He took it and told me he's gonna call me whenever he finished his sketch.He didn't call me next day that he supposed to email/text me his work. I called he said was too busy he would finish it definitely by even 11 pm and send it to me...All night I was waiting nothing. I called on morning after 4 days and asked him again, another excuse and that was the end. I went there from work 45 min drive to just pickup my sketches that I left it to him... And he noticed from my face that i'm upset and tired and he just gave me my paper with very cold face with NO APOLOGY.i don't know how they got these 4 stars on yelp they way do business..they don't respect people's time.I don't recommend this shop for tattoo. My friend had an appointment at 12:30pm for Sunny to get a tattoo but by 2:30pm, she JUST started tracing the outline of the tattoo. It took her two hours because she decided to take walk ins for piercings DURING my friend's appointment time. My friend told me the tattoo session was going to take 3-3.5 hours but we already waited 2 hours. My friend and I told her to talk to Sunny and asked how much longer it would be and was told that she was the only piercer there so she had to take them in. However, she shouldn't have. My friend was the one who had an appointment. Sunny could have told the walk ins to come back in later because she has a tattoo appointment. When my friend talked to Sunny to reschedule because she had to be at work at 5pm, Sunny let out a huge sigh and her coworker asked what was wrong. She replied and right in front of my friend's face, "I am frustrated when clients tell me they have somewhere to be." I understand that my friend should have cleared her schedule but Sunny barely started tracing the outline at 2:30pm when she could have been done an hour ago if she hadn't taken the walk ins and probably would have been done tattooing her before 5pm. She was just so rude and unprofessional towards my friend, especially when she was trying to be nice and calm about the whole situation. Eventually, I just told my friend to cancel the appointment with her because Sunny just ruined the experience. I've really thought long and hard about leaving this review but as my experience with My Tattoo is still bothering me weeks after going in, I have decided to post here. First off, I did not get a tattoo with My Tattoo and that is 100% down to my experiences with them leading up to getting it. I started wanting a tattoo years ago and finally, with my husbands encouragement, decided to go ahead and to go in and meet with an artist at My Tattoo because I really liked his art and aesthetic. It took several emails to get a response from this artist but finally I scheduled an appointment to come in. The artist even confirmed the date and time, so I took off from work early and headed over full of nerves but very excited. When I walked in there were a couple of other people in the shop, a guy sitting at the counter and a guy on the couches and the male artist. I walked in for my first tattoo as a solo female and was instantly off-put by the lack of welcome into the shop and then by the artist's reaction. He had clearly forgot about our appointment and then apologized to the other person in the shop, who was clearly his friend, about me coming in and him having to wait to hang out now. I was embarrassed and totally thrown when the artist then started questioning me in front of these total strangers about what i was thinking. It was bad enough that he had no idea what I wanted despite me having emailed him loads of details and images that inspired me, but then I felt like he couldn't even bother to sit down with me one on one separate from his friends who were just hanging around. We went through what I wanted and some of the images I had in mind, and then I thought he would start sketching some ideas for me but I was notified that he didn't do any tattoo art until tattoo day because "it was a waste of his time" to do it earlier. Apparently other customers were "really annoying" in the past and had him "redraw his art several times" sometimes even completely changing their minds before settling on something. I was floored! I mean this was gonna be my first tattoo, I had so many ideas and I scheduled an appointment to come in and discuss those ideas, if the artists couldn't even be bothered sitting with me and drawing some ideas, what was the point of this appointment? Anyway, I left and was so embarrassed and disappointed about the experience that I have not scheduled another meeting with any other artist and Im not at all comfortable to go into another shop.As I said, I did not get a tattoo here, but I would discourage any first timers or single females from going here on their own. I chose my tattoo because I liked the style of work done by their artists. Even though I have to travel to get work done (I live in San Jose) it is well worth it. The shop is clean, the staff is cool with lots of enjoyable conversation and music while you're getting work done. The artist I went with is Andy Tran. Loved the vibe of this place. Damien is an amazing artist and I walked away happy with his work. However, I had an appointment and still waited for about an hour or so just to see him, then I was told that he didn't have my tattoo drawn up and that he does it the day of your appointment. Not gonna lie, I was frustrated- but I stuck around because I liked his style. I was then told that it will take him about an hour to draw it up, I left and came back , and still waited another 40mins just to see the final design. From my appointment time to the time I was in the chair... 