Great place! The atmosphere is very chill and inviting, everyone is super nice and helpful! Me and a group of two other girls went in as walk-ins. Jackie did my tattoo and was very precise on placement making sure it was straight and exactly where I wanted it. I came to Paper Crane for a cover up of a dark and deep tattoo on the top of my foot. Jesse Iris is my artist and he is amazing and creative. My old tattoo was from when I was 18 and reminded me of bleaker times. Plus, I work in business and since it was a giant cartoon panda I needed something more my age. I originally went to three different places to see about tattoo removal but they all told me it's not worth it because of how deep and dark my tattoo was and a coverup by a talented artist was my best option. I searched for an experienced tattoo coverup artist for around 2 years before I stumbled upon Paper Crane. They looked at some tattoo styles that I liked and matched me up with Jesse. I drove to the studio to meet him so he could evaluate my tattoo and some tattoo styles that I liked. I gave him a $100 deposit and we scheduled the first session. He had a photo of my old tattoo that he created an original sketch over based on some tattoos styles that I had liked. I really like fine line style but I literally had no idea what to expect because it felt like a coverup that I loved would be impossible but Jesse nailed it with his design. So far I have completed two sessions and I was already in love with my tattoo after the first session. I still need one more session probably but my old tattoo is hardly noticeable now. I honestly adore this studio, and it may be my favorite tattoo shop here in California. The people, vibes, and the art they produce are absolutely solid. If there's any advice I would give, arrive a good hour early for good parking. It'll save you fines and a ton of stress.I came in on the 10th for an appointment with Justin for a second piece, and he truly solidified to me how he's seriously a gem. He's super welcoming and cordial, and as I was walking in, he shook my hand, asked if I wanted anything at the corner store, and I really appreciated the offer (especially because I hadn't had time to grab breakfast). We got the process started, and the place looked clean and up-kept, just like last time. Then, he not only made sure my tattoo was beautiful as a design, but also that the tattoo flowed well on my arm, taking the time to readjust and scale as needed. Throughout the whole process, he made sure I was doing okay, and totally didn't mind friendly chat. It made the experience that much more amazing to be able to talk about tattooing and the industry in general, but also stuff about movies and shows. You can tell all the people in the shop care a lot about their fellow tattooers too, as they were happy and joking with each other. The vibes were super casual, and that was probably one of the most relaxed, professional, and friendly sessions I've ever had. Justin even gave me the last half of his sandwich to boost me up, and that was really cool of him!He also touched up my first piece from him for free, which I was so grateful for. This is a review for the customer service and not any actual tattoo work. I emailed one of the artists (Justin) through his website for a consultation and provided the requested information about what I was looking for, including some reference photos. I understand it can take a while to receive a response, so I waited 2.5 weeks before following up with the store to check in and ask when I could anticipate a response.Whoever answered was able to check with Justin regarding my inquiry and after confirming he was able to locate my email, they noted that it was "back logged" amongst his emails and that I could just walk-in for a consultation. When asking about making an appointment to ensure there was time available for me, I was told they don't set appointments and to just come in anytime during his available walk-in consultation times.On the day of the consultation, Justin and I chatted about what I was looking for and I was a bit put-off that I had to re-explain everything that was detailed in the original email, including him asking for reference photos that were already attached (I don't think he ever looked at my email). I was also put-off that he seemed primarily concerned with my budget and brought it up various times while I was trying to ask about other things, like how many sessions it might take, color vs grey, adding color later, etc. (when discussing scheduling for the first few sessions next February, I started to say that "I need to check my --- (availability)" and he cut me off and finished my sentence with "budget?").To be clear, Justin was very nice -- I think we just didn't connect that well (which I feel is pretty important) and perhaps he is in too high demand to make you feel like you are really getting the personal