I very rarely write reviews but I've now had 3 terrible experiences with the jerk that does the piercings. He is so rude! I got my nose pierced whenever he had just started working there and because he cut it so short, it fell out after a few days. I had to go back and get it re-peirced which he charged me for again and blamed it on me that I must be snagging it on something. The same thing happened again a few days later and bye bye nose ring. I decided to wait about 8 months and go to Zebras in Berkeley, and they did an amazing job. I never had any problems and my nose healed up great. I recently went to Inkestry to purchase a couple new nose rings and got the 3rd degree while being spoken to like a 2 year old child. It was the same jerk that had cost me a ton of money before. I just wanted to look at the jewelry and he proceeded to drill me with questions and insults for going to Zebras. When I finally decided to walk away from him and look at the jewelry myself, he basically said he had nothing in stock. I should've known better not to go back but wanted to give them another shot. This place sux. Got my nose pierced and I was not advised that it closes up after 3 hrs. Total waste of my money. Not coming back. Tried calling owner/manager several time they kept saying he was busy & couldn't to the phone. Manager needs to hire people who are thorough in communicating with their customers. When I got my first couple tattoos done here, they were great. My artist was Kevin Castillo. But, the more work I got done, the more I noticed inconsistencies in my tattoos. The line work is wobbly, there's blowouts, and a lot of ink wasn't saturated enough so now I have a lot of empty skin showing through. And for the price, ($150 an hour), this is unacceptable. I've gotten multiple touch ups but the ink still isn't completely saturated. The receptionist is always on her phone and one time she forgot to give me my ID back because she was so busy texting people or playing games. Overall, I would not recommend going to this studio, and I highly recommend not getting tattooed by Kevin. Read Less

If I could give no stars I would. I came here over a year ago to get a cartilage piercing and Shauna did a wonderful job and I couldn't have been happier. I decided I wanted a second cartilage piercing however I was unaware that she had left. When I got there the new piercer was not friendly and made me book a follow up, I didn't mind booking it but I didn't have one before so I felt it was unnecessary. But within a week my piercing was already having lots of issues, it constantly bled and was swollen. I went back for my appointment and he ended up having to swap the earring for one with a longer piece because of how swollen my ear was. He told me I had to come back again the next week. I ended up going back 4 more times each time with him charging me $13.00!! After 4 months of it not getting any better, being swollen, constant bleeding and tender to the touch I had to go to the doctors where they had to cut it out because of how poorly it was pierced. I do not recommend this place for a piercing at all and I am furious with all the money I spent just to have the earring removed. Read Less

