I noticed a huge lack of communication on his end. Highly unprofessional. It's great that you want to toot your horn an "original" artist. But perhaps its best you put a disclaimer before you set appointments and approve art work and make clients put a $50 deposit. (not refundable btw) Don't set an appointment at The Marlet Tattoo shop in Hollywood. I normally don't do this on social media, but hey, I gotta get my $50 worth somehow.. Bryce is a perfectionist - exactly what you want in your tattoo artist.  He's done two for me now and I will probably be back to him for more.  His technique is awesome and he's easy going and makes the entire experience relaxing and low stress.  Highly recommend. Read Less

I was turned away because I had no visible tattoos, without even being asked if this was my first tattoo or not. They could have done it nicely or professionally, but instead, they talked in circles about a supposed tattoo artist in the shop that MIGHT be ok with tattooing me. I was left standing there like an idiot after the man with a mustache turned away to help a different customer that wanted a tattoo off the wall. A few minutes later, a woman working there that had be...en awkwardly making eye contact with me the whole time meekly spewed out while nodding her head back n forth "yeah, I don't think he's going to do it." That's called shitty customer service, which is a shame, because I had great expectations, and really wanted some great art from this establishment. Unfortunately, instead of treating me with respect, they treated me like an outsider who as they put it, "have to earn," tattoos in the spots I wished to receive them. I just got my very first tattoo done here and I love it! It was a simple design, but was executed perfectly and I couldn't be happier.I was recommended this place from a friend who has been several times. The guy that did my piece was actually a "guest" artist from Ventura, but certainly lived up to the shops reputation. He calmly worked with me and gave me exactly what I wanted, even though some of my requests were against the tattoo norm. I will surely be back here for my second if that time should come.P.S. Note to self: I need to see Bryce again. He's done some amazing work on my upper arm. He's probably one of the better of the five or six tattoo artists whose chairs I have sat on. His black and white style is fucking superb. His style is intuitive and talent comes to him naturally, so his drawings have an idiosyncratic touch to them and look like artwork, rather than a duplicate from a tattoo flash. Listen, skin deteriorates and tattoos change over the years so getting the perfectly crisp tattoo is like um telling your skin to mummify itself! Skin is fortunately, or unfortunately like a canvas in process - tattoo lines soften and curve over the years as you gain/lose weight/elasticity, work out, etc. But for me, its a mark and memory in time. He does his tattooing like a drawing and is really into it - and I know he's into it because I live close and see him working on his drawings at his shop when it gets slow. I have worked with other artists who are overly fastidious about line work rather than the drawing or (on the flip side) incredibly lethargic. I haven't gotten tattooed in about a year here and I need to come back soon. This place, these artists - very highly recommended! Read Less

I had a tattoo done by Talley Matthew at Martlet Tattoo and I could not be happier with the results.  After almost two weeks the tattoo has healed beautifully and I've gotten SO many compliments on the quality of the Talley's work.  I also was ill-prepared for how much it would hurt (I have another tattoo on my foot and that was REALLY painful, so I thought my arm would be less so -- not necessarily the case).  After a few minutes I had to lay down to keep from passing out, and Talley and Bryce were SO FREAKIN' NICE about it!  Talley even went to the liquor store to get me a candy bar and a Coke, and when we started back up again he kept checking in to make sure I was doing okay.  It was overall a fantastic experience and I'll definitely be coming back to Talley for my next tattoo.  Thank you! My girlfriend and I are from Canada and were wanting a quick, inexpensive tattoo that we could walk-in and get within a few minutes. We both had the ideas of what we each wanted and both Bryce and Tally helped us make those ideas come to life and were very patient with us in deciding exactly how we wanted things to look. Back in January I was looking for a tattoo shop in my neighborhood (Los Feliz) and found The Martlet on Yelp. Checked out the shop instagram and all of their work was amazing.I emailed Bryce and ended up getting one of his paintings tattooed on my leg that day. He was flexible and let me break the tattoo up in to two sessions. The tattoo was black and blue ink, the blue healed great, but a little bit of the black healed spotty (which has happened to almost all of my black ink tattoos) and Bryce was more than happy to touch it up for me (for free).Then I went back for a second tattoo but had no idea what I wanted, so I asked for something floral and girly and Bryce drew up a little bouquet of three flowers, I ended up getting it in a kind of weird location and underestimated how painful it would be. Bryce was super patient and kept checking on me throughout the entire tattoo. The vibe of the place is great, really low key and approachable. Wow, what a great tattoo shop. I had a tattoo that I had been unhappy with for quite a while. I had been to a couple of different places trying to figure out a solution. Most places didn't seem willing to spend the time to work with me and help me figure out exactly how to fix it. After reading the great reviews on this place I decided to give it a try. I met Bryce and immediately felt comfortable and confident that he could help me. He took the time to really look at my tattoo and listen to what I didn't like about it. I felt so good about his abilities I made an appointment for the next day. When I arrived the next day he was ready and on time. He and I worked on a couple different designs. He is very talented and artistic and the tattoo he drew up was pretty amazing. I never felt rushed or pressured and I felt like he wanted me to be happy and he wanted to get it right so I looked good. Finally, I decided on the final design and he went to work tattooing me. Everything ws clean and professional.  When it was finished, I looked in the mirror and was so happy! What a relief to have my bad tattoo fixed. A few hours later at home when I took off the plastic wrap and cleaned the tattoo I was even more excited! Upon closer inspection I could see this tattoo was simply amazing. The way he blended it into my older piece and made them all look like one tattoo that was all done at one time was amazing. I have definitely found my new favorite tattoo artist in LA. He even last minute added in some wording for me and it looked amazing!