care and attention you'd hope to get when investing in a large piece. My friend and I walked into Paper Crane with hopes of scheduling an appointment and the service was very disappointing. Suzanne(sp) was at the front and ignored us for the first 2minutes we were standing there. There was another employee at the front consulting with a group of girls, and Suzanne was standing there with little to no contribution to their conversation. Once she finally greeted and acknowledged our presence she did not have the most welcoming energy. My friend showed her a picture reference of a tattoo of a Palm Tree she wanted to get on her forearm. Suzanne immediately shut down the idea saying she wasnt sure how accurate her depiction of the picture (a simple PALM TREE) would be since she does not wish to "copy" another artist's work. However, my friend reiterated she just wanted a palm tree and was referencing the size and style. My friend then persisted and asked to schedule an appointment with an artist at Paper Crane. Suzanne then proceeded to act confused and unsure of how to schedule my friend's appointment (i.e. looking around as if she misplaced something, repeatedly saying "umm.." while looking for nothing) and finally suggested my friend come back to HER at 3:30pm. By this point I no longer felt welcomed or even considered for service (and I was just there for moral support). My friend decided not to move forward with Suzanne, and we were mutually disappointed with the underwhelming level of customer service. We then made or way to Ace of Hearts Tattoo shop, and was greeted and taken in with welcome arms immediately upon our arrival. My friend got her tattoo and was overly pleased with her artist's work. We are very pleased with the service of every single artist/employee of Ace of Hearts and are happy to continue to bring our business to them. Suzanne may need an accelerated course in customer service and personable human interaction. Called the studio and spoke to Lindsey, and she was able to squeeze me in for my small tattoo before they closed. I recently got a tattoo from Joy Shannon here at Paper Crane Tattoo. I emailed the shop with my idea, and they referred me to Joy Shannon, who suited best to the design I wanted (black linework). She contacted me right away and we met at the shop for a consultation shortly. We were able to talk more about the design, process, and pricing and we scheduled for the session about two weeks later. I came in on the early Saturday morning I had scheduled with her, and she did such a beautiful job on my tattoo! She was super accommodating and caring, which made me feel comfortable and trusting of her. She also has a super cute black cocker spaniel named Shanti. It was almost like.. "meant to be" in some way: the tattoo I got was to commemorate my late grandfather, and when I was younger, he used to take care of our family black cocker spaniel named Murphy.Joy Shannon and the rest of the staff here excel not only in tattooing but also in customer service. The shop is so unlike all the other shops in town; it's welcoming, clean and bright. Everyone I encountered was friendly and professional. I stumbled upon Joy Shannon on Instagram (@triplegoddesstattoos) and fell in love with her aesthetic. Her style (botanical, blackwork, esoteric, pagan, witchy etc.) and vibe was in alignment with mine and I contacted her once I had a chance to finalize my ideas/concepts. The first tattoo I scheduled was a queen bee concept, one of her botanical pentacle designs AND (finally) adding the Roman numeral birth dates of my two youngest little monsters. Joy was able to take my initial bee design and seamlessly incorporate all the elements I wanted to add. The second piece I had Joy create is my new sleeve. After showing her my design and discussing my vision, she worked her magic and created an amazing piece of art. She understood what I'd wanted and I didn't have to change a thing. I can't say enough about Paper Crane and their staff. I went in this week for my first tattoo ever. A friend of mine was with me and wanted to get her tattoo she already had recolored. Tan and Mikey were ready and willing to help and we made appointments for the next day. Tan was my artist and he took my idea and ran with it and it came out beautifully and the experience was super comfortable and I felt very safe and relaxed. SoMuch so I even got another small one while there. My friends experience was similar and she now knows this is where she'll be going from now on. What can I saw? Mikey is the best. He's been tattooing things on me for nearly a decade.  He is welcoming and makes no judgment about your tattoo choices. Mikey does a great job of keeping things professional, and comfortable, when decorating your rear or other areas not seen by the sun. Not only is Mikey himself an amazing artist, but he has many other talented people working in the shop.
