My roommate and I got our second ear lobe piercings done here by Freddy and we had such a great experience! We walked in around 2pm on a Friday and there was no wait for a piercing. Freddy had us fill out paper work and promptly set up the piercing station. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about piercings, and he gave us all the information we needed to make sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into. During the actual piercing, he walked us through the entire process, explaining to us what would be happening. He was very, very thorough and safe and made sure our piercings would be perfect!! After a friend recommended Nate's work, I took the train out to Davis from Oakland, and it was well worth the trip. Nate was friendly and professional through the whole thing, from initial emails all the way to finished product. None of the process felt rushed at all. He listened to my ideas and then put his own spin on the design, redrawing it a few times to make sure it was perfect. He got the piece done super quickly, without sacrificing quality whatsoever, and the total cost was a pleasant surprise when compared to other shops in SF. Even hooked it up with a free shirt! I needed to get my ears re-pierced because the holes had closed up and Freddy was really helpful. He was able to get the earrings in without piercing them again which made it less painful, less expensive and I have much less healing time. Just got my first tattoo here a week ago, and if (okay, when) I get another, I'll definitely be back here. I was nervous but Sean was AMAZING! This is my absolute favorite tattoo shop. Half of my tattoos are from here and I will be coming here for my next pieces as well. Cait and Sean have done my tattoos thus far. Both are super sweet, well-educated, and are amazing artists. They both are great to converse with while tattooing, as they are both happy and interesting people :). They give you all of their attention, are understanding, and realistic. They are also fairly priced, as they work super hard to draw out the perfect tattoo for you and take their time for the placement and literal tattooing of the piece. They charge for the labor and the materials rather than an hourly, which is great because you know exactly what you are paying before you start. What a great tattoo shop. I pretty much walked in right when they opened and asked about doing a palm-sized tattoo on me and my wife later that day. Cait was really open to what we wanted, had it drawn up super quick, and we were in & out later that day. She listened to what we wanted and knocked it out of the freaking park. We talked with Chelsey and the piercer (sorry I forgot your name, man!) while Cait was setting up for us and they were awesome. Super funny and made for a great culture to hang out while getting a tattoo done. I decided to stop into this shop today while walking around downtown with my husband and our two small children, I left extremely disappointed and maybe it's all for reasons that many will take as my own faults but I needed to share my experience to prevent other people from wasting their time. So upon arrival I had my husband obviously wait outside with our kids , while I was waiting to speak with someone my son who is two years old was peeking in and pressed on the glass which my husband did remove him, almost right away but the employee told me please don't let that kid lean on the glass because then  we will need to clean it. It was just really awkward but I GET it some people don't like kids so I brushed it off, but it did make me feel instantly uncomfortable, I almost left then and I probably should have. Well anyways once they were ready to help me I asked about a tattoo I have been wanting to get for some time, I asked him about a ring tattoo I wanted and he said they don't tattoo fingers. Why I was so bummed out is because my husband has brain cancer and I sold my wedding ring a few months back to Help us get through his treatment and I really wanted to get it tattooed instead, btw I know how finger tattoos are because I already have one.. it just really sucks this is the third shop I've went to and the others would do it they were just really rude about it too. I was really hoping to finally find a shop we're the people weren't jerks. Ok so the straw that broke the camels back , I then asked about a septum piercing .. and he right away asked me if I was breastfeeding ... I SHOUlD have said no, because why is that relevant ? But i had to say  yes to see why, and he said well I can't do it then because if it gets infected it will pass to the baby.. I have NEVER heard this in my life, I have had two minor surgeries and one major one while continuing to breastfeed and not one medical professional has EVER mentioned infection passing through breast milk to my baby.. and how is it that women give birth, are ripped end to end, stitched back up and breastfeed newborn babies!? But the risk of me poking a small hole through my nose is far to dangerous to my 10 month old?? This information being told to people is degrading and another ploy to shame breastfeeding moms, it is honestly disgusting. Any piercing whether you are breastfeeding or not should be a personal choice. Clearly this place just wanted nothing to do with me and maybe it's because I have kids ? I was literally so embarrassed I couldn't wait to leave. My cousin and I came here for a spur of the moment cartilage piercing with Freddie. He has a very calm demeanor. Thorough and skilled. What the shop lacks in variety of body jewelry on display, Freddie makes up in professionalism and cleanliness. There are people who pierce, and then there are body piercing artists. Freddie is an artist. He takes his time to find just the right location and angle for each piercing. Freddy was amazing! I came in with a group of 4 total looking to getting pierced, not really sure what to expect. We arrived at 2pm on a weekend and he gave approximations of how long waiting and everything would take. Throughout the entire time there, we saw how thorough yet easy-going he was. After every person was done, he wiped everything down and was very understanding of having friends be in the room while the actual piercing was happening. *Piercing review*Got both nipples pierced by Freddie yesterday! I was a little hesitant to not be going to my usual piercer back home, because I once had a very bad experience with a rando that I impulsively went to.First and foremost, Chelsea (works at the front) was awesome and inviting the second I walked in. She chatted with me and made me feel at home while I waited for Freddie to finish up on another client and prepare his station for me. Come piercing time, Freddie was absolutely amazing! While I am pretty stacked on piercings and know the gist of things, he was extremely thorough throughout the whole piercing process as well as healing instructions. I had been thinking about a tattoo for quite a while, and visited another place that completely turned me off (filled with strange, spacey tattoo artists that looked like circus performers, who didn't seem too eager to do the cross design I had in mind). Then, I was walking by this place and decided to stop in. I'm a middle aged, super conservative housewife and I expected to feel very out of place and unwelcome but to my surprise the receptionist greeted me and was very professional and nice. She looked at the ideas I had pinned and explained what was possible/likely to turn out the way I wanted, and she answered all of my questions (even the dumb and possibly insulting ones-how clean is the place, does it hurt, etc).  Then she suggested I talk with Johnny Gold, who does designs like the ones I wanted. He was very nice, and again, shockingly normal and professional.   Although his work is typically very detailed and intricate, he never once acted like he was too busy or too talented to do something relatively simple. When I came back for my appointment, he drew several designs and I chose one that I loved.  He explained every step of the process and didn't make me feel rushed at all. I've gotten a few pieces done here and needless to say, this place is AMAZING... Chelsea who works in the front is amazing, and she'll help you find an artist best suited for the style of work you want! Not only are all the artists here talented and create sick pieces, they're genuinely friendly, and good people... let me tell you that's not always the vibes and feeling you get when you go into a tattoo parlor.It's a clean and nice place! As soon as you walk in, you have all the artist's portfolios you can look through! They have a piercer that's there most of the week. I haven't gotten anything from Him yet but my sister got a lip piercing that healed nicely and she gets her piercings changed here all the time. I got my first small piece done by Frank, and he was really patient and super kind! He also designed three pieces for my sister who goes in regularly now. Because I wanted some Japanese style done, Jonny (who btw dresses nicer than any guy I've ever seen and his work is the most detailed and you should totally check out his art) recommended me to Sean who creates the most dope Japanese pieces! Anyways he's finishing my quarter sleeve at the moment but I would recommend him to anyone looking to get some Japanese style work done. TL;DR: *piercing-related only* knowledgeable & friendly staff, thorough explanations, comfortable environment, sterile technique, autoclaved/individually packaged tools & initial jewelry, excellent work, fair prices. Got my nipples pierced here on a whim in early May. Got there as soon as they opened and was able to ask the lady at the desk a few questions before the piercer finished cleaning his area; asked the same questions to the piercer and did a sort of consultation including healing times, piercing + cleaning procedures, jewelry alignment, etc. He seems to be a quiet, shy, but professional individual. He evaluated the symmetry of my breasts and nipples to make markings where he thinks the piercing should be placed -- but of course I had the freedom to ask him for higher/lower/farther etc. He performed a "free hand" style (if i remember the correct term) for the piercings; I was confused about the lack of the clamp -- as seen in videos -- but he explained to me that free-handing was a more experienced method or something like that. I have little to no sensitivity in my nipples but the piercings did pinch quite a fair bit -- enough to make me squirm the first time. Nevertheless, each piercing took 2-3 seconds and was performed only when I was ready. Afterwards, I got to see them in the mirror and was so happy! I had to stop myself from smiling too much in public. Information given to me from the two that I spoke to was the same as what I've found (and still finding) in my research regarding piercings -- which increased my trust in their knowledge. My body readily accepts foreign structures so my piercings healed beautifully and fairly quickly with little swelling, but that was just MY experience and MY body. I went back after 2 months and 2 check-ups (optional) before the piercer gave me the "ok" to switch out my jewelry. Hope this helps! Read Less

