I could not have found a better place for my first tattoo. Lantz was so calming and patient with me as I asked a lot of questions. He took his time explaining how things worked, showing me how all needles etc are sterile and in unopened packages, as well walking me through what the healing process would entail. I saw Lantz today to have some much needed touch ups  and additions done to an existing tattoo on my leg. From the time he responded to my inquiry about setting up a consultation until I left his shop today, the entire experience was just lovely. The shop itself is clean, spacious and well decorated. I was searching for tattoo artists in the Los Angeles area and found Lantz.  I went to his website and saw his amazing work (all of them.. lettering, black & white and color tattoos). Lantz is a magician! He is an artist and his canvas if the human body. I can't believe that he was able to transform my tattoo from a grey blob to what it is now-same design just 100% better. I got my first "real" tattoo from Lantz. I had done a ton of research and met with 2 other artists at other shops. I was in my mid 30's and was very aware that tattoos are forever (my 18 year old self couldn't quite comprehend that) and I wasn't going to trust just any person to ink me. I picked well. Lantz made me feel very comfortable and somehow at ease when getting a needle forced into my flesh at a rapid rate. I went to Shoebox Tattoo because it was down the street from my job and figured maybe someone would be nice enough to give me their professional opinion. I have a tattoo that I was reluctant to let another artist work on.. I was actually more content with the idea of having it covered up with a different idea, and then re-imagined by another artist I've already established a certain level of trust with.The artist I originally selected for a cover-up, while incredibly talented in his own right, made it sound like it'd be a major headache to do what I wanted.. and didn't really offer any visualizations that I was interested in.. In fact, all he did was google image search and copy/paste some images in place on-top of an image of my arm. I left disappointed, but.. with having been given the impression that my cover-up would be so much trouble, I decided to look around at options in fixing up what I would have later gotten re-done, instead.Living approximately 250-feet from the front door of Shoebox, and having had a prior conversation with Lantz, his shop was the first one I stepped into for a consultation on fixing it up. He penciled me in for a couple days later, and I got the work done yesterday.. I'm FINALLY happy with this piece, and if any minor alterations are needed after healing (tattoo done in a more-sensitive area, with added swelling on-sight), Lantz offers a free touch-up session to keep his clients as happy can be. Look, choosing a tattoo artist is essentially a lifetime commitment of displaying the talents of the artist you choose. Not to mention it's a bonus if the artist is a person you can have engaging conversation with while you submit to the needle for hours on end. Added bonus if that tattoo artist is certified in preventing blood born illnesses (I mean, they are using a needle, you will bleed, cleanliness is essential).  If you ask me (which you are by reading this review) Lantz embodies all these qualities with style! I am covered on my entire arm and back with his exquisite art work. He tirelessly designed my concept and patiently worked and reworked the design to meet my persnickety needs. And he was meticulous about the placement of the stencil. Trust me, being in his shop and sitting in his chair for 8+ hours several times throughout the years it takes to complete intricate art work you get to know the person. He is a good person.