3 and a half hours already past. And by the time I left the shop, I spend 8 hours of my day. My tattoo wasn't big either. This place is next to Sonic on Beach Blvd. There is plenty of lot and street parking available. I had made an appointment with Damien on Saturday at 12 and I brought a printout picture of the tattoo I wanted. He used it to sketch a cleaner one and we started the actual tattooing process around 2:30, finishing around 4:15.Since this was my first time, I had no experience except from what I read online. Damien put the stencil on my upper middle back and allowed me to check to see if the position was good. I would describe the feeling as scratchy. There were moments that were more painful, but overall manageable. I found singing and reading as helpful ways to keep my mind off the pain- and the fact that I could sing and read on my phone shows how manageable it can be. At some points, i was able to have a full conversation while being tattooed.Overall, Damien was amazing. He made sure to check if I was okay during the session and it was quick and simple! I originally visited the shop because my nephew wanted to get a tattoo and I decided to tag along. When we got there, everyone was super friendly and eager to help. I was browsing through the shop and looking at their art while my nephew was getting a quote. After seeing some of their great work in their portfolios, I decided I also wanted to get a tattoo. Glad I came here. Went in wanting a really small, thin lined tattoo and Pete made it happen. You can find cheaper places (their minimum is $100). But it's definitely worth it to come here because he took time to make it exactly what I wanted and also suggested I get the tattoo in a different spot than I originally thought. This is an overdue review for Damien. I've never really wanted a tattoo ever in my life, but when someone really close to my heart passed away... i wanted to get something in memory of her. When it comes to a permanent tattoo, I am extremely picky with the artist. I didn't like the bold look shading, instead I like the light and dark shading that gives it more effect. My sister actually found My Tattoo when she was doing her research and I fell in love with all the work that was done. We live in San Jose, so we took the chance of walking in to see if we can get an appointment. We were only in SoCal for a couple of days and were extremely excited when Andy (the owner) said he would be able to make it happen before we flew out the following day. Damien was the one that did my tattoo and I am absolutely in love with it. He was extremely careful in drawing out the design. I'm so thankful for that. I found Duy on Instagram and admired his work for a while now. I finally decided on what I wanted and got his email and he was able to squeeze me in his tight schedule. This was my first tattoo done by him and it was great! I'm very picky and he was very patient with what kind of tattoo I wanted. He was able to personalize a generic design I gave him and made it unique for me. The whole process (drawing, making sure it looks great on my skin, positioning) took about 4ish-5 hours. Needless to say he is very precise :). The shop was very clean and they have a great amount of awards up on the walls. Everybody was very friendly in the shop. Came here to get my first tattoo with Damien who came highly recommended but his customer service skills are horrible. He had us wait 5 hrs before even getting traced let alone on the chair. This was after a scheduled appointment and a prior consultation of what exactly the tattoo was going to be. I get that artist need some time to prep, but having us wait for that long all the while trying to reschedule us the entire time. That's  just plain rude and unprofessional. An entire day waisted. He took his time lining up everything and making sure everything was just right since my tattoo might have been simple it is very challenging making sure the bands are spaced correctly and perpendicular to my arm; So I didn't mind the process I'm just grateful I can trust him in making sure everything will end up just perfect. Tattoos, if I am going to trust my back to someone and get myself inked for life, the establishment and the tattoo artist in question better know what they're doing.  I am happy to say that My Tattoo is exactly such a place.  The tattoo I have them do started about close to ten years ago; I met the current manager, Andy Tran, and he has been taking care of my back ever since.  It took almost ten years [we're still at it] because I only go to Andy when I have broke through a milestone in my life; otherwise I don't feel I deserve the tattoo in question.     What makes My Tattoo unique is the fact what they offer is craftsmanship as far as tattoo goes.  Outside tattoo places you tend to see various drawings already made and drawn that's ready to be put onto a patron if the client desires it.  Here, they can do that too but the highlight for them is they will spend the necessary time to work with clients in understanding what it is the person wants and the artist will draw the design from scratch.  Therefore I recommend for those who's thinking of coming to already have planned ahead of time and have a good idea as to what it is they want.  Otherwise it will take an artist several hours to draw a design and if the client were to change their mind, the artist will have to go back to square one and the client in turn won't get their tattoo started.     This is pretty much the only tattoo shop I have seen where new apprentice artist(s) learns and undergoes the basics of tattoo drawing.  