Got a nose piercing here for my 17th birthday and when I tell you it did not hurt I mean it! And it was my first time getting anything pierced so I expected something. My eyes didn't water and it's been about a month since I got it and have no irratation so far because they were so good on telling me how to clean it. I was super nervous going to a tattoo studio I’d never fully researched but when I spoke with Emily, everything was confirmed. I was recommended to the shop by a close friend of mine, who had all their tattoos done there (and they all looked fantastic). Being from the East Coast and having had tattoos done from New York City Artists, I've been quite spoiled with good work on myself since the 90's. On my first day in my new LA apartment, I googled "Tattoo Los Angeles" and the first place I found with rave reviews was Studio City Tattoo. After looking at some pictures, I checked them on Yelp and was also amazed by the amount of 5 stars reviews they had. So I went and booked an appointment for the next day. The owner, Clay, is just the nicest man I've known so far in this business. Laid back, yet professional. The place is fairly small in appearance, but you can actually get 4 people to be worked on at the same time, since 3 other people were getting tattooed while I was. For the most shy people and the body parts one should keep private, there is a set up with curtain, so I might get my butt done at one point. The room is well thought, wheelchair accessible, and you can park in private lots around and not have any issues. It is clean and organized, you can walk in or set up appointments, and you have 13 artists to choose from. The price was what I expected and pretty much what I paid on the East Coast. I stopped in today and James helped me switch out my nose stud for a new ring. He was SO sweet and helpful. He fit me in on my lunch break! Everyone in the studio was super friendly and people were striking up conversations. The shop is clean and I was told they'll be expanding toward the end of the year! The fact they've been in business 25 years helped me feel confident and comfortable. I felt as if James was very knowledgeable and professional. I got pierced by Steve, he did a fantastic job! Everything was clean, comfortable and sterile. My piercing has healed great and he was super informative. Only leaving 4 stars because (IMO) the jewelry they offer is either a) crap or b) very expensive. Which is fine. But my piercing cost $30 and the jewelry I picked cost $170, so when I got my total at the end I accidentally tipped on the entire amount. I have been coming to Studio City Tattoo & Body Piercing for 10 years - ever since I moved to LA. Every single one of my tattoos has been from this shop - and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else! The shop is clean, professional, and friendly. I've been there for all-day sessions and just enjoy being in the atmosphere - it's the kind of place you want to spend your day hanging out in. I even introduced my now-husband to this shop and he's gotten all of his recent work done here too. My first 3 pieces were from Caleb back in 2007-2008. My next 4 were done by Jose Menendez (he has also done 2 for my husband) - and I have a few more ideas for him to work on as I finish my half sleeves! My latest one was by Dan McWilliams (a portrait of my dog) and it is incredible. Not only am I in love with it - but I have received so many compliments (saying it looks so real/like a painting - he truly captured my dog's personality!). I could not have asked for a better end result and I will be going to Dan for another portrait soon.There are many awesome things about this shop - the artists are able to help you design the best piece possible - sometimes that means working off of a photo/exact image, and sometimes that means taking an idea/image and drawing something personal and unique. But one of my favorite things about this shop is the family-like atmosphere - they are all there to do the best work possible and make their clients happy. It's not a competition between artists - when I knew I wanted to get my dog portrait done, I reached out to Jose with my idea and he recommended I talk with Dan because Dan specializes in realistic portraits - to me, this is the kind of place I would want to trust - they want to make sure you get exactly what you are looking for - from the right artist. I have gotten two tattoos from Studio City Tattoo over the past year, one as a walk in, and one by appointment. My wife has also gotten two tattoos there and so have many of my friends. What I really appreciate about this shop is that they're friendly to every person who comes in. I've seen all sorts of people get tattoos and piercings there - senior citizens, kids, tattoo virgins and everyone in between - and the staff as a whole are fantastic with everyone, not to mention that they are all incredibly talented - I would literally trust any of them to give me a spectacular tattoo, and I don't think I've ever thought that about another shop. This place is awesome! I've gotten my septum pierced here by Helena: it's healed perfectly now, and it was by far the most painless and easily healed piercing I have. I also just recently had a double conch piercing done by James- he takes the time to understand what your ear project is, and advise the best jewelry to use for the quickest healing time. They're always professional here, and I've never been here when it's not busy. It's a small shop, a little cramped, but the piercers are professional and take the time to make sure everything is sterilized properly. They have a great selection of high end gold jewelry and have an anodizer to change the color of the titanium jewelry to whatever color your heart desires. Highly recommend this place!!! Got my first tattoo ever today and came here based on a recommendation from a friend. I was very nervous from the moment I walked in, but everyone was super friendly (which was great for making me feel better and more calm). Eli did my tattoo and he was wonderful. He was so kind to me through the entire process, explaining how things work and the best tips for taking care of it. He even was nice enough to answer my boyfriend's questions and give advice to him for his future tattoos! I've been getting tattooed by Joe for years and have followed him to this shop! I had recently gotten my nose pierced and my stud fell out in the middle of the night a few days later. I decided to check out different shops in the area when I recalled Studio City. I walked in on a Monday afternoon to talk to the piercer (James) about my options. He explained to me that it would save a ton of healing time to poke new jewelry through my already existing hole, as it had not closed completely yet! Although my nostril was pretty pissed at me, I couldn't have been happier about my entire experience. James was clean, friendly, knowledgeable and made me comfortable in a not so comfortable situation. Got my first tattoo here with Emily Grant! It was an easy tattoo - a simple black one from an existing