I usually get an inch once a year to get a tattoo & if I don't get it that day, I end up not wanting one again...for another year. I came into Death or Glory back in April when I had the itch & came in spontaneously to get a tattoo that day. The lady at the front was so nice & when I showed her my idea she asked if I wanted to look at the available artist book. Unfortunately, his style -although very talented, was a style that I thought would not be suitable for this tattoo that I wanted. I asked if there was anyone available & she told me to look at Jonny's book. Instantly, I knew he was the artist I wanted. Excitedly I told her he was the artist I would like & she agreed. She told me he was booked up for the next 2 months. Although I knew I'd probably forget about the tattoo by then, I agreed. $40 was put down as a deposit & is nonrefundable. Come finals week at UC Davis, I started to get excited about the tattoo again. June 14 was finally here.Jonny reviewed what I had wanted ( & he was super nice about it because just a week ago, I had changed my plans for the tattoo. I thought he wouldn't see what I emailed him because of how busy he is). He drew up a design of what I had told him & I instantly fell in love with it. Since it was my first tattoo, I was so nervous but Jonny did his work & assured me that usually, once you get a tattoo, you'll probably get another one. I thought, if every tattoo artist is as friendly & nice as Jonny, then definitely. The whole process took less than an hour. & I wouldn't mind coming back in to get another piece done by him. Happy with my belly button piercing results! Highly recommend this location with amazing service and reasonable price. Freddie, the piercer, is such a chill guy~He explained step by step for the piercing procedure and after care.He counts down when he puts the needle through, so you know when it's about to hurt.My piercing hurt a little, but it wasn't bad as I though it would be. I came here after doing some careful research on where I want to get my first tattoo. I walked in with a ton of questions and the receptionist was very patient with me. She addressed all my questions with ease and it provided me some comfort!Everyone was really chill there! The receptionist saw my design and suggested which artist to do my tattoo. I met the artist (Nate) and we briefly introduced ourselves. I had my conch and rook pierced here by Freddie. Before deciding on what piercings to get, Freddie examined my ear and told me what piercings would work well. He explained everything very clearly and made sure the entire process was pleasant. I've had five other ear piercings done, and this was by far the best experience. The shop is also very cool! He was very thorough in his explanations of the piercing as to what he was going to do and my after care instructions. The piercing itself was very painless and was over in no time, I was very satisfied with the placement. Great place if you want to get some piercings done. I got my nipples pierced here, in October of last year and it was not too bad. Considering that I'd never had anything pierced before, it was an interesting experience. The only thing that was rotten was that clamp, but that hurts for anyone. My piercer was great and told me what to expect and almost year later, I've dealt with no infections or anything out of the ordinary. Definitely recommend this place! Read Less

She'd gotten work done here before, so I let her make the appointment for me.As a New Yorker, I, by default, expected New York prices and was shocked at how reasonably priced it was. My tattoo isn't particularly complicated or fancy, but it was exactly what I wanted. Jonny Gold did an excellent job and I'm totally happy with the work. Everyone I spoke with at Death or Glory was super friendly and the facilities were very clean.My only regret is that since Rochelle's graduated, we will likely never come back. A friend and I decided to get some tattoos together, while she was down here visiting from Alaska. We walked in hoping they would take us. The lady at the desk, her name was Chelsea I believe, was super nice and told us they did take walk-ins if an artist was available. She proceeded to call the artist who had stepped out momentarily and we were able to discuss our ideas with him before settling in to getting them permanently on our skin. I really wanted to agree with everyone about their piercing experience, but I just can't! The dude was friendly, but too repetitive (I already have a lot of piercings, refresher is fine, but repeating yourself more than 2 times is too much). However, I've had a great piercing/healing experience getting my ears pierced with a hoop for my cartilage, so I generally like to stick with what I'm most comfortable with. This is for my cartilage on my left ear - so, the needle went through, everything is going great, but the piercer struggled to get the hoop on and actually slipped while using a tool to get the hoop closed - that hurt A LOT!!! My ears bruised up pretty bad and the bruising didn't go away within a month and a half. Swelling was very bad for half a year and I ended up taking it out - it was weird because I have triple cartilage on my right and it all healed just fine. Anyway, took it out, swelling went down. Never going to return for such a terrible experience. I am currently getting my piercing at another shop nearby in Davis, which I've had absolutely no problem with! I honestly hate being afraid to get more piercings now after that experience... Read Less

Professional, takes cleanliness seriously, the nicest front desk girl, great artists with different enough styles so theres something for everything.I got my first tattoo here with my sister and I got a small  rose on my wrist and my sister got script on her ribs which I could tell was really painful for her first one. We both had Jonny do our tattoos and he was very easy going and has a good bedside manner so that you feel relaxed. He is great at crisp lines, my sister's script turned out so beautiful. My tattoo also healed very, very nicely. I got my second tattoo while on vacation and was not able to get it done here, but I have a feeling if I want a third or fourth I will be back here.
