My experience was not great...I don't usually write negative reviews but in this case I felt it necessary.  When getting a tattoo on your body, you should have a say in what you want.  I was flat out told NO! I'm not sure if they aren't used to new techniques and are just old school or what the deal is. The shop was dingy and had metal head music blaring. I mean LOUD!! If your into that then you may dig this place. I wanted a watercolor tattoo and was told no. So I went elsewhere and it's beautiful! Be careful out there. I just want to give big thanks to Bill. He was amazing, I came in earlier this week for a consultation and gave him a description of what I thought I wanted. Time came for the appointment and I was being beyond difficult not sure as to if that’s what I really wanted. My 97-year-old Mom passed away last month in Florida, where she lived with my next younger sister and her husband for 15 years. I was there for Mom's last days; our family then went to our hometown in western Massachusetts for Mom's burial. My sister returned to Fair Oaks with me after the funeral to spend some "sister time" to deal with Mom's estate and help each other through the grieving process.We somehow decided to get matching tattoos to commemorate Mom's wish that we siblings would remain close. A little web research led us to the Chinese symbol for Family. More web research on the best tattoo shops in the found Folsom City Ink. We called and the proprietor, Bill Henderson, answered. We explained our plan and asked for an appointment. Before Bill would make an appointment, he explained that he needed to see us in person to discuss everything first. We visited the shop the next day and met with Bill. From the second we walked into the shop, we knew that we made the right choice. The appearance, the artwork displays, the entire "vibe" just clicked with us. Then, we met Bill...and everything just fell into place. His friendly manner and professionalism put us at ease. He explained the entire process, the cost (which was extremely reasonable), and after care. We made our appointments, paid our deposits, and left knowing that we made the right choice.I need to explain that I'm a 65-year-old, uninked, conservative grandmother of a one-year-old grandson; my sister is a 63-year-old, uninked, conservative, retired high school principal, and grandmother of two. So this wasn't a run-of-the-mill experience for either of us...by any means. We arrived at out appointments, and just as our first visit, felt right at home. Bill took our Chinese symbol from our cell phone, discussed the finer details of size and placement, took us through the required paperwork, and then retreated to prepare the first tattoo...my sister. My husband accompanied us, camera in tow, to capture our experience. Bill was equally as welcoming and generous to my husband, making his photo rules clear without ever being brusque or overbearing. He advised my husband that he would call him back to his station at the start, mid-point, and end of each tattoo.My session went as smoothly as my sister's, and in what seemed like no time, we were both done and my husband was taking a side-by-side shot of our newest possessions. I cannot express enough my gratitude to Bill and his staff at Folsom City Ink. To a person, the staff, and even the customers are the nicest and friendliest people who made my sister and me feel completely welcome and at ease. Bill is awesome. I had heard about Folsom City Ink. I wanted a very specific, personal, and spiritual tattoo. I woke up one morning. Called Bill. We did a consult. I said if you can make all of this happen, I will put this on my body.  A little later that day... DONE. THEN I wanted color. Last night he made it even more beautiful.  I love Bill's work. I got my first tattoo done here a few days ago and I could not be happier!!! My artist was very honest with me about how my designs would look down the line and helped me come up with the perfect design. He was very personal and funny and he made me so comfortable! I am a US Army soldier heading to Afghanistan for my third combat tour. I wanted to commemorate my prior tours with a tattoo. Just recently relocated to California from Florida and was in search of a shop to replace my beloved tattooist there. I "interviewed" some of the top shops here in the Sacramento area and decided this one is the perfect fit! Bill and Conrad are excellent artists and extremely knowledable. I went in with my mom today to get a tattoo but we left after talking to a worker (didn't catch the name) for about 5 minutes. He was hella rude and when I asked to see his work he questioned me for even asking. We left right after that. He didn't make us feel welcomed at all. I came here Wednesday around 3pm. I was promptly greeted by Jim who helped me design the perfect tattoo. He worked with me catered to my every need. I went in on March 11, Friday. It was decent service, nothing exceptional nothing negative. I never got the name of the artist, just some guy with a beard. The tattoo process wasn't bad. I asked for a comma, and I just have no idea how the artist managed to do it backwards. I had another all black tattoo near my collarbone, and you can see how there was uneven inking done in the photos. I wasn't told how to take care of the tattoo afterwards, and they used masking tape on my skin to hold the bandages./Two months later I'm even more pissed off. One star/ Read Less

He got it right away, I sent him the two sample pictures I had as references and he got back to me with a drawing within the week. It was exactly what we had talked about. Had a great experience with this shop about a year ago. I came in in a whim and wanted a small geometric arrow on my arm. The artists said he hadn't done one before but went for it and it came out amazing. I get compliments on it far more than any other tattoo. The placement is great and the lines are nice and clean. My mom and I got our first tattoo's with him a day apart.He is kind, understanding, and with all my questions and requests ( my first tattoo!) he showed such patience.He is very talented, I am extremely pleased with my tattoo( so is my mom). I'd been wanting to do a major back piece for a long time. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, a long commitment, and I had been looking for the right place to do it for literally years. Bill at Folsom City Ink is an upfront, above board guy who will tell it to you like it is. He's an expert with years in the business, and it shows in his craft.My back piece took six sessions including the initial consultation and every time I walked out just blown away by what Bill can do. Realism with fine detail is his specialty and I'm stoked to wear his work. He worked with me on a concept, came up with an original design that took my idea and made it into something that really worked.If you're looking for a quick and dirty, just to get a cheap tatt done on the fly, Folsom City Ink is NOT what you're looking for. I dropped in and explained to Conrad what I wanted - he drew it up - inked it on - took about 4 or 5 sessions - all for a reasonable rate. He was always on time and ready to work. I didn't get ink recently but was waiting to see how my ink would look after some time (1 year). Well it looks just as great as it did the day I had it worked on. I had a tattoo done at another well known tattoo shop whom I will not name and within weeks it looked like a jail style tattoo (no offense to the artists that are "unfortunately" incarcerated). It faded so badly that I was actually embarrassed to have it show and during the summer it is virtually impossible not to have it exposed. I'm not saying it was the artists fault but it's what happened. I went to Folsom City Ink to have it retouched. The guy who worked on it ended up redoing the entire thing. He even added some stuff and he was cool as hell. I kept telling him that I wanted it to look good and he would tell me... "don't worry, it will be magical." I loved his sense of humor and how considerate he was. My tattoo is a pretty decent sized piece on top of my foot. The artist even earned himself a hug when he was done because I loved it and he rocked! Read Less