logo of The Cure. BUT... your first tattoo should always be with a great artist and shop. Emily was super personable and comforting through the entire process. She had great patience especially when I was debating between sizes. Since the tattoo is all black and required great line work, I was 300% satisfied with the work. I think the most important part about getting a tattoo is being comfortable, and Emily gave just that. The shop is cozy and had great music. From someone who's new to this tattoo world, I highly recommend coming here as a first timer. I made an appointment for 10pm, so I had no issues with parking. I was unable to get the piercing I wanted but I still love this place!I walked in today to try and get a tongue piercing. The guy at the register was super chill and nice. He checked out my tongue first to see if there would be any complications. Unfortunately for me I have the giant vein right where the piercing should go. He told me wasn't comfortable piercing the area and didn't want to risk hitting it. He also said he could put it at an angle, which we both agreed wasn't ideal.I appreciate the professionalism and I am grateful he knew the risks and advised me. I got my daith piercing today :) Brigitte at reception was very welcoming when I walked in, answered all my questions patiently and gave me an exact idea of what this would cost me. We also talked about fantasy books hehe. The shop is wicked cool on the interior, all pirate-themed with paraphernalia everywhere; I wish my living room looked like that haha.She then introduced me to James who would be piercing me. He was also very nice and explained everything in detail, from anatomy to sterilizing to how it would feel compared to other piercings (I have a conch piercing and helix piercings) to aftercare. After signing your typical waivers and filling out the health form, I was ready to go.James was awesome and it felt exactly like he described it would, it barely hurt at all, only felt like intense pressure, done before I knew what was happening :) I am prone to faintness and low bp in such situations but happy to say I barely felt a flutter and was good to go after resting a few minutes haha!After that James explained aftercare again, handed me a do's & don'ts list, and offered to check my conch piercing, which has been taking years to heal! He told me how to remedy that, I paid him and you get this coin for 5$ next service, how freakin cool is that? The vibe and ambience of this studio is unmatched. Everyone is very welcoming and conversational. They carry top quality accessories and the place is very clean. You can't even touch the earrings without the artists handling them and for a germaphobe like me knowing everything is 100% clean and sterile means a lot.I came in with a crude drawing that I've been scared to try out for a while because no one seemed to capture it just right, but my boy Jim took hat ratchet drawing and turned it into something beautiful. Great service, friendly staff, and they did great work on my wife and myself. I had been shopping around for a new tattoo parlour since relocating to LA. Places kept quoting me 2 to 3 hours for a simple design that should have taken no more than 90 minutes tops. My wife found SCT and we decided to check it out. Jason looked at my design and said he could do it in 40 minutes. He was then surprised when I told him so many other places said 3 hours. I was very impressed as soon as I walked in the door. The owner was there and he greeted me with the biggest smile. Everyone was so friendly. I was a walk-in and they started right away. I had a tattoo that I just didn't like and wanted reworked into something I love. I showed them a few pictures and Jason came back with this amazing drawing. It hasn't been but 6 days since I got it and I've never healed so quickly. It has a ton of color and it's so vibrant and beautiful. The lines are so tight and the shading is perfect!! These guys at Studio City Tattoo are the most talented piercers and tattoo artists as well as the most polite people I've ever met in my life! I go in there, so nervous I'm sweating, before all my tattoos. Somehow they find a way to make me laugh and completely calm down! (Did I mention the entire shop is a pirate ship inside? With an aquarium, painted sky sealing, and pirate attire all over, it's really amazing.) All the guys in there are amazing artists! I've had three tattoos and four piercings done there, and each without one problem! I go to Steve White for my piercings and Mike Erwin for all my tattoos. I mean, everyone in there is great, but those two are the guys that have been the most friendly to me, from day 1! I would recommend these guys among anyone else. I have had 2 tats done here. One was done over my C-section scar and was completed to perfection. Its a very sensitive and tough area to work on, but I was very satisfied with work as the sensitivity of the artist knowing the pain that is involved on a piece of this manner. My second tat is a beautiful large script writing on my back with all 5 of my babies names and my favorite saying to them. I wanted them present for the piece and was nervous at the same time...we were made to feel so welcome! We had puzzles, toys and snacks all over! My babies loved the fish tank and the whole decor of the shop. It was myself, 15 yr old, 11 yr old, 9 yr old, 3 yr old and two month old. The artists are all a great deal of fun, the parlour is immaculately clean, and the pirate decor has got to be seen to be believed. Illya has done two of my tattoos and the wolf face he just created for me is magnificent. I am a late bloomer to the tattoo world, but I'm glad I did. It is good to research what you want your tattoo to be; don't jump into anything - it will be with you forever. I got what I wanted and loved it. Slim was the artist who walked me through the stages from beginning to end. I got an extensive tattoo from the top of my shoulder to below my elbow. He was detailed about every aspect over the 8 weeks that was needed for outline, healing time, and finishing touches (finishing touches were on the house). I was comfortable throughout the process and enjoyed the bantering between the artists and the customers; it was a great show! One word of advice I would like to give... Show the artists your idea of what you want and talk about how you may want it to look but let him do his work. Don't micro-manage his talents. I discovered the more I stayed out of it and trusted the process the more my tattoo came to be more than I expected. I love the tattoo I relieved and will definitely be returning for another. Ive had my first tattoo here and decided to go back for a late night decision of getting my septum pierced. I walked in and they said ok, went through the options, chose my ring and was ready to go. I gotta tell you though, NICK was such an awesome dude. He was a pro. and you can tell, it took as little as 1 minute to get the job done. he was quick to find the sweet spot and it cut through like butter, almost as if he was making love to your nose.
