I'm pretty loyal to my tattoo artist and to be completely honest I'm usually very intimidated to walk into a new tattoo shop. They're not always friendly and kinda mean but not at Madison tattoo.. I stopped by a couple days ago because I got it my head that I wanted a quick tattoo on me my sternum. I walked in and was greeted right away.. asked me what I wanted to do and booked me same day!! Cool! I show up to my appointment and my artist was super professional. Walked me through everything and made me feel super comfortable. Started the tattoo and before I knew it was over!! Made the experience fast & painless. This tattoo shop is seriously a hidden little gem in North Hollywood and I'm super excited to have stumbled across it. I'm not the kind of person that usually shares tattoo experiences on yelp because they're never that memorable or they're pretty awful that I just wanna forget about them. I was very familiar with Madison Tattoo (well when it was called that, they now call themselves North Hollywood Tattoo since they relocated a couple doors down) since my husband & friends have all gotten tattoos from here by Dave Grinds. At the time I wasn't ready to get a tattoo myself but always kept this shop in mind for when I did wanna go through with it. Unfortunately I got the itch for a tattoo when this shop closed down due to filming and then the artists went their own way. Now that they're back at a permanent setting I knew exactly where I'd go for my next tattoo. My husband is the one that rediscovered the shop for me and more importantly he found an amazingly talented artist that fit my style. I got two tattoos done by Daniel (Danny) yesterday, a compass on my inner forearm (45 mins) and a wave outline on my ankle (5 mins). I brought in my ideas and let Danny sketch out his own interpretation so I had a one-of-a-kind piece! He was very polite, caring and most of all patient. I felt super comfortable with Danny because of this.I'm not sure about other ladies out there getting tats but I hate it when there's no connection with your artist, usually because they're just being a-holes the whole time, the experience is really tense and awkward.Anyway, I'm getting a little off topic, I think the main reason I was intrigued with Danny's work was because it's really unique and eye-catching. I don't know a whole lot when it comes to art but I personally love that he does a lot of fine line pieces which give his drawings texture. He also uses a lot of fine lines for what would be "shading" but then it's doesn't come off so heavy since the drawing looks like it can breathe. He is multi talented as well, he can execute all sorts of tattooing styles. One thing I noticed on his Instagram was that his color is on point, super vibrant! One of the things that kept me distracted from the pain of getting tattooed was looking at his incredible wall of drawings/sketches that he's tattooed on others, if I had to pick one to get tattooed on myself I would have a hard time choosing! They're all so fricken immaculate. I can see myself coming back to Danny and have already recommended him to a lot of my friends who loved the tats he did on me! I know for sure my husband is already looking into a knife tattoo idea for Danny to dominate pretty soon. Oh yeah forgot to mention one last thing; his prices are super affordable! I first got tattooed by Danny during one of those Friday the 13th things. That tattoo was small and pretty standard (as expected) but while I was getting tattooed I noticed all of these bad ass illustrations on transfer paper all over his station. Which was weird because, whereas most tattoo stations are full of past transfers or sketches on transfer paper, these were all full color and detailed. He had this unique style to his art that was part graffiti, part flash, part Spanish art and mostly just really interesting. He had these hybrid animal illustrations that really caught my eye, that were so cool and weird, I made an appointment to come back and get one. Not only did the tattoo come out even better than the illustration, it was a cover up that he executed it flawlessly. 2 years later and it's still bright, still saturated, still rad and most importantly still covered. I dug it so much I came back and got another one to match it on my other calf. From what I've seen, Danny can do all types of styles of tattooing but if you're into getting something interesting and special, sit down and brainstorm with him on an original idea or go through his sketchbook and pick something out. So Raul decided to bang on Danny's work, but I can say that he is one of my go to artist. Anytime my friends and family are looking for an artist; I send them his way. This being said, I live about 100 miles away and I still take the drive to get work done. I've been going to Madison for almost two years now. Something that I always express about her when I'm asked where I got my ink done, is that she's got great energy. I think that's important when finding an artist. Tattooing is an art form no matter how you look at it and I want someone who is not only a talented artist but a positive spirit. She's light on the gun and quick to the draw. My last tattoo felt like a massage. Just kidding but it wasn't bad. Madison has got a couple of guys who also work in the shop. Dave, Daniel and Jeff are super talented and very approachable. Very nice guys. One thing that stands out is that Daniel and Jeff are so polite. I walked into Madison Tattoo shop and was instantly asked how can I help you. Most tattoo shops you stand around for awhile like a dear starring into headlights cause no one will speak up and ask if you need anything. The shop was clean and had a unique vibe to it. You can tell that they actually put thought into it and didn?t just put a bunch of random crap on the walls like most tattoo shops do. I was there to see Jimbo Cutler the 3rd, I was getting the gonzo logo from Hunter S. Thompson?s printing company. I normally wouldn?t get a tattoo from someone that just finished up there apprenticeship, but after seeing how fast he progressed after doing 40 palm sized tattoo?s I was impressed. His lines were straight and he paid close attention to the small detail. Due to experiences with male tattoo artists which most had heavy hands , I prefer women tattoo artist . I would say that Jimbo had a lighter hand then most which made it more comfortable unlike other artist who dug too far into my skin. I would say if Jimbo continues in this industry he has the potential to become one of LA?s best. He is a very talented artist. Above all else I was mostly impressed by the shops cleanliness, and knowledge of sterile practices. If you visit this shop you wont be treated like a moron, the artist here are friendly and open to ideas and meeting new clients. I?ve never felt more welcome in a tattoo shop. It's incredibly clean and the bs attitude that so many other shops display is non-existent. (you know the one, like they don't need your business?) I love this shop! Tastefully decorated...the interior isn't lined with the flash you usually see in shops. And it's very clean. Everyone is very nice, but Franklin has done three tattoos for me so far. He's been able to incorporate his new designs to compliment work I've had done previously. First off this place looks awesome when you step in. It's got a zen type look to it so you immediately feel calm and relaxed. I went in for my lip piercing and had Jimbo do it for me. This was his first lip piercing and he did a phenomenal job! He made sure I was taken care of and that I was relaxed and comfortable, and he sterilized everything and anything right in front of me. Seriously, it's true. I met Frank(lin) through my uncle, who happens to be a close friend of his. When I went to see Frank, I was immediately comfortable, he was kind and professional but had a friendly air to him, as well as the entire shop. The other guys there are awesome, and everyone was respectful and interested in each others work. Frank inked his first Koi fish on my right leg, and it is the most AMAZING Koi I've seen. Frank has the most amazing use of color and he suggested some options for me that are more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. His linework is so precise and the art he did was perfect for me.