In contemporary society what makes the apprenticeship process unique is that almost no one does it anymore and yet, an apprenticeship is the ONLY way anyone will have a chance of becoming a craftsman and achieve mastery over whatever it is they choose to do.  I know this because I have dedicated almost my entire life to the pursuit of martial arts and the process is pretty much the same: a lot of sacrifices, self-doubt, sleepless nights, frustration, sorrows and countless opportunities to throw in the towel but didn't.  This is the main reason why I chose My Tattoo over other shops because I know for a shop that still practices apprenticeship, I am getting a tattoo of exemplary quality and value.      If you come to this location Andy Tran, the manager, is excellent in doing tattoos of animals, mythological beasts, Bodhisattva of Mercy etc.  For the animals and mythological beasts he does it well in the sense there's a strong spirit to them that is different than mere ferociousness [it's the eyes that are done really well].  There is sound structure and strength to them and their proportion is properly drawn in relation to the client's body.  For the Bodhisattva of Mercy, there is a sense of serenity in her countenance that is elusive to other artists.       If artisan tattoo is what you're looking for then this place is your answer.  They also have their original location in San Gabriel Valley's Alhambra.  I recommend scheduling 2 months or more in advance as most of the artists at My Tattoo are booked for good reasons. Such a good first tattoo experience! My anxiety level was at a ten for weeks before this. A group of 8 of us all came at once to get tattoos and everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. The atmosphere of this place is definitely comforting and I love the vintage decor... they have the coolest light bulb charging station in the waiting area! The music was really soothing as we waited. I had my tattoo done by Damien. I had seen his work on Instagram and here on Yelp and saw how his lettering was very detailed and perfect. The tattoo wasn't as painful as I thought it would be and it came out perfectly! And for someone who has a fear of needles this is saying something. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo. Everyone helped out and all the other artists did great tattoos on my friends as well. It was a fun and friendly atmosphere. I got my tattoos done by Duy last night and I'm more than happy with the way they turned out. He paid very close attention to detail and made sure everything was just right before he started. He listened to all my ideas and gave great suggestions to help me make up my mind. I initially only wanted one medium sized tattoo but I ended getting two smaller tattoos on each leg. My husband and I just went to My Tattoo today on our second wedding anniversary to get our wedding bands on our ring fingers. We walked in without an appointment, and Damien was very accommodating and squeezed us in to his super long and busy day. He is so friendly, calm, and really knows what he's doing. Andy made my first experience awesome. Andy is a master at his craft. Walking in to the consultation I knew I wanted it on my Calf. Andy was able to make it fit my leg without compensating parts of the design. Andy is very detailed and will not finish the job unless he and the client is completely happy with it. I for one am! If I could give Damien more than 5 stars I would. He made my idea into a reality. I specified a "delicate" looking mandala with an ankh incorporated in it and he delivered forreal. I've been a long time customer of Andy, 7 years and counting. I've been coming to him for all my tattoo needs because he truly cares about his work and craft. He puts a lot of thought into the design. If you come at him with your own ideas, he'll give his honest critique, pointing out certain things that can't work with it and make suggestions on how to improve it. And trust me, you'll want to take his word for it. I came to him with my own ideas and I'm glad he talked me out of them, because he came up with even better ideas that I would've never thought of.He just recently finished up my full Monkey King sleeve, which was actually a cover up. You wouldn't even know it's a cover up because there's no signs of the old tattoo. My sleeve has gotten a lot of looks and mirin'. My friend from Florida was so impressed with my sleeve, he decided to fly out and bang out a sleeve in four days. I met Andy through a long time client and friend of his. After the initial consultation I knew that he was the only person who could execute my tattoo the way I wanted. I supplied him a few images and on the day of, he had a complete rendering and layout already done. What he proposed was leagues better than anything I could have imagined on my own. I walked into several shops and spoke with people about tattoos besides them generally not being my style of art they seemed uninterested. I walked into My Tattoo and right away I felt comfortable and after speaking with Andy I was 100 percent sure this was the shop I wanted to get work done at. I have nothing but great things to say about My Tattoo! The artists were all friendly and they provided an easy going and comfortable environment. Damien Ornelas tattooed me and he was amazing! From start to finish he made sure that my tattoo would fall nothing short of my expectations. He was able to incorporate his ideas and fuse them with mine, and made it better than I ever expected! He constantly made sure I was comfortable and made it a priority. There was a point when the power went out in the shop, but that didn't stop them from getting it done. Andy even went home to get his wireless kit so we could continue! "No power, no problem" haha.
