It's been more than 10 years since I've gotten my big tattoo.  And since then I've been thinking of what my next tattoo will be. As with most people, tattoos should be meaningful. I knew I wanted it to be in Baybayin. Old filipino script before the Spanish introduced the alphabet that's currently used. I just didn't know what I would like to have written.As we all know.. tattoos are permanent. I certainly didn't want ANY tattoo artists working on this, in fear that what is tattooed means something else different. (Think of those funny/horror stories of people that had gotten tattoos in Chinese/Japanese/or any non native language) Certainly didn't want that to happen to me. I've actually found about Dream Jungle via Yelp years ago. How other fellow filipinos gave him great reviews on their Alibata/Baybayin tattoos. I knew then that this is the place to go. Even better was that one of my friends had a tattoo by them.  Move forward several years and I finally got inspired on what I wanted to have tattooed. Reaching out to him was simple. Just emailed via the address noted on their site. Aleks emailed me back w/in 24 hours, got my appt after a couple of emails. When the day arrived, Aleks was very helpful in choosing how the placement will look on my lower arm, character size and texture. I booked it way back in November and my artist, Manila, was great at keeping in touch about the appointment for the past few months.I got a tattoo in baybayin and he had a lot of ideas for character styles that we went over to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. The owner, Aleks, talked to me briefly about how one of the characters was going to be done (just in case someone tried to argue it wasn't a precise translation), which I appreciated. The tattoo process itself went as smooth as possible. I told Manila it was my first one and that I was nervous, so he was attentive to my comfort levels and always asked if I needed to take a break between different stages of the tattoo.I'm happy I came here-- I'm so pleased with how it came out, particularly the little brushstroke details I asked for, and how chill the place is. I've been going to Aleks for just over 5 years now a couple times at the Long Beach studio and a few tattoo tours he's done in the Pacific Northwest. His art is like nothing else that's out there right now. Always ahead of the game and creating a community on the love of Filipino tribal, art, and tattoos. ok here we go, I'm from Colorado wanted a tatt from California went online thinking LA is the way to go for a awesome tatt, well after searching online I found DREAM JUNGLE in Long Beach. Based on other reviews, I'm glad others liked their tats from here, bc I didn't! I had a leg piece I wanted done by Aleks (since I keep hearing he's so great)...I was really disappointed!I was there all day (which I didn't mind), but it was bc Aleks took about 7 (20 min) breaks and an 1hr+ lunch....it was a forever long day AND he still didnt finish it! He said he was exhausted (after taking all those breaks) and he didnt even finish! The shading was bad! It's un-even and the design that was supposed to "flow" around my calf looks so mis-matched! When I called and emailed for a touch up and to finish...he never responded! In my opinion, Aleks is not as good as he's hyped up to be...just pinoys showing love to a fellow pinoy....which is cool, but not! Aleks is NO GOOD @ freehand design...so make him draw it out for you b4 he does it! I basically gave him free reign on the design (just wanted to show love to my pinoy roots & trusted him) and it's a mess! I asked him if liked doing tats and he said he was more into doing speaker engagements and such.Gus did 3 tattoos while I was there and they all looked GREAT! If you're looking for the best one in this shop...it's Gus hands down! But my advice, stay away from this shop and head out to a real tribal tattoo artists...you may have to spend more money and time, but it's a forever investment! These guys (sacredcentertatoo.com Dennis, Clay & Mike!) cleaned up my tat the best they could just to make it look presentable and I got another huge back piece done by them...they are the BEST!!!! They do it all: Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Filipino, Guamanian....ALL LEGIT and pays true love to your roots!Dream Jungle Tattoo is NO GOOD for tribal tats! Compare Alek's work on his gallery to Sacred Center's gallery...right away you'll KNOW & SEE the difference in quality! Had Amber put in 4 piercings, an industrial on my left ear, an eyebrow loop, and both ear lobes. I'm a dude and her recommendations came out great! Good clean service and everything you'd expect from a tatoo-piercing shop. Amber is professional, chill, layed back artist. Had a great time with her and I'm sure the feeling was mutual! The place had a great feel to it as well with Bob Marley in the back ground chilling me out. Either way, I rock these piercings like I knew I would. I was on the no stress express.
