Lost my ball of my nipple piercing so I came to blackbird after a TERRIBLE experience at a different tattoo shop in La Habra where they sold me bars way too long for me that were uncomfortable in my bra. Jose was SO nice and so patient in helping me find exactly the right nipple bar for me, especially since I was looking for something that fit a little tighter than I originally had. He was so professional and quick- made sure I didn't feel any pain at all and reassured me that if I felt I needed a different size he didn't mind switching them out again. My sister called and asked for requirements to get a helix piercing they said all she needed was our last name in the ID to match obviously I’m older than her and her legal guardian and when we got there he said he would need court papers to prove I was her guardian never have I ever had to show court papers other than for school to do this! I went in last week to get a belly piercing, the shop was very clean surprisingly quiet and chill. I had Jose pierce my belly, he was super calm throughout the process; he did the job really quick. I wished he went through how to care for the piercing more because It felt like he rushed to finish and get me out like he did with the person who got a piercing before me. I might've just missed everything he said because I was feeling light-headed but my friend was next to me and he didn't really recall much either. I also wished they had different size piercings because I know of a few other places that offer that option but this shop however only uses a 16 gauge needle and has one size for all. Woke up and decided I wanted to get a rose tattoo underneath my collarbone so I looked on Yelp for their best tattoo shops near me. Blackbird popped up and I looked through their pictures and all their work by the different artists were super good. I gave them a call and asked if they would have time for a walk-in. They told me a high chance maybe and would let me know by six. And I was lucky enough to be tatted the same day I called by the tattoo artist I actually wanted to get tatted by:Juan. I sent them what I wanted over text which was a single needle rose tattoo with the petals and leaves kind of shaded in. Walked in and they already had my tattoo materials prepared. I was lucky enough to be tattooed by Juan because that's who I originally wanted to be tattooed by. Juan made the tattooing process very quick and easy, checking up on me every five minutes or so to see if I was doing okay. Blackbird also has a very nice tattoo shop, interior is very clean and spaced out, almost like a studio. They also don't charge by hour unless your tattoo is really big, I got charged by the piece and the style of tattoo I wanted. I came here with my sister's-in-law for our first tattoos. Based on our initial experience, I would have loved to give this place and Big Mike 4.5 or 5 stars. We had a great experience and all love our tattoos. I had wanted to get my rib done as well, but we ran out of time. I left my information so that we could schedule the next appointment. I never received a call back. A few days later, my husband and I went into the shop (we don't live in the area, so it was a bit of an effort to go) we were told that Big Mike was out on his break and would be back shortly. We left our names and number with another artist at the shop, but never heard back. We tried calling and leaving messages a few more times, but never once got any help from the person on the phone or received a call back. I went to see Juan last week for my consult, gave two images that I liked different aspects of and gave a discription of what I wanted. Asked if they were accepting walk ins yesterday and they asked me a view questions regarding what the tattoo was, where, and how big. When I walked in, I was greeted by Paul. I showed him the text messages and Paul had everything ready, I just filled the waiver and was on my way to my first tattoo. He placed the ink before tattoo was put on but it was a little crooked so he positioned it to be more straight. The tattoo took less then 20 minutes. He's wonderful, funny, soft-spoken, and above all else a great artist.The shop is clean and all the guys are good at listening to what clients want and work with them to bring their tattoo ideas to conception. I've only gotten tattooed by Big Mike but have been around lots of tattoo shops and am very impressed by Blackbird. I actually came here about 2 years ago and totally forgot to write a review.  My friend and I came in on a random Saturday just looking for prices for our tattoo ideas. Paul came and helped us and he was very friendly and helpful. We weren't expecting to get tattooed that day since usually you need appointments but they just so happened to have a no-show appointment so we decided to take it.I showed Paul an idea of what I wanted and he sketched out a similar lotus flower with the same details. He was actually very nice and helpful and I did not feel intimidated like I usually do in other tattoo shops.  Paul did a great job at resizing the tattoo and taking his time on showing different placements on my back. He was very patient and kind.Paul did a really great job and I think the price they charged me was fair for the size and detail piece I got. While getting the tattoo I felt comfortable. I didn't really talk much cause I was nervous with moving too much. We talked a bit about hip hop and music which was cool.My friend was helped by Brandon and he was just as helpful and talented. Sadly, I forgot my artist's name, but because of; the clean, professional space, the patient artist, and the fact that it was late at night, an experience I was scared of was made much more enjoyable. May I add that it was reasonably priced, too. My tattoo is a 3" inch by 3" inch black mountain doodle; it took about 20 minutes, and it came out to only $75. I was expecting it to be much more.