If I could give no stars I would. The one star I guess will go to the receptionist who was very nice. I don't think I've ever have had a good experience here. But here's the latest experience that made me finally leave a review. My husband and I walked into inkestry on a weekend end of June beginning of July. We both wanted to get tattoos nothing too crazy and nothing big. The receptionist politely explained that everyone was busy for the day but we were more than welcome to look at books to see what kind of styles everyone tattoos in. Great no problem at all and completely understandable we were walk-in after all. After we were done looking the receptionist came up to us and asked if we would like to write down what we wanted to get done, our phone numbers, and names. She assured us someone would call or text us by the end of day to set something up. We never heard from someone by the end of day, end of the week, or end of the month. Now here we are almost 3 months later and we NEVER heard from anyone. All I wanted was coordinates with some redwood trees in black and white. I'm not sure if because both of the tattoos we wanted to get were small or simple and that's why we never heard back or what but seriously that's just terrible business. My husband and I both have plenty of tattoos and plan on getting more in our life but I can tell you that I'll never come here again or should I say attempt to come here again. My other bad experience had to do with their piercer years ago. I called to come in to have my tragus earrings replaced because I couldn't get them out on my own and needed them changed out for a different style for school at the time. I called ahead to make sure they would be there and they said they would be. 20 min later I arrive their not there. They tried calling this person numerous times and texting them. I waited for over an hour and decided to cut my losses. I ended up driving to 12 monkeys where the piercer waited for me to get there to change them out for me before they left for the day. Needless to say I've never had a good experience here and don't plan on attempting to try anymore. It's just not worth it and completely unprofessional. I've gone here for my last three piercings (nostril, septum and doubles) and had a wonderful experience with Shauna. Shauna was amazing and friendly, so it deeply saddened me to learn that she left especially because the person who they replaced her with is horrible. I mean he's probably a good piecer but his attitude ruins it. I was planning on getting pierced but after talking to the guy I had to leave. He just brings a bad vibe to the place and I probably won't return to what I considered my go to place. :/  and the whole thing about him having to pierce with a hoop that has to be changed by him or another piercer is kinda ridiculous ? I don't understand why he can't just do a normal stud like a lot of other piercers do. But anyways tragic to see a place that I liked so much hire someone that has horrible customer service. I feel mixed about my latest piercing with Danny. TLDR: He did a great job on the piercing itself, but the customer service aspect was really lacking. If customer service is very important to you, I'd say to go somewhere else. Danny did a very professional job. Everything was clean and sanitary. He worked quickly and was great at distracting me and helping me breathe through the piercing process so I didn't get too scared. There were a few things that struck me as odd on the customer service end: my friend wasn't allowed to sit on the extra seat in the room while I got my piercing, I was told a lot of precautions about activities I should avoid after I got the piercing, not before. He didn't explain the price of my follow up appointment so I assumed it would be fee. It wasn't, so if you want to know ahead of time you need to ask. And if you show up early to your appointment you might end up watching him playing video games until your precise appointment time (this wouldn't be such a big deal if Inkestry's waiting chair wasn't so uncomfortable). And there are some things about the shop I don't love, mostly that they don't always pick up their office phone and their mailbox is always full so you can't leave a message. All these things were really minor, small details I didn't love, but what made me decide I won't be going back is what happened when I had a problem with my piercing. While I slept, my piercing had been pushed forward and skin had covered the back of my piercing. I was leaving the country the next day so I called to see if I could book a last minute appointment with Danny. He didn't have room, and wasn't comfortable giving me advice over the phone, which is fine. But I was pretty scared, so I just wanted someone to take 5 minutes to tell me what was wrong and give me some advice. I didn't want to wait 10 days and spend my whole vacation with my earring in my ear. So I asked Danny who he would suggest I go to in the Bay Area to get it looked at since he couldn't take me, he said no one. He told me no one but him was licensed in quite a large area and that there was no one in the Bay he trusted to look at it. That struck me as really strange. So I walked in to another shop, they gave me instructions on how I could take of this at home, I followed their instructions and my piercing looks great! Read Less

I never write reviews, but felt compelled to after my visit to Inkestry yesterday. I was just in the area for a few days and decided rather spur of the moment to get a new tattoo. I visited Inkestry based on the positive reviews and wasn't disappointed. As a walk in, I wasn't even sure if I'd be able to get an appointment that day, but I was introduced to Joel, who was able to take me right away. First, he gave me a tour, and I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness of the shop. Then, he spent time making sure my design and the placement were perfect. My tattoo is very small, so it didn't take much time, but I really appreciated that he took the same care that I can only imagine he would for a larger/more intricate tattoo. Every time I've walked into Inkestry I've been immediately greeted by the really nice lady (I didn't catch her name but she's great) in the front. I was wanting to get some words in cursive going down the side of my forearm. So I made sure to look in each artists book in order to find the artist with the best hand writing and that's where I found KEVIN. He got back to me promptly (same day) to set up a consultation appointment. From there on out he really listened to what I wanted and his creative input made my tattoo beautiful. I absolutely love it! In addition to him being a great tattoo artist, he's a super cool guy. Also, this is the first tattoo shop that I've ever been to that has t.v.'s in each room. Kevin has a great selection of movies to put on while being tatted. Which was such a good distraction! I will definitely be back for more tattoos from Kevin. I would recommend him to anyone. Its taken me awhile to gather my thoughts on this issue. I went there in September to get my Chakras done down my back. Going into it everything seemed fine and to be going really well. I showed up to my appointment 10 minutes early to be waiting for 40 minutes because my tattoo artist was late. From there he made me wait 2 more hours before we even got a stencil on and began tattooing. After the 2 hours I was very impatient and just wanted to start. I do take some blame for not double checking but after two hours I was just ready to start the process. He messed up the order of the charkas and when I confronted him he was nice at first and offered to fix it then when it came to scheduling he ignored my texts. I texted Joseph twice every month till January and still never got a response. This is such an unprofessional way of dealing with a mistake you took part of that is forever on someones body and ruining a very meaningful tattoo. Overall such a bad experience here. Read Less

