This studio is awesome and I will definitely recommend it and I will return! Here's my story. I just turned 60 and have been wanting a tattoo for years. I have a Pinterest board full of tattoos that I like. I wanted something feminine. My children and their spouses gave me the gift of a tattoo for my 60th birthday. Then I had to find the tattoo studio I wanted to go to. The thing was, I just didn't see anyone doing the work I wanted. And I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable i...n the dark studios that mainly did skulls and demons. Then I found Earth Altar Studio on Yelp. The look of the studio was open and light. The examples of the work that Justine does was exactly what I wanted! I scheduled an appoinment after several emails. On appointment day I was thrilled to see the studio looked just like the pictures. The studio was clean, sterile and welcoming. I felt good there. Justine was amazing! She has 'soft' energy and I immediately felt comfortable with her. She already had a picture of the tattoo I wanted and she drew it up and added her own creativeness to the design. It did hurt to get the tattoo, but it wasn't bad, I'd do it again. In fact I felt this interesting release in the most painful areas. I found that if I meditated with a simple 'being in the present meditation' of being aware of my breath moving in and out, I could relax my leg and there was less pain. The end result was spectacular! It kind of reminds me of something I would see in the land of Pandora from the movie Avatar. I should say that this tattoo was to cover a 5-6" scar on my right ankle. I shattered this ankle two years ago when I fell down some stairs (while holding my 5 week old grandson!). The baby was not hurt. I consciously held on very tight to him. The biggest scar was from where the titanium plate was inserted, then there was a small scar on the top of my foot from pins and a long thin narrow scar on the inside of the ankle from screws. Justine put the tattoo over the big scar and then did some camouflage tattooing on the other scars. I didn't expect that camouflage tattooing, and am interested to see what it looks like after it all heals. I can't even see the big scar at all now! Then I asked their piercing expert to put a third hole in my ear! Why not? I was there! I learned a lot from her about sterile piercing and why we should only go to a studio like this for piercings and not that store in the mall. I'm very happy with my new piercing. She's honestly the best....this is my second piece I'm getting from here. She is always kind and patient. The place is amazing, its a peaceful ambiance so you don't have to worry about people looking over your work. I'm a private person, these tattoos are for me. This place is where it's at! A clean, lady-friendly shop, run by mom and daughter. Artists in every sense of the word. They care about your needs and help to make your perm makeup, skin discoloration/scarring, and tattoos a unique experience. I've been to a lot of shops and this is by far the most personal, healing tattoo I've ever gotten. Justine and I went to art school together so I know she can draw anything. I just got my watercolor tattoo finished today by Justine! She is a great tattoo artist and treats her tattooees with kindness! She always gave me a warm welcome with a huge smile, offered a selection of unique, delicious teas, offered a large selection of music to listen to, and made sure I was comfortable. Also, her studio is super sterile and homey at the same time. Think 'Yoga studio decorated by an Anthropologie Store Designer'. In regards to her products, she uses vega...n ink and organic tattoo care which I really like and lidocaine (numbing cream) if, for example, you decide to get a giant tattoo on your rib, like me! Through the whole process, she educates you about the tattooing and the care, asks important questions, listens to you, makes sure you're 100% satisfied with the design without hesitation, and will let you try on the stencil a 100 times until you are in love with the placement.