I walked in for my first tattoo.  Had a picture for them to use.  Place is clean, was greeted by a young gal and in no time I was connected with Kevin.  He gave me some advice on the tattoo I wanted to memorialize my mother.  He did a stencil, tested it and before I knew it I had a quality tattoo!  It was very precise according to the picture I brought in.  It was easy, and the quality is great.  Kevin says he does free touch ups so I can come in again if needed.  I was very impressed with this place - cleanliness and quality of work.  Highly recommend it! Rook and tragus piercing by Shayna. She was very thorough and explained everything. Able to keep me calm and aware of what was happening during the entire process. The only drawback that she did not explain until after I was pierced, a drawback of the tragus piercing itself, which is that I cannot wear regular ear buds. This is my favorite tattoo parlor. Tried a couple different ones, nobody has been able to match Inkestry. I've been coming here for years and have several beautiful pieces by Glory, by far the most talented tattoo artist I've ever met. The location itself has plenty of parking & is easy to find. There is a nice selection of body jewelry & Inkestry-branded merchandise in the front, and a very friendly receptionist to help with whatever you may need. There are several tattoo artists as well as a piercer, all are great at what they do & are easy to work with. Prices are absolutely fair & reasonable. Whether you have body modifications or not, the staff here are more than happy to provide you with professional, safe aftercare instructions. Definitely the best place to go for quality work! I had my appointment with Joseph. I had a tattoo done that I originally wanted to resemble a silver cross pendant, thus, lightly around the edges, and either ice blue or a gray shading so it looked like a silver cross necklace. It was SHARP and rough around the edges with lightly black shading inside the cross. I actually asked for it to be softer and rounded, frankly it looked like it was intending to look like wood, according to one of my friends. Nevertheless, I got back with Joseph via text and simply asked for a light blue fill in - and I never assumed that would be free. Weeks and weeks went by with one quick text reply, saying I need to wait 3 weeks for healing. No prob of course! 3 weeks came and I again tried and tried to get a reply from Joseph to no avail. I tracked down the owner on FB and he was able to light a fire under Joseph to reply to me. However, in one night he sent me about 7+ very curt texts as he went along. He said he didn't appreciate me "threatening" him with a comment regarding this experience on Yelp. A "THREAT!" What??? Service there with Joseph has been HECK!!  Too bad. Read Less

Called about 2 days ago to schedule my 2nd tattoo, I get to talked to Jab and i already felt he is a professional, the way he talks, the way he make me feel already welcome in the shop. Jab did my tattoo and i am really grateful i met him. Overall, i did not see anything wrong with the shop, everyone is very kind, respectful, and very professional. Each artist has their own room for the works, i am proud to say, it is very well-orientated. The owner Mo, he's very nice and respectful of our own decisions on our tattoo's design, he will suggest a better style for it and i guarantee you, YOU WILL LIKE IT! I came here for several piercings (helix and two lobe piercings), and Shayna was awesome. She is very calm and friendly and makes you feel at ease. She was patient while I was making up my mind of where exactly to put the helix piercing. And when I came back a week later because I was worried it had gotten infected at work (I work with kids), she took me in with no problem and looked them over. My first-time piercing was as great as it could be. Shayna was awesome. A week or two prior to my appointment, I scheduled a consultation, at which she answered my many questions. During my piercing appointment, she gave me a heads up regarding what to expect. I liked being walked through the process of the procedure, as well. There weren't any surprises, but she let me know that we could pause if I needed to. As she said, once I felt the pinch of the piercing, it would be o...ver. True! The studio has a very relaxing, spa-like atmosphere in a gorgeous building with lots of available parking. Sin is so lovely to work with and was absolutely the best choice for the piercing I wanted. Very thorough, quick, and pleasant. Pricing is standard. He made what otherwise could have been an anxiety ridden experience for me into a fun one. Justin was a terrible tattoo artist. He messed up the design and the tattoo looked awful. He did a tattoo for a friend of mine and he recorded her screaming in pain and posted it to social media. Very unprofessional. Definitely never coming back to inkestry ever again. Read Less